Roongo

Bloomsburg did not have an official mascot for its sports teams until 1933, when the student body voted for the husky. Art professor and part-time animal trainer George J. Keller suggested the husky, because the breed exhibited traits essential to successful college athletic teams. (Huskies are known to be noble faithful and persistent in adverse conditions.) The first husky was owned by Keller and was one of the huskies that had gone to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd. The first mascot was named Roongo after the school colors of maroon and gold.
