This study evaluated the relationship between maternalsmoking, gender, and nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate (NSCL/P). We performed a cross-sectional single-centre study. Weinterviewed 1,519 mothers and divided them into 2 groups: cases, who were mothers of children with NSCL/P (n ¼ 843) andcontrols, who were mothers of children without NSCL/P (n ¼676). All mothers were classified as smokers or non-smokersduring the first trimester of pregnancy. Bivariate and multivariateanalyses were performed through the x2 and Poisson regression, which yielded significant results. Statistically significant differ-ences were observed between cases and controls and also betweendifferent types of clefts. Maternal smoking increased the chanceof clefts in both genders; however, this increase was significantonly for females (OR ¼ 1.58; CI 95%:1.35e1.84). Our findingsare consistent with a positive association between maternalsmoking and NSCL/P. Acknowledgment: FAPEMIG.
PE-347 - ASSOCIATION OF MYOFIBROBLASTS ANDMAST CELLS WITH DENTIGEROUS CYSTS, ODONTO-GENIC KERATOCYSTS, AND AMELOBLASTOMAS.JOABEDOSSANTOSPEREIRA,ADRIANACOSTADESOUZAMARTINS CÂMARA, FERNANDO JOSÉ DE OLIVEIRANÓBREGA, RODRIGO GADELHA VASCONCELOS, LÉLIABATISTA DE SOUZA, LÉLIA MARIA GUEDES QUEIROZ.UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE.
This study evaluated the presence of myofibroblasts (MF) andmast cells (MC) in dentigerous cysts (DC), odontogenic kerato-cysts (OKc), and solid ameloblastomas (AM).Study Design: Thesample included 20 cases of each lesion. Specimens were sub-mitted to immunohistochemistry using a-SMA and Tryptase anti-bodies. Cells were counted in 5 fields for MF and in 10 fields forMC. Results: Degranulated MF were more frequent in AM, fol-lowed by OKc, and then by DC (p ¼ 0.002). MC were morefrequent in DC, followed by OKc, and then by AM (p < 0.001).The Pearson correlation test between MF and degranulated MCrevealed a moderate positive correlation for OKc (R ¼ 0.562;p ¼ 0.010) and for AM (R ¼ 0.539; p ¼ 0.014). Conclusion: MFcould be related to the biological behavior of odontogenic lesions, mainly their aggressiveness. Inflammatory conditions could influ-ence the presence of MC in cystic and neoplastic lesions. Inaddition, MC may induce the differentiation of fibroblasts in MF.
PE-348 - ASSOCIATION OF PSORIASIS ANDGEOGRAPHIC TONGUE WITH HUMAN LEUKOCYTEANTIGEN. Geographic tongue (GT) may represent an oral lesion ofpsoriasis. The association of human leukocyte antigens (HLA)with psoriasis vulgaris (PV) and GT can confirm this relation. This study typed and compared HLA classes I and II of PV, GT,and healthy controls (HC). Material and Methods: 58 PV, 26 GT,and 125 HC were HLA typed using a polymerase chain reactionwith sequence-specific primers method. Results: The frequency ofHLA-A*25 was 5% PV, 4% GT, and 0% HC (p ¼ 0.044). HLA-B*57 was present in 21% PV, 0% GT and 4% HC (p ¼ 0.001).
HLA-B*58 was present in 7% PV, 27% GT, and 10% HC (p ¼0.018). HLA-C*06 was significantly present in 33% PV, 25%GT, and 5% HC (p ¼ 0.021). No correlation was found with HLAclass II. Conclusion: HLA-A*25 and C*06 were more prevalentin PV and GT, confirming the association.
PE-349 - BIOLOGICAL ROLE OF HOXA10 HOMEO-BOX GENE IN ORAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA.MANOELA CARRERA, CAROLINA CAVALCANTI BITU,AKI MANNINEN, TUULA SALO, RICARDO DELLACOLETTA. FACULDADE DE ODONTOLOGIA DEPIRACICABAeUNICAMP.
This study compared the levels of HOXA10 in oral samplesfrom normal mucosa and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)samples and analyzed the effects of overexpression and neutral-ization of HOXA10 in modulating the main events associatedwith tumorigenesis. Study Design: The levels of HOXA10 wereevaluated by qRT-PCR, and HOXA10 effects on tumorigenicphenotypes were evaluated on HaCaT normal keratinocytesoverexpressing HOXA10 and on HSC-3 tongue carcinoma cellsexpressing a shRNA neutralizing sequence. Results: Theexpression of HOXA10 was significantly higher on OSCC sam-ples when compared to normal tissues. HaCaT cells over-expressing HOXA10 showed higher expression of N-cadherinand b-catenin, and adhesion and migration were coordinatelyregulated on those cells. The neutralization of HOXA10 reducedsignificantly the proliferation but induced the expression of EMTmarkers and the adhesion, migration, and invasion of HSC-3cells. Conclusion: Results suggest that HOXA10 expressionmodulates important events associated with the development andprogression of OSCCs.

Bisphosphonates are medicines used for their affinity withbony tissue, especially with respect to upper osteolytic activityand despite minimal collateral effects. A complication oftheir use is jaw osteonecrosis. Through this study we evaluate84 implantodontists’ knowledge about the bisphosphonates-osteonecrosis interaction. Of those interviewed, 96.5% reportedthat the topic was addressed in the dental school. When theywere asked if they inquired of their patients about bisphosph-onates use, 88.1% responded positively, although 11.9% saidthey did not request this information before planning surgery. When the patient reported use the medicine, 57.1% of thoseinterviewed pursued medical physician assistance and 16.7%requested additional tests. The group of interviewees rated38.1% of patients with this pathology in clinical care; theclinical treatment for 51.2% was surgical debridement. The datacollected from the majority of participants indicated they hadknowledge about the subject and about the best approach to befollowed.
