FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Ludden Family,
W e did it! We got the school year off to a great start! As with all newness, it fades a bit, but for the most part our students like their classes, new teachers, new uniforms, and are doing well in sports and science activities. There is a spirit among the classes that is palpable and fresh. There is renewal in pride and Ludden tradition that energizes the activities and motivation to do more, be more, for others, school, and self. I thank you for helping to feed that spirit. I also thank God for the gift of your students and the life they bring to us and Ludden.
Another great thing is that both Varsity boys and girls soccer teams are ranked this year! Our football team is doing a great job, and Volleyball is having a winning season as well. I attribute this to student athletes who are committed to academics, sports, and their coaches. Mr. Driscoll is doing a fine job communicating to parents and coaches and the community.
STEM Club is working on beginning a recycling program with OCRRA, MOST Rocket Challenge, LEXUS ECO to our existing Aquaponics, Robotics, and Science Olympiad. ChemClub, Physics Club, and TACNY events are part of the exciting world of Ludden Science after hours!
Our House System is getting a great start and the Peer Leaders visited each House to begin activities and to engage all students to form relationships, have fun, and build spirit.
We have grown already as we are still admitting students who seek a Ludden education based in faith and service. Mr. Oswalt is visiting feeder schools and spreading the great news that is Bishop Ludden.
As always, I am here to listen to your concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me either by email or phone. I am grateful that you have chosen to send your son or daughter to Bishop Ludden. That is a trust I hold in my heart.
Please continue to pray for me and Bishop Ludden Jr/Sr High School as we move into the crispness of Fall, and all the exciting dreams of this school year to come.
God bless you!
Mrs. Brenda Reichert

Campus Ministry activities, events, and sacraments are organized by a group of seniors
called Peer Leaders. Through retreats, journaling, and prayerful activities, the Peer Lead-
ers strengthen our faith and become Disciples of Christ. Being a Peer Leader is not only
about being a role model for the underclassmen and other students, but sharing the love
God has given us. Over the summer the Peer Leaders attended an overnight retreat at
Lourdes Camp. This retreat made it possible for the Peer Leaders to open up our eyes and
hearts and take in all the blessings God has given. During the two days we spent together
we celebrated mass with Fr. Dan Caruso, had adoration with Fr. Jason Hage, played man
hunt, enjoyed a bonfire, and did activities that strengthened each other’s faith, trust, and
love. One memorable time of retreat was during adoration when Fr. Jason encouraged
us to pray to Jesus. This was an emotional experience for some of the Peer Leaders and
made us reflect on our lives and our journey with Jesus. Retreat was an awesome expe-
rience for all Peer Leaders and together we walk with Jesus and share God’s love with
our Ludden community. Written by Megan Sierotnik, gr 12
Bishop Ludden was fortunate
enough to celebrate the first
school-wide mass of the 2016-2017 school year with the newly
ordained Fr. Peter Tassini, a Ludden alum. He shared with the
students his memories of his time at
Ludden. He noted, “I found out how
wonderful it is to be part of the Catho-
lic Church and to be part of Bishop
Ludden, a place that strives to follow
Christ in everything that we do.” -
Written by Cara Smith, grade 12
The next school-wide mass is Tues-
day, October 4th at 9:30am in the
Gymnasium
On Thursday,
September 29, all
Bishop Ludden students
were able to attend the
2nd Annual Service
Fair. Each student is
required to complete a

Have you heard about Hogwarts School? If you have, then you probably know about the Harry Potter books and movies.
Bishop Ludden is adopting one of Hogwarts School traditions (not spells or wizardry, of course), but instead the House sys-
tem points. As you know, all students are split into different houses by grade level. Each house will be competing against
one another for a quarterly prize. There will be a junior high winner and a senior high house winner for EACH quarter.
Plus, at the end of the school year, there will be a grand prize winner for the most points accumulated from all four quar-
ters combined. The point charts will be displayed on the bulletin boards outside of the cafeteria. Winners of each quarter
will receive a prize; such as a pizza party, dress down day or ice cream social party. Again, only the junior high and senior
high house with the most points will win the prize, NOT the entire grade level.
So, how do students receive points for their house? There are three different ways:
1.) Campus Ministry Peer Leaders and a volunteer senior student will be conducting different activities once a
month in the houses. For instance, just this past week, the Peer Leaders did an icebreaker game with each
house called “The Human Knot.” The class that had the fastest time received the most points.
2.) Surprise Dress Code Inspection. Peer Leaders will be coming into the houses and checking if the students are
in proper dress code. (see page 3-4 of the Student Handbook – green calendar – for guidelines on dress code)
3.) Students can attend certain school activities. Students, parents and faculty will be given a list of what activities
will count towards points at the beginning of each quarter. The day after the activity, Peer Leaders will go into
the houses to tally how many students from each house attended the event.
Points are given on percentage. For example, if 70% of the house is in proper dress code or attend one of the activities, the
house receives 7 points, 80% = 8 points, 90% = 9 points, but if 100% are in proper dress code or attend one of the designat-
ed activities, not only does the house receive 10 points, but they will receive an additional 10 bonus points.
So, what’s the point of this House System friendly competition? Not just to receive a pizza party, but more importantly, to
create relationships and build bonds between fellow classmates.
Best of luck to all houses! If you have any questions regarding the above guidelines, please contact Mrs. Amanda, Campus
Minister. ([email protected])
