BLDC MOTOR BLDC MOTOR

Introduction: A brushless DC (BLDC) motor is a rotating

electric machine where the stator is a classic three-phase stator like that of an induction motor and the rotor has surface-mounted permanent magnets

It is an electronically controlled commutation system, instead of a mechanical commutation system (i.e. brushes)

The commutation function may be performed by various shaft position sensors . Small inexpensivemotors use Hall effect sensors. A Hall effect sensor is a semiconductor device .

BLDC Motor Construction and BLDC Motor Construction and Operating PrincipleOperating Principle

o BLDC motor has two primary parts; the rotor and the stator. Other important parts are the stator windings and the rotor magnets.

o There are two basic BLDC motor designs: inner rotor and outer rotor design.

Page 6: Bldc Motor

o In an outer rotor design, the windings are located in the core of the motor. The rotor magnets surround the stator windings and act as an insulator, thereby reducing the rate of heat dissipation from the motor. Due to the location of the stator windings, outer rotor Brushless DC motors typically operate at lower duty cycles.

o In an inner rotor design, the stator windings surround the rotor and are affixed to the motor's housing. A motor’s ability to dissipate heat directly impacts its ability to produce torque. For this reason, the overwhelming majority of BLDC motors use an inner rotor design.

BLDC motor, in which we use an electronic device for commutation. Here we’ve discussed about the parts of BLDC motor, it’s advantages, disadvantages and it’s applications. The speciality of the BLDC motor is that, it is used for aerospace applications and if any job requires a motor that will last as long as possible, we consider a BLDC motor, for reasons which will become apparent.
