    *Activities- Things to Do!

    Brace Map- Make a Brace Map to list the characters of the story.

    Share with a friend.

    Character Cards- Make a set of character cards. Take a note card, and put then name

    of the character from the story on one side of the card. On the other side of the card

    write a sentence about the character. Share with a friend.

    Circle Map- Make a Circle Map listing facts that you have learned in the story.

    Share with a friend.

    Spelling Bank- Make a list of words you do not know. Look them up in the dictionary and

    write the pronunciation. Share with a friend.

    Sentence Scramble-Take the sentences from the story and put them in order

    from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. Read and discuss the

    sentences as a group.

    Bubble Map- Make a bubble map to describe a character in the story.Draw a picture of the character and share with a friend.

    Flow Map- Make a flow map and show the main ideas of the story. Use the words:

    First, Next, Then, Last in your flow map. Share with a friend.

    Art Show- Draw a picture of the main idea of the story. You can use characters from

    the story, facts from the story or other information from the story. Be creative, but

    remember to keep the main idea as the focus of your art piece. Share your art with a

    friend and let them guess the main idea of the story.

    My Story- Write a short story about what the story you read reminds you of?

    Read your story to a friend.

    New Ending- Write a short ending to the story. What do you think will happen next in

    the story? Read your new ending to a friend.

    Story Elements - Make a tree map of the story elements; setting, characters, problems,

    solutions, and genre.

    Character Changes - Draw a picture or write a sentence to show how the characterchanged from the beginning to the end of the story.

    Book Comparison - Make a double bubble map to compare and contrast this story with

    another story that you have read.

    Alternative Endings-Write a new ending to the story. How will this ending change

    the story?

    Super Character-Select one of the characters in the story and give this character asuper power. What power would you give this character and how would this characters

    super power change the story? Share you super character with your classmates.

    New Author-Take the characters in the story and write a NEW short story. Use the

    same characters but in a newly created story. You can place the characters in a new

    adventure, at a later or earlier time period, or in any type of new situation. Be creative

    as you generate, design, and formulate a new short story.

    Judgment Call-Make a bridge map telling which character is good/bad, happy/sad,

    big/little, and mean/nice.

    Rating Card-Create a rating card for this story. On the card write a short retell of the

    story, and place the rating on the card. You can give the story a rating based on a 1-10scale, 10 being the highest or any type of scale you want to create. On the back, tell why

    you gave the story that rating.

    Multi-flow Map- Write an event from the story. Tell what the causes were and the

    effect of them on the story.
