Dear parents, carers and children,
It has been a busy first term at Abuja Prep and we are all feeling the effects of an intense but – certainly from my point of
view – extremely positive and productive term. It is hard to believe that a term has already ended and another new year is
about to start. I hope you have enjoyed reading Blossoms and learning about all the wonderful things that happen at Abuja
Prep.
The remarkable dedication of our staff and pupils has ensured that our term has been truly awe-inspiring.
The school is characterised by the highest expectations of staff and students alike. Our children continue to amaze us with
their keen interest to learn while having fun at Abuja Prep.
The children's amazing learning experiences are a testament to our outstanding teaching and learning and shared vision.
The Proprietress along with our Senior Leadership Team of the school, strive to bring the best teaching practices to ensure
we fulfil our promise of care and quality teaching and learning.
Unfortunately, we will say farewell to a hardworking staff member at the end of this term. Miss Tosin, Year 2 Dolphin, is
moving from Abuja due to family reasons. She has been so dedicated to our school, going the extra mile week in and week
out. The newest member of the Abuja Prep family is Miss Thakuma. She has a degree in Information Technology from the
University of East London. She has good analytical thinking and a passion for reading, travelling and cooking.
Finally, I am sure that you would like to join with me in thanking all of the staff, the Proprietress, SLT and The Board of
Abuja Preparatory School for their continued tremendous hard work and commitment to the pupils of the school during
the year.
As always, Abuja Prep staff and I feel honoured to be a part of your sons /daughters’ development. I take this opportunity
to thank you for your continued support of Abuja Preparatory School, as we work together to offer the very best learning
opportunities and experiences for your child.
On behalf of everybody at Abuja Prep, we wish you, your family and the pupils a peaceful Christmas to
those who celebrate it and every blessing for the New Year. We look forward to welcoming all
our pupils returning refreshed and ready for a new school term on Tuesday 8th January 2019.
Kind regards,
Akif Naqvi
Headmaster

What a technologically advanced treat we had last Friday!
Thanks to Year 6 Jaguar’s around the world newsreel
about Guyana. Guyana, a country on
South America’s North Atlantic
coast, is defined by its dense rain
forest. Guyana, an English-speaking country,
is culturally connected to the Caribbean region, by its love
for cricket and calypso music.
A well-timed, well-planned, engaging and entertaining
assembly, with excellent use of technology, was presented
wholly by the children. This shows Abuja Prep children,
especially Year 6, are capable of making something far
more sophisticated than we were able to do as children.
So many learning areas were touched upon in this
assembly, ending with a gentle calypso dance move.
Thank you to mums, dads and other family members for
taking time out from their busy schedules to support their
children. Well done, teachers and all the future media
presenters in Year 6 Jaguar.
Gingerbread houses are a favourite
holiday pastime with families, be it
with parents, grandparents, or even
both! But these delicious, decorative
bread houses have always been a
staple of the holiday season for as long as people can
remember.

Reminder - Lollypops, Gums and Sweets It has been noticed that some children are still bringing lollipops, gums and sweets to
school. They have also been spotted sucking on a lollipop whilst coming to school. We
encourage parents and carers to discuss the perils of sugar with their child. Research
shows that sugar leads to a quick spike in blood sugar levels followed by rapid decrease,
thus making it extremely hard for children to concentrate. Sugar is also a major cause of
tooth decay and cavity.
Henceforth, if a child is found with sweets, gums or lollipop, it will be sent home or
disposed of. You can share more awareness by visiting this website:

Dr. Philip Emeagwali Occupation: Computer Scientist Born: 1954 - Nigeria Best known for: Inventor of the world’s fastest computer Nickname: Bill Gates of Africa
Like many African schoolchildren, he dropped out of school at age 14 because his father could not continue paying Emeagwali's school fees. However, his father continued teaching him at home, and everyday Emeagwali performed mental exercises such as solving 100 maths problems in one hour. His father taught him until Philip "knew more than he did”. Dr. Philip Emeagwali's resume is loaded with many other such feats, including ways of making oil fields more productive – which has resulted in the United States saving hundreds of millions of dollars each year. As one of the most famous African-American inventors of the 20th century, Dr. Emeagwali also has won the Gordon Bell Prize – the Nobel Prize for computation. His computers are currently being used to forecast the weather and to predict the likelihood and effects of future global warming.
