That would be Today and Tomorrow.” The Saint’s eyes opened wide and he exclaimed, “Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit for that answer. How about the next one?” Asked St. Peter. “How many seconds in a year? Now that one is harder,” replied Forrest, “but I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.” Astounded, St. Peter said,

Greetings fellow Sons. As I have said on many occasions, our sense of humor is one of God’s greatest gifts to us. To that end this edition’s submission is very light-hearted and is just the kind of humor that GOD himself would have had to laugh at! After all, laughter lightens the soul!

Hope this one at least makes you smile a little, or better yet...laugh out loud. Enjoy!

Forrest Gump Goes To HeavenThe day finally arrived. Forrest

Gump dies and goes to Heaven. He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself. However, the gates are closed, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper. St. Peter said, “Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you. I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast, and we have been administering an entrance examination for everyone. The test is short, but you have to pass it before you can get into Heaven.”

Forrest responds, “It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. But nobody ever told me about any exam. I sure hope that the test ain’t too hard. Life was a big enough test as it was.”

St. Peter continued, “Yes, I know, Forrest, but the test is only three questions. First: What two days of the week begin with the letter T? Second: How many seconds are there in a year? Third: What is God’s first name?”

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. He returns the next day and sees St. Peter, who waves him up, and says, “Now that you have had a

chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers.” Forrest replied, “Well, the first one -- which two days in the week begins with the letter “T”? Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow.”

The Saint’s eyes opened wide and he exclaimed, “Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit for that answer. How about the next one?” Asked St. Peter. “How many seconds in a year?

Now that one is harder,” replied Forrest, “but I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.” Astounded, St. Peter said,

...Talkin with Saint Peter Continued from front page...

“Twelve? Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven’s name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?” Forrest replied, “Shucks, there’s got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd... “

“Hold it,” interrupts St. Peter. “I see where you are going with this, and I see your point, though that was not quite what I had in mind....but I will have to give you credit for that one, too. Let us go on with the third and final question. Can you tell me God’s first name”?

“Sure,” Forrest replied, “it’s Andy.”

“Andy?” exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter.

“OK, I can understand how you came up with your answers to my first two questions, but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?”

“Shucks, that was the easiest one of all,” Forrest replied. “I learnt it from the song, ANDY WALKS WITH ME...

ANDY TALKS WITH ME...ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN.”

(Alternative ending)St. Peter asks “Can you tell me Gods first name?”

Forrest says, “Well, shore, I know God’s first name. Everybody knows it. It’s Howard.”

“Howard?!” asks Saint Peter. “What makes you think it’s Howard?!”

Forrest answers, “It’s in the prayer.”

“The prayer!?” asks Saint Peter, “Which prayer?”

“You know,...The Lord’s Prayer,” responds Forrest: “Our Father, which art in Heaven, Howard be thy name...”

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates, and said: “RUN, FORREST, RUN.”

Hello Sons! Well, this year has gone by very fast and its time for Squadron nominations and elections next month. After your elect your new officer, we need you to turn in the Squadron Officer Report Forms (SORF) and also you need to get those Consolidated Reports completed and turned in by July 5th.

Thank you to everyone who took time to attend my homecoming, it was a great time. It was nice to have national guests there as well, again thank you all!!

That same weekend, I attended and was honored to be the Mater of Ceremonies for National Commander Jeff Frain’s homecoming. It was a great night of fun, food and music. Thanks Commander Frain!

Things are picked up, we had the “Northern Run” on March 30th through April 2nd. I traveled with Detachment Vice Commander, Area A Pete Palandri. We didn’t get too lost, maybe just a little!

A couple of weekends ago, myself, Jeff Frain, Chuck Treat, Greg Mekula, Pete Palandri, Tom Lucas and his wife Wanda took a road trip to Yuma for 98th Legion Post 19 birthday. Also attending was Jim and Judy Beischel, Rod Pederson, Ron Martin and Squadron 14 Commander, Donnie Whalen from Kingman.

This was my second year of attending this event it was an awesome time. The Sons were very well represented thanks to all who went with me and we will be back next year for more of Post 19’s hospitality. Special thanks to Post and Squadron 19 for the invitation.

Camp Out 2017 is in Kingman on April 28th,29th, and 30th.

