Get Social with the Online Platforms
Internet Marketing is a buzzword which is banded about without much thought about the power that
it has for businesses of all sizes, including individuals, Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners. The
truth is that marketing your product, service or cause using the internet enables you to reach the
widest audience possible, and if done correctly that marketing can be highly targeted specifically to
the audience who is looking for what YOU are offering.
When starting any business, it is essential that you keep your marketing spend to a minimum, while
maximising your reach. By learning how to use the technology of the internet you are effectively
taking ultimate control of your brand, and more importantly ensuring that your ongoing marketing
costs are minimal. The most successful entrepreneurs have a good understanding of the working of
the internet. To have the ability of coming up with a marketing idea or strategy and being able to get
that idea online in a day is a skill which anyone can learn and will have massive implications on any
small business success.
Once you are able to control your online branding, having a Social Media campaign which will drive
traffic to your site or sites will further enhance your ability to convert potential clients into paying
customers. You would have noticed that I said sites, as there is no reason why you, as a business
should not have more than one website.
Today most entrepreneurial businesses will have a main site, a few landing pages which either sell a
product or service or simply collect data, and a blog...So go ahead, embrace the Internet and Social
Media if you want to lead in business in 2010 and beyond. The Team at Business For Life can help you

World Wide Women
The evidence of times changing
come from Davos, the global think
tank. In an introduction to the
Davos Global Gender Gap report
2009, Klaus Schwab argues that
“the recession means we need to
pay more attention to the talents
of women …. As consumers, voters,
employees and employers, women
will be integral to global economic
recovery.”
According to one of the female
panellist, “Women need to be able
to run their work from home –
whether they are Bangladeshi
farmers or e-entrepreneurs in Can-
ada.” And the issues affecting
women?
“Well, it's not just money – it's edu-
cation, pay and political represen-
tation and it's also the sustainabil-
ity of the planet. “
I think the BLC have already cotton
on to that1! So let’s just do it in-
stead of high fluting about it on the
round table!
It’s way past time...

ISSUE 03 /February 2010
Feature - Country Profile : Malaysia
Asian female entrepreneurs are tak-
ing the world by storm - and it's no
wonder, when countries like Malay-
sia, in South East Asia, are actively
pioneering women's empowerment
and taking steps to ensure the edu-
cation and success of the women in
its economy.
It helps to have support at the top -
former Deputy Prime Minister, Tun
Musa Hitam, has championed the
education of women and their ad-
vancement at national and interna-
tional level.
In his words, the key to growth is
knowledge, experience and em-
powerment - and don't the women
of Malaysia know it.
Due to the education they are re-
ceiving, women in rural areas are
able to contribute within their fami-
lies, their society and, importantly,
to the nation's economy as a whole,
which is enabling and empowering
them to break through the poverty
cycle.
Girls and women in the country are
overtaking men both in accepting
more places in higher education
and their academic successes, with
women making up about 70 per
cent of student demographics in
local universities.
And there is
no shortage
of training
for those
who have
finished
their stud-
ies and
gone on to start their own busi-
nesses. Malaysia has just played
host to the (WIEF) World Islamic
Economic Forum (WBN) Women
Entrepreneurs Workshop - which
provides an arena for supporting
and advancing women entrepre-
neurs across the world, especially in
Muslim countries.
It's a 2-week entrepreneurial course
designed to empower women en-
trepreneurs with the skills neces-
sary to compete in the global mar-
ketplace. Attendees learn leader-
ship skills, experience in business
management and of course have
plenty of opportunity for network-
ing with other female entrepre-
neurs.
Malaysia is just one of the countries
leading the way in conscious female
empowerment. And actually, you
just have to look on the internet to
know there are movements and
seminars and workshops happening
in almost every part of the globe.
It's incredibly powerful to know
that there are nations of women all
working towards the same goal
right now, from our different cor-
ners of the world.

INTERNATIONAL
WOMEN’S DAY
International Women’s Day was
first celebrated 99 years ago on
19 March 1911 in Germany, Aus-
tria, Denmark and other Euro-
pean countries. Since then it has
gone from strength to strength
with events being held to mark
the day all over the world and
being marked by a public holiday
in some countries. The day is an
opportunity to celebrate
women’s achievements and con-
tinued aspirations for equality in
all aspects of life all over the
globe.
This year’s theme is Women in
Action . The shape of the day is
one of innovation, interaction
and inspiration. Forget sitting
back listening to a string of speak-
ers, this is about getting involved
and getting back what you put
into the day.
The main areas of focus are self
development and exploring how
we can make a difference to oth-
ers locally, nationally and interna-
tionally via a variety of workshops
covering topical areas of interest
and driven by the participants on
the day
The day is being delivered in asso-
ciation with the Institute of Direc-
tors, Manchester Business School,
the Monastery, Oxfam, Manches-
ter City Council and the Pankhurst
Centre.
The e vent will be held at the his-
torical Gorton Monastery, Man-
chester on the 8 March 2010.

