    A Message from Mr. Davie

    Hello everyone.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your hard work and support. We have had awonderful opening to the 2008-2009 school year, andlook forward to the many things our students willaccomplish in the coming weeks.

We have implemented some new things this year thatwe hope will have a positive impact on the overallacademic and social life of our students. In the past, wehave had four core classes and two exploratory classes. The four core classes consisted of Language Arts, Math,Science, and Social Studies. We have adjusted ourmaster schedule to include five core classes this year.We still have Math, Science, and Social Studies, buthave split our Language Arts Class into two classes, which now are listed as English and Reading. We stillhave two exploratory classes as before. With this newschedule, our students have seven class periods eachday of about fifty minutes each.

A second change we are implementing deals with our

lunch periods. In years before, students in any givengrade level all ate lunch together during the same lunchshift. This caused our cafeteria to be very crowded, andmade it difficult to move through the lines in thecafeteria. We have split the lunch period at each gradelevel into two sections. Half the students in each gradelevel are in the cafeteria at any given lunch shift. Theother half of the students are given courtyard timewhere they can interact with their peers through variousactivities. We also have a room set up for homework recovery during this time. Students who fail to turn intheir homework are required to do their homework inthe homework recovery room during courtyard time.Students lose the social time, but are given credit for thehomework when it is completed. As the year moves

forward, we plan to utilize this time to offer additionalsupport for students who need extra assistance in theiracademic classes as well.

Please take time to review your students progressreport and feel free to contact your students teacher(s)if you would like a conference. The guidance counselorat each grade level can schedule the conference if youwould like to meet with several teachers at one time.We have also set aside some time on September 25 th tohave our first Parent-Teacher Connect Day . Pleasesee our website for details regarding this time.

Again, thank you for your support. I am honored toserve as your principal.

    Phillip Davie

Saving Box Tops andCampbells Soup Labels

    Makes Cents

If you saw some loose change on the ground,

you would not ignore it. So, why ignore BoxTops and Campbells soup labels? When youthrow out your labels and Box Tops, you arethrowing away money that could be used forBryson Middle School.

Please take the time to save your Box Topsand labels. Simply cut them out and haveyour student drop them off at the office.Make sure that you put them in a Ziploc bagor envelope with the students name andhomeroom. Those classes that collect themost labels/Box Tops are awarded withspecial treats.

Simply putevery Box Top is worth tencents. If 100 students bring in 100 Box Topseach, the school gets a check for $1,000. Letswork together to make this a banner year incollections.