If you are planning on running for a Detachment Office you need to have your letters signed by your post and turned in to Chuck Treat before the meeting at camp out.

Wow, what a race track the Blue Caps have been running....activities all over the state, fund raising, and all...I am anticipating the Consolidated Squadron Reports [CSRs] having all time high numbers for quite a few Squadrons. Please, KEEP up the good work!

This years Camp Out will be at Hualapai Mountain Park about 8 miles south of Kingman.

Camp Out 2017 at Hualapai Mountain Park, Kingman, on April 28, 29 & 30, 2017 will have live entrainment on Saturday Night for our group dinner and all are welcome to come see the Past Detachment Commanders and friends cook, work and have fun.

Campsites for tents and RVs need to be registered with Detachment for any and all reduced rates afforded to us during Camp Out. Please help the Camp Out Chairman, Tom Lucas, attain another successful camp out on the behalf of our Detachment Commander, Mike Talty. The contact numbers on the second to last page of the Blue Cap News for all current Officers for 2017.

You may be asked on the behalf of your Squadron to perform some of the “needs” of Camp Out. The more Squadrons involved, the easier the workload for ALL Squadrons!

The Convention for 2017 is moved back to the Carefree Inn for the weekend of June 22 - 25, with the Detachment meetings on Saturday morning.

The membership cards are changing this year. The proposed changes include: e-mail, birthdate, and more information relevant to Squadrons keeping in touch with their membership. This will also allow Squadrons using MySAL.org to download their respective squadrons contact information for calling and e-mailing the membership with newsletters.

Please note the reporting dates in the membership chart that follow. SEND membership to Detachment EARLY so you can make the cut-off date. Think one week earlier that the report date...that’s when your membership should bee in the hands of Detachment HQ for timely processing.

From the Adjutant’s corner...

The last membership report received showed us at 88+% with a week or so before April 12th deadline for the 90% goal.

You’ve got this guys, you are doing a great job! Please remember the deadline for CWF donations is received by CWF by May 31st. We are currently around 78 to 80 thousand dollars so far and add Camp Out donations,

well, we can’t wait to see what that brings. CWF…what a great job!!!!

I will see you at Camp Out, soon.Thank You All!! and ‘til the next time…

Detachment Commander’s Message Continued

Hello again gentlemen,It’s hard to believe, but the 2016-2017 year is rapidly

coming to a close. We may only have a few months left in the year, but Commander Talty and I are so very proud of the job you have all done in membership. As you can see from the membership report, we have continued to exceed the membership goals set by National. And although Areas A and B continue to go back and forth for the top Area in the state, major kudos to Area C! You have caught fire and closed the gap here in the homestretch. Something tells me the final membership award will come right down to the wire.

National Commander Jeff Frain’s membership theme to “Be A Hero and Sign Up 3 American Heroes Today” continues. Recruiting 3 new Legionnaires will help our parent organization with their membership goals, and is very likely to help ours as well. Remember, we are a FAMILY organization and we should do what we can to help out the entire family.

A quick reminder that our annual Campout is coming up, about the time you receive this issue. I look forward to seeing many of you up North and sharing, in person, what I know will be more positive numbers and success stories.

As the year winds down, I want to stress to all of you the need to really get out there and push our renewals. Time is running out for us bring the delinquent members back into the fold of our organization. Try whatever you can, writing, calling, emailing. Let’s get ahead of this next target date and set some records for Arizona’s National Commander Frain and Leading Candidate Danny Smith at Campout.

Thank you all for your hard work and I look forward to seeing you all at Hualapai Park!Joe Roberts, Membership [email protected]

On the road to 105% and beyond, oh yeah!

In the last couple of months, we’ve been busy traveling in the State, and within the US. Please enjoy the photo sets later in the Blue Cap News. It looks fun and relaxing! But, alas, it was work and living out of a suit case has it’s own difficulties.

National Convention is in the Western US this year...Reno, Nevada! If you are interested in attending Jeff Frain’s Convention (as the official of record) please contact Department Headquarters for registration and hotel information.

This year’s Convention is August 17 - 24. The delegation from Arizona is staying at the Peppermill Casino Resort. More information to follow at our Detachment Convention.

That’s all for now….For God & Country,Chuck Treat, Detachment [email protected] 480•239•2844