Blog To Go – Haiti A World in Turmoil?
Like everyone, I was shocked and horrified of
the extent of carnage and devastation that
occurred after the massive earthquake
which bestowed itself on Haiti last month. I
guess we’re all still reeling from the after-
shocks.
I kept asking my self , how come only 24
people died in California over two and a half
years ago, which hit them with the same
magnitude of earthquake which measured
on the Richter scale? The only answer that
came to mind was poverty. Haiti has been
wracked with massive poverty for decades
and decades due to governmental misman-
agement of resources, corruption, crime you
name it they’ve got it all.
If they had the infrastructure, strong econo-
mies and compassionate government lead-
ership, I an certain we would have seen a
different story all together.
So here is another question, why is it that
the same old patterns are being played out
over and over again in a country that, al-
though so close to wealth geographically,
seems to be painfully excludes in the distri-
bution of that wealth? Right now, Haiti is the
poorest country in the western world and in
the 21st century, we know it is a disgrace.
There can be no other solution than that of a
radically shift in the country’s paradigm of
the perception of itself. Even though this
may sound harsh, Haiti breeds poverty. The
mindset is acutely tuned in a poverty men-
tality. And if that is the case is there any
hope for a country that is in such desperate
need? For sure. I believe it is the children of
Haiti’s next generation that will lead the
way to a brighter future. Right now, wrongly
or rightly but children are being adopted in
to wealthier families to have a chance of a
better lifestyle. Only time will tell if those
adopted families will instill the love of Haiti
in to those children so they will return with
an upward spiral of thought that will change
Haiti’s paradigm of itself forever.

See what I mean? Take yourself to
the next level because as the
L’Oreal advert would say “ You’re
[definitely] Worth It!” NS
Sometimes, I really do...
I decided, by a destined series of enlightening moments at the end of last year, that 2010 was going to
be the year I would do everything I was always too scared to do. Somehow, I broke through something
in myself, gained a new confidence and following a series of inspirational workshops at the end of
2009, I feel totally ready for my own hero’s journey. So my question to you this month is: What are you
going to do this year that you’re scared of?
Think about it - what would you love to do but always think ‘I’m not good enough, I’m not worthy, I’m not perfect yet so I can’t...’? Well the truth is,
you can. You don’t have to wait to be perfect. It’s only you who puts that pressure on yourself, nobody else expects you to be perfect, only human.
I’ll share with you what I’m going for this year: I’ve said I’m going to present television and in the absence of anyone else giving me work, I’m just
going to go ahead and start broadcasting on the net, I’ve enrolled in a music school to do a singing course - something I have always wanted to do,
but had all the belief-based barriers above and finally, and more amusingly, I have enrolled in a Commercial Street Dance course, to really challenge
myself and because I live in London and I can. The idea of this course, may I just add, terrifies me. At school, dance was one of those things I wanted
to be good at, but somehow the coordination was lacking. So I decided it would be good for the inner child who wanted to be good at it, to give it
another go. I have been assured that it is an adult’s course and I’m not going to be left behind by a bunch of 9 year olds doing perfect break danc-
ing. Oh God, I hope it’s not break dancing... This is the kind of thing I might have talked myself out of, but because I know you ladies are leaping over
barriers, then I too can go ahead with the challenge. This is a big part of what the BLC is to me - having an incredibly strong support network to en-
courage you to go ahead and accomplish whatever you want to. Whatever it may be for you. Because you absolutely
can.
So think about something you’ve always wanted to do. Now think about why you’re not doing it. Sit with anything that comes up
- any negative feelings about yourself, any self-worth issues and just be with them for a few mo- ments. The more you allow them,
the less energy you will give them and they will start to fade. Practice this any time you start plac- ing negative values on yourself and
you can make a big difference. Picture the worse thing that could happen if you went ahead and did your specific activity - the worst thing -
go on, die your biggest death in your mind, in front of all your friends and possibly the whole world - how do you feel? And now that you have been
there, how do you feel? It’s somehow not that bad after the event - we’ve all done things which are excruciatingly embarrassing or threatening to
the ego - but the more you put yourself out there and realise that you’re already good enough, you don’t have to be perfect and it’s OK to have a
go, we can achieve huge things together. Don’t hold yourself back from the world - get in there and enjoy the journey - there’s no such thing as
failure - only learning! So what are you going to do that scares you this
year?! Kate McGurk
Strange News
A pheasant is terrorising a village -
trapping people in their homes and
attacking people in the street. The
vicious bird has launched several un-
provoked attacks on villagers in recent
weeks.
Men, women, children, prams, bikes,
dogs and cars are said to have fallen
foul of the bird in Newsham, near Rich-
mond, North Yorkshire. There are tales
of the plucky cock lying in wait for chil-
dren to get off the school bus, before
chasing them screaming to the village
green.
Well, that’s a pheasant surprise, not!
