The Ascension of the Lord
Blessed Sacrament, Milwaukee 2
Dear Parishioner,
Blessed Sacrament intends to reopen on Pentecost Weekend, May 30-31, as a “New Pentecost, beginning anew,” ac-
cording to Archbishop Listecki. This new beginning starts with each one of us. I would like you to prayerfully con-
sider what this means for each of you and our parish as we move forward.
Safety: is the most important aspect of our new beginning. Much is still unknown about the Covid-19 virus. Infor-
mation is continually evolving making our new beginning somewhat tricky. Therefore, if you are 60 or older, and you
have a compromised immune system or any respiratory concerns, please prayerfully consider staying at home. Safety
is paramount and there are too many unknowns to guarantee your safety. Remember, the virus can be airborne and
even though we are practicing social distancing, you or someone else could still be at risk.
Health: those of us who will attend Mass need to conscientiously consider a self-evaluation: Have I been quaran-
tined? Do I practice social distancing? Have I maintained a healthy and safe interaction with others? If you answered
yes to these questions, chances are, you are in a low risk status to attend Mass. Remember, we are stressing safety,
emphasizing diligence to maintain and continue practicing safe and effective distancing with others.
Webpage Masses: I want to remind you that the webpage Masses will continue after we reopen the parish. These
Masses have been a tremendous help to many of you. We will continue to provide them so if you are not ready to per-
sonally return to the parish, you will still have this option for your use. In addition, there are Heart of the Nation Mass-
es on TV, along with other TV Masses to consider as alternatives. Please use our Webpage as often as you can
(www.blessedsacramentmke.org). There will be information in the form of videos to assist you as we reopen the par-
ish, along with other pertinent information regarding the next steps we’ll be taking as a parish community.
Church: I, along with our staff, have decided to temporarily move all Masses to the St. John Paul II Center (our
school gym). This decision was based primarily on space, flexibility and distancing. The St. John Paul II Center and
adjacent School Hall are easily accessible, provide plenty of space to hold our congregation, while maintaining recom-
mended social distancing. There is an elevator available to accommodate those physically challenged. The School
Hall will be utilized as an overflow if needed. There will be a camera in the St John Paul II Center so those in the hall
can participate by closed circuit TV. Ministers/ushers will be available to direct you to the entry points. Following
Mass, instructions will be given regarding how you will safely “Exit” the building.
Order of Worship: you will find at your chair an Order of Worship. It is “YOURS” to keep. At the conclusion of
mass, take it with you as you leave the building.
No touching during the Mass: there will be no handshake of peace, hugs, etc. and no hand holding during the Our
Father but rather a simple gesture of a gentile bow towards another congregate.

Face mask: Remember, safety is key. You are highly encouraged to bring and wear a face mask. Wearing a mask
provides a barrier that can help minimize the transmission of infectious droplets from person to person. If you feel
inclined, you may wear gloves and any other protective covering which you feel will enhance your safety. Hand
sanitizer will be provided at each entrance. As you enter the building, please take the time to sanitize your hands.
Please consider bringing your own hand sanitizer.
No collection: there will be no offertory collection. Rather, there will be an offering basket. As you enter or exit the
building you may drop your offering in the basket. This will assist our ministers/ushers to exercise social distancing
and keeping each from touching any unnecessary items, such as envelopes, cash, coins, etc. There will be no
offertory gifts brought forth from the congregation during the Mass.
Communion will be distributed AFTER Mass: I will deliver the announcements, the prayer for the intercession of
Blessed Mother and conclude with the final blessing. Once the final blessing has been given, I will proceed to
distribute communion first to those requiring assistance, followed by anyone in the overflow room and finally to those
present in the St. John Paul II Center. Distribution of Holy Communion will be adjacent to the exits. You will receive
communion ONLY in the HAND not on the tongue. I must avoid contact with any saliva contaminating my fingers.
Please understand, I need to be protected too. Once you have received the Eucharist, please promptly exit the building
and do not stop to converse with other parishioners. This is for everyone’s safety. If you are taking communion to a
family member(s) please present the pix and ask me for the number of hosts, you will need.
Mass time change: I am permanently moving the Saturday 4:30 PM Mass to 4:00 PM. This is being done, in part,
to comply with existing protocols necessitating the cleaning and sanitizing of all chairs, restrooms, doors, etc. after
each respective Mass. This will ensure our cleaning crews will not be working late into Saturday night. Our Sunday
Mass schedule remains the same that being 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00, respectfully.
Confessions: at this time are being postponed until I can find an adequate space to accommodate privacy and safe
distancing. I will make an announcement at Mass when that becomes available.
This letter is being mailed to every parishioner in the parish. Should any parishioner contact you indicating they have
not received this letter, please have them call the parish office (649-4720). It is imperative our parishioners are kept
informed and made aware of these new procedures.
May God watch over each and every one of you as we begin anew in these uncertain times.
Very Rev. Mark C. Payne
