Writing a letter to a Science magazine. Task: Make 2 sets of flashcards and play Snap remembering to read the words aloud as you turn each one over. Task: Spraying shaving cream on the table Use salt Use sand and letting your child trace the words in it Task: Make up silly sentences with your words. Say them aloud and write them down Task: Complete the ‘or’ word activity. Challenge: How many more words can you write that have ‘or’ in them? Task: Complete the ‘ar’ and ‘or’ word activity. Task: Using the suggested ‘or’ words in the resource section. List your ‘or” words. Write ‘or’ word sentences. Make an ‘or’ word Word Search. Task: Using ‘Is it a Dragon?’ sheet. Phonics: Robot speak the word: c/l/aw/s. Then blend the phonemes to make the word. Write the word in phoneme frame in phonics box and then twice underneath. Robot speak the word: ‘t/ee/th. Blend to make the word. Write ‘teeth’ in the phoneme frame in the phonics box, cover it and write the word twice underneath. You are going to write a letter to a Science Journal. You have been on a holiday to Indonesia and have seen an animal you think could be a real dragon. Look at the picture of the Komodo dragon. In the letter you will need to explain to the scientist why you think it was a dragon. You will need to tell them some of the features that made the animal look like a dragon from a story book. Think of two sentences. The first sentence will say whether you thought the animal was scary or not and start: ‘I saw a…’ The second sentence will describe what dragon-like features it had and start: ‘It had…’ Most letters that are sent to someone we do not know start ‘Dear Sir or Madam.’ This is already on the letter for you. The next sentence will be: I saw a scary animal.’ Write scary and animal in the Have a go box. Now you are going to write why you thought it could be a dragon: It had sharp claws and big teeth. Write sharp in your ‘Have a go’ box. You are writing the letter to a scientist because you are not sure whether it was a real dragon so you are going to ask him what he thinks. Start your question: Was it…? Read your letter with expression. Do you think the Komodo Dragon looks like a real dragon? In what ways is it like a dragon?
