Roamin’ with Rodney… Good Morning and Welcome! It is great to be back this morning and worship with our church family at Leoma. If you are looking for a church home, you have found a great family of God’s people. As always, we are tired physically but very filled spiritually from our time at Polishing the Pulpit last week. My family and I have been blessed since moving to Leoma to attend this great event each year. I am very thankful for the desire our elders have for the preachers to keep learning and growing spiritually. PTP is an annual boost and blessing to my sermon preparation but more importantly to my spiritual livelihood. I pray the blessings I receive from this event will transpire to the congregation here and you will be able receive a partial blessing from PTP. My family is very thankful for the elder’s support and your encouragement in our ministry here at Leoma. We keep praying for the Lord’s blessings for many years in this place and to use us as much as HE desires to help this church be what pleases HIM. When you start to spell the word “tongue,” the first letter you must know is the letter “T.” What sound does it make? What other words can you think about that starts with the same letter? All of that is important when you are learning your letter sounds and sights, just ask Paxten! If our goal is to “Tame” our tongues, we must begin where the word begins and try to understand what it looks like and how it sounds. Unfortunately, it is my fear we are “Tolerating” a lot of misuse of the tongue these days. We do it under the banner or excuse of not wanting to offend, being entertained, it’s just part of the culture, or as long as in moderation it will be ok. We subject ourselves, allow ourselves the excuses, or justify the matter to the point that right and wrong become blurred in our own minds. What can we say or not say? What should we tolerate or not tolerate? When is it ok to say, “that’s just who they are and how they talk?” Tolerating is something that I am afraid we are doing way too much of these days. It is not just the tongue, it is the computer screen, tv screen, our actions and reactions to people. We have become a society that has trouble calling people on their wrongs. We don’t want to be judgmental or we are quick to admit our failures. I suggest we get real with ourselves, work on our faults with the Lord’s help. The desire to “Tame” the tongue to be able to speak the “Truth” to all around us should be our intended goal. Then we can help others in humility to improve their tongues. One of the areas I see us as God’s children really letting our guard down is “Technology.” I am not sure if we forget that God is stilling watching and holding us accountable or if we just let our filter go when it comes to social media. I am begging you to carefully consider what you say and when you say things on social media. This is not a license to do as you please. Everything you approve and say should be honoring to God. Just because it doesn’t come out of your mouth does not mean that it doesn’t still come from your heart. And remember sometimes the best thing is just to say nothing. The “T” s of the Tongue: tolerating, technology, taming, truth. God please help us be in control of our tongue! In HIS Service, Rodney Livingston
