A weekly publication for members and friends of Resurrection and the Child Development Center

Resurrection’s Mission Statement: Called by God’s Spirit, we are to be the presence of Christ in our daily lives so that others will follow him.

John Wiedenbauer is stepping down as Usher Coordinator at Resurrection after

20 years. Most parishioners have never realized the time and effort he has put in to making

our weekend Services run as smoothly as they do.

Over that period, most weekends have found him present at all four services and more often

than not, stepping in as needed. John developed the current seating chart and legend as well

as the current Communion procedures for both regular Sunday and Holiday Services. He has

instituted a weekly reminder for the some 80 ushers who volunteer on a weekly Service basis. John’s efforts have made our Services essentially seamless and very efficient.

John has lived in Tucson for sixty years with wife, Sylvia, and we are delighted that he will remain an active member

of Resurrection in his “retirement.” Please join us on the patio this Sunday, June 2, after the 9:15am Service to

thank John for his years of service and enjoy a piece of cake to celebrate!

Starting this week, we will go to a summer break for our Wednesday Worship. We will not

gather on Wednesdays during the months of June, July and August. We will resume

Wednesday Worship at 6:15pm on September 4. We look forward to offer a new look to the

Wednesday evening Worship time in the fall. Stay tuned for the plans!

Bishop Deborah Hutterer will preach at our OV Services this weekend, June 1-2!

We are honored to have our Grand Canyon Synod Bishop, Deb Hutterer, with us at our OV

Services this weekend! Bishop Hutterer, who was elected last summer as our synodical Bishop

at the Synod Assembly held at Resurrection, will bring us God’s Word through the sermon.

Please welcome Bishop Hutterer!

This Sunday, June 2, we are in need of volunteers to help stack and move the Sanctuary

chairs after the last Service in preparation for Vacation Bible School. We will also need

volunteers on Friday, June 7 at 12:45pm to help put the chairs back in place after VBS

is over. If you are available to help on either or both days, please join us! Questions? Con-

tact Brenda O’Connor at 520-575-9901.

What’s Happening @ Resurrection HELP NEEDED!

The Council and Finance Committee are

searching for a person to assist with a

bookkeeping project. The qualified person

will have an accounting background and

have comprehensive knowledge and expe-

rience with Quick Books. If you have an interest, please con-tact Judy Stanard at 520-818-6758 or [email protected].

Your Council at Work! The Strategic Planning Committee is working and

making huge strides toward their goal of stating

the vision and the method of achieving that vision

within the next 3, 5 and 10 years. Each of you will

be encouraged to share your thoughts and ideas

with the Committee. At the end of the process,

combining their knowledge, research and infor-

mation provided by the congregation, they will

present a final product of the Vision Statement

that will give us a plan to place our church on an

upward trajectory of spiritual and mission growth.

And, in partnership with the Finance Com-

mittee….We are in the planning stage of rebuild-

ing our financial system, processes and proce-

dures. Our planning started with the financial re-

view that was completed by our own Katie Max-

well and her team. They gave us recommenda-

tions for new and improved processes and proce-

dures and a vision of a system that would benefit

the church at the present time and well into the

future. These changes will mesh perfectly with the

Strategic Planning Committee’s final product de-

fining a plan for the future of Resurrection Luther-

an Church.

Our goal is to work for you

and with you to give all of us

the very best worship experi-

ence possible and provide a

way to be ‘the presence of

Christ in our daily lives so that

others will follow him.’

All single men and women are

fice if you plan to come. If you have any questions, please con-

tact June Anderson at 801-745-9609.

Our April luncheon will be held at Pastiche

(3025 N. Campbell Ave.). Separate checks will

be available. We need to confirm our reserva-

Resurrection @ SaddleBrooke

This year we have the opportunity to help

needy children in TWO schools start

the school year with new shoes!

As in past years, in support of the Head Start program at

Prince School, we will be collecting gift cards for the children in

this program. Our goal this year is to provide a $20 Walmart

gift card for each child for a new pair of shoes & socks to start

their new school year. There are 61 students enrolled in this

program.

In addition, we will also collect gift cards to provide

shoes for the Shoe Pantry at Coronado K-8 School. The

school stocks shoes in various sizes in their pantry for students

who are in desperate need of school shoes.

At both schools, these students come from low income homes

and many get hand-me-downs or other used shoes. In the case

of Prince, the gift cards and a note for each child for shoes and

socks will be their “BIG STEP” into a new school year. At

Coronado, we will be able to assist in providing shoes for their

pantry.

For two weekends in June, there will be a decorated box in

Oro Valley and envelopes in SaddleBrooke for your do-

nations of either a $20 gift card for Walmart, $20 cash, or a

check (made out to Resurrection, with Head Start/Big

Step in the memo line). These are important programs to each

of these communities! Praise God for leading us to expand this Min-

istry! Thanking YOU in advance for all your generosity!

Not everyone leaves Tucson in the summer! Members of Resurrection who continue to enjoy

the outdoors in the summer are invited to attend a Hiking Life Group Social on Saturday,

June 29, 2:00pm-4:30pm. New member Mary Davis is hosting this social to get acquainted

with other members. It will be a snack potluck and Mary will provide beverages. It will be a

nice time to explore creative ideas for enjoying God’s wonderful creation together. One possi-

ble event is a hike to enjoy an evening sunset together in Catalina State Park. Email Mary Da-

vis [email protected] to learn more about the social gathering on June 29th in her

home close to Resurrection Lutheran Church. Note: Our hikes are all levels, easy to

strenuous. If you are interested in learning more, join us!

Many of you know we sell coffee before or after Services on the 1st and 3rd weekends of the

month. This coffee is from Cafe Justo, a coffee cooperative in Mexico; sales benefit growers in several villag-

es, primarily in Chiapas. Try some today!

For all you crafters out there, it is time to get busy creating your unique craft items! Regis-

tration forms available in the church office and on our website at www.orovalley.org. Call

Net:

The operating income fund is the one that serves to fund

our everyday expenses, and does not include the mortgage

or the Child Development Center.

Operating income is slightly below budget, but expenses are

still above plan, due mainly to unbudgeted costs relating to

professional services for accounting needs, and several ex-

penses that carried over from 2018. In the coming months,

this deficit should begin to be reduced as expenses normal-

ize. However, we continue to fund unbudgeted expense in

the area of services needed in the accounting function. It is

important that our income remain at or above plan to sup-

port the ministries of our congregation.
