Advent is a season of hopeful expectation, and more than ever this

year the world needs the hope that only Christ can give.

All parishioners are welcome to join us and Advent Reflection Night:

Living in Hope on December 16th at 6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the

Church. The evening will include music, a reflection from a guest

speaker, and time with the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration.

Our speaker is Priscil la Estrada. Priscilla currently serves as

Theology teacher at Bishop England High School and holds a Masters

in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. In her time in

ministry she has also been the Director of Christian Formation at

Prince of Peace, Greenville, the Cathedral of St John the Baptist,

Charleston, and St Mary Help of Christians, Aiken. Priscilla has a great love for teaching the Catholic

Faith and is excited to share more about the nature of Hope this Advent.

IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS!

Christmas is all about Jesus Christ, His coming into the world – the beginning of the plan that the Father

promised way, way back in history. The “way, way back” until this present time is what we call Salvation

History. Yes, this is the ‘saving work of God’ intricately and delicately woven into the passing of time. “I

will send a Savior” echoes in our minds during this time of Advent as we recall the “First Coming” two

thousand or so years ago. We are so fortunate to live in post-Jesus times (historically) and, having been

assured of His “Second Coming” at the end of time, we have something to joyfully await in preparation.

This is a good thought for the world today amidst our tendency to focus on material things: excuses to

surround ourselves with the things of this world and the temporary security they afford. Once again … it’s

all about Jesus, not about us.

We are indeed human. We love to get/receive our Christmas gifts all wrapped up and under the Christmas

Tree awaiting December 25, the day we observe as Christmas Day. I am like you. I await Christmas too. I

will give gifts and receive gifts. But it’s all about Jesus. It is a Blessed time!

Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus, come!

With love, Fr. Derrick

HOW CAN I WRAP MYSELF UP AS A GIFT FOR JESUS?

On Tuesday, December 15, 7.00 p.m., with the assistance of guest priests, the parish community will have

an opportunity to be ‘washed clean’ of sin, put on the new self, adorned with the sweet odor of sanctity –

ready to give ourselves as gifts to the Infant of Bethlehem.

We will follow the pandemic regulations given by our Bishop, Robert Guglielmone: the Sacrament is to be

celebrated in an open space (not in a Reconciliation Room); maintaining social distancing between priest

and penitent; and wearing facial masks.

The priests hearing confessions will be located as follows: two in the sanctuary - east and west, two others

located by the side doors on the pew-level. Approach the priest of your choice, state the time

since your last confession, mention the areas of life that have transgressed the Lord’s

way, receive absolution, return to the pews and pray a sincere Act of Contrition. There is

to be no lengthy interchange of words between the priest and penitent. It is unfortunate

that these regulations are for everyone’s safety in these difficult days. (And you know

what friends … I have difficulty hearing under normal circumstances; now add distance

and mask. I want to do what Jesus expects of his priests but my handicap is a reality!).

Come to the ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE, 7.00 p.m., Tuesday, December 15.

With love,Fr. Derrick

Él in-

sidad no debe tener límites.

nosotros. ¿Lo reconoces ahí? ¡Ven Señor no tardes tanto en llegar!
