Bridal gowns have per-sonality. As you cansee from the beautiful

gowns on these pages, a dress-es’ personality can range fromdemure to classic to fun andflirtatious! Because your gownwill make a visual statementwith its unique style, choosinga bouquet that either comple-ments or accentuates yourgown is important.

Flowers also have persona-lity. Back in the day all bridalbouquets were white. Not anymore. Just as colored embroi-dery has crept into the bodicesand skirts of bridal gowns, col-or has also made a move intothe white bouquet’s territory.

As you work with your pro-fessional florist on the bou-quets for your special day takea photograph of your gown forthem to see and then prepare tobe amazed! While white rosesor lilies are still a bridal stan-

dard, you may find yourselfdrawn to the luscious colors ofthe blush roses; the intriguinggreens of hydrangea, moss andleaves of all sizes and shapesthat can be woven in to createcontrast; the artful use of ber-ries; even the ribbons that wrapthe stems into a bouquet offermore choices than ever.

But let’s think more aboutthe personality of your gownand the personality of flowersagain. Is your gown soft andsexy? It could be well comple-mented by a bouquet of pale tu-lips or equally soft cream andpale green hydrangea, moss, and flowing ribbon. On theother hand, if your dresscreates a dramatic flair, con-sider colored lilies or red roses, bright berries and dramaticgreenery in a more striking ar-rangement.

The classic gown requests aclassic bouquet, please. Blushroses in a traditional shapewith gently tinged greenerybound in ribbon of a matchingcolor. A contemporary gown

with a carefree personality canbe best complemented by anequally carefree bouquet. Onethat might include twigs, vary-ing heights of flowers, andwhimsical color.

For instance, you might seebright tulips popping up out ofa mass of greenery and deeplycolored roses and such a bou-quet might have trailing green-ery and ribbon.

A professional floral de-

signer is trained to select bothdesigns and flowers that com-plement or accentuate theirsurroundings. Take the bou-quets we have pictured as ex-amples of floral design skill.Originals by Erin’s bouquetfeatures lots of color with irisand matching purple ribbon.

Kaylynne’s Briar Patchbouquets use cascading euca-lyptus at the base and tulips forheight and include contrastinggreens, berries, roses, and hy-drangeas. Her bridal bouquetof mixed blush and cream ros-es also has crystals embeddedin some of the blooms to mir-ror the sparkle in gowns withcrystal embellishment. BlackMountain Floral’s petite callalily bouquet is softly colorfuland classically shaped. I wouldsuggest providing your design-

er with pictures of your gownand the gowns selected foryour bridesmaids, if possible,so they can see the personali-ties that will surround their

flower designs! Be open toyour floral designer’s creativeideas and they will reward youwith a bouquet that comple-ments your gown perfectly!
