1 PURPOSE
The purpose of this instruction is to have guidelines for Lathe Machine Operation.
2 SCOPE
This procedure applies to Lathe Machine Operation.
3 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Plant Manager
Oversee the production process on lathe Machine operation.
3.2. Production Manager
Monitor the activities of Lathe Machining works.
3.3. Operator
Operator shall be responsible that the machine is in good running condition.
4. SAFETY MEASURES
4.1 Do not use the machine unless you are authorized or have been instructed in its use
and operation.
4.2 Potential Hazards includes: Debris, Entanglement and Falling objects.
4.3. Protective Equipment Required: Protective Clothing, Eye Protection, Steel capped
boots and Long hair Restrained.
5. PRE-OPERATION
5.1 Ensure good housekeeping and do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
5.2 Inspect equipment before use, for damage parts and cords.
5.3 Ensure that lathe bed is free from swarf, tooling required to be laid out for easy
reach.
5.4 Familiarize the emergency stop and feed lever functions.

6. OPERATIONAL SAFETY
6.1 Setup work piece so that it is balance in the chuck and secure.
6.3 Remove Chuck key from Chuck and hang on rock.
6.4 Ensure to use sharp tools and cutting fluids (where possible) to reduce friction and
cutting forces.
6.5 Use the correct cutting speed for tool type and material.
6.6 Use swarf hook to remove excess swarf from moving work piece.
6.7 Never leave the lathe running unattended.
7. HOUSEKEEPING
7.1 Switch off the machine and reset all guards to a fully closed position.
7.2 Place all tools used back where they belong
7.3 Leave the machine in safe, clean and tidy state.
