Star Experience in Bloor-Yorkville Contest

Over this hot summer, some retailers, in the Bloor-Yorkville community, have beentrying to invite customersinto their shops, by opening their doors, andallowing chilled air to spill out onto city sidewalks, at steep energy, environmental

and public relations costs.

While air-conditioning is operating, in yourbuilding, please keep your doors closed toconserve energy, curb air pollution and reduce the demand on our over-stressedpower grids. Leaving the door open wastes

20%-25% of the air-conditioning being produced. This unfriendly practice not onlyinflates electricity bills, but it puts our neighborhoods at an increased risk ofblackouts. Many consumers are cognizantof this wasted electricity and are makingcomplaints.

It is estimated that leaving a 9’ X 4’ dooropen for 10 hours a day, for 4 months, would waste 30,000 kWh of electricity andmore than $3,000.

Do your part, help get the word out that “aclosed door is a good thing”. Help makeBloor-Yorkville more environmentallyfriendly, please visit www.weconserve.ca

Doors Closed - Please Come In!

The Bloor-Yorkville area is known forits beauty, cleanliness and as an all-round wonderful place to live and shop.In order to keep our area inviting, please assist us in the following areas:

DON’T - Lock your bike on a tree!

Our trees are young and fragile! Pleaselock your bikes to one of our 90designated bike rings.

DON’T - Use the Gator bags, at treebases, to extinguish your cigarette

The bags are designed to hold water forthe trees and cigarettes burn holes in thebags, making them useless. Please useashtrays within designated smoking areas. The City of Toronto also provides a placeto extinguish your cigarette on theirgarbage bins (as pictured below). Pleaseuse these.

DON’T - Feed the birds!

Providing food for birds regularly, at a specific area, increases the population ofbirds in that area, over time. Please do notfeed the pigeons, as they foul the sidewalks, making it difficult to keep upwith the cleanliness, and they destroy theflower gardens.

DON’T - Litter in our flowerbeds(or anywhere!)

DON’T - Abandon your bicycle!

Please remove your bicycle from bikerings! We have many cyclists who wouldlike to use the rings! Also please remember to take your bicycle lock!

DON’T - Park your scooter or e-bikeon the sidewalk!

Please use a parking space on the road,or a less pedestrianized area, instead.

DON’T - Use A-Frames Signs!

We have received numerous complaintsand reports from customers who have collided or tripped over A-frames signs, orhad them blown onto their cars etc. Pleaseuse a permanent fixture instead.

DON’T - Vend without a permit!

Illegal vending on City boulevards will bereported and the vendor could be fined.

DON’T - Sit on the flowerbeds!
