B.Y.O.B. (BRINg YOuR OWN BOOK) TO THE NExT BK JEWISH PARENTINg BOOK CLuB)  from 9-10 am.   In particular, we are bringing in books for very young children discussing God. As many parents have nuanced, complex, com-plicated and even unresolved ideas about God, we will be looking at children’s books that still leave room for creative interpretations without being confusing for young minds.

BA’AL TEFILLAH TRAININg Monday, December 17 at 7:20 pm and continuing on Mondays.  We are training a new cohort of ba’alei tefillah! If you’ve ever wanted to learn to lead Shabbat morning services, join us for a class on service leading co-taught by Rabbi Ariann and our songleader, Lincoln Richman.

WEDNESDAY MEDITATION MINYAN at 8 am  led by Rabbi Elliott.

JuDAISM AND LEADERSHIP Wednesday, December 19 at 8 pm following the 7:30 minyan.  Study current events through the lens of Jewish texts, liturgy and wisdom through the ages. The second of a three-part series, this class will look at what Judaism has to say about the qualities of leaders and their role in soci-ety, in preparation for our President Elect’s inauguration. These classes will be absolutely non-partisan, and designed to address the election season, inaugura-tion, and beyond. Taught by Rabbi Ariann.

THE LuNCH & LEARN gROuP Date TBA in January from 1-2:30 pm.  Bring photos, memorabilia, etc., and we will continue to explore ways to create a legacy by putting your family history and values into a form you can pass on to succeeding generations. All sessions will begin with a short teaching by Rabbi Ariann and end with a few minutes of singing led by Jeanne Krausman.

PalesTinian israelis  Sunday, January 6 at 7:30 pm at Shomrei.  The third of five forums organized by Bnai Keshet and Shomrei Emunah focused on finding ways for concerned Jews to improve social justice in Israel for wom-en, Ethiopian immigrants, migrant workers and Palestinians. Co-sponsored by Bnai Keshet and Shomrei Emunah.

BK READS VISITS THE PAST!!! Saturdays after kiddush in Red gables. This year’s selections focus on historical fiction beginning with the onset of Christian-ity followed by the Middle Ages, then the Holocaust, and ending up almost to the present. January 12 The Dovekeepers: a novel by Alice Hoffman. Four women, the only ones left after battling with the Roman armies, struggle to survive at Masada.

NExT JCC BOOK gROuP The World Without You by Joshua Henkin. Thursday, January 17 at 7:30 pm at the JCC , West Orange. Henkin will be there to discuss his new novel. He is the author of Matrimony, a New York Times Notable Book, and Swimming Across the Hudson, a Los Angeles Times Notable Book. He will sign books at the event, so place your order for The World Without You at the JCC soon...you might wish to own this one! Henkin’s author visit will be open to the community, so please feel free to invite your friends, whether or not they have been members of our Book Group.

PJ LIBRARY is a program offered to the MetroWest community thanks to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and local funders. Families with children ages 6 month to 5 1/2 years are eligible to enroll on a first-come, first-served basis. The child will receive a free age-appropriate book or CD each month! Join our Food Justice Efforts

HELP OuT WITH MESH Mondays at 6:30 pm. Help provide a warm dinner and company to Montclair’s homeless this season by helping host BK’s Monday evening MESH meal. Young people are not only welcome, but play a key role in preparing, serving and running our meals.

Did you know??

FREE BABYSITTINg IS AVAILABLE FOR ADuLT ED AND THE SERVICE when Beit midrash is in session, starting 9 am each Shabbat in our newly remodeled child care room (left off the elevator.)  An array of toys and drawing materi-als are on hand for preschool children of different ages. Children may dress up, build with blocks, work with puzzles and much more. A small library supplies books to encourage their love of language. The sound is piped in so you won’t miss the service if you want to stay with your child.
