The Pastor’s Corner To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. - Winston Churchill September has come and change is on the way. To be honest the change from summer to autumn in Florida does not seem that drastic, it is still hot after all. However, this change makes the cycle of life possible. Some people hate to see the summer go, while others long for, eventually, cooler weather that fall brings. Whichever side you fall on it still comes and for that matter it has to come or our who ecosystem would get out of order. In the church we talk about change a great deal and just like in every other area of life, sometimes we hate to see it come and sometimes it cant come fast enough, but it does come, or else the church dies. The question then is not, should churches embrace change, the question is what changes should we embrace and why. Let me begin by saying that Gods word is never on the change table. His word is the bedrock on which we build our faith and Gods Kingdom. Gods mission for the church is also not up for discussion, the Great Commission of Matthew 28 is very clear. We are to go and make disciples. So what should change? Anything and everything that hinders us from carrying out Gods call for the church. There are too many people in the world who live without the love of Christ. Too many people are lost in sin for the church to get wrapped up in the non-essentials. We need to always be looking for ways to do Gods work better. How can we make our worship services more inviting and engaging for people who do not have a relationship with Jesus? How do we reach out more effectively to share the good news with our community? How do we create a more inviting and worshipful atmosphere in our buildings and grounds? What we do matters and we need to always be in the process of realigning our resources for maximum kingdom growth. Pine Forest is growing and God is just getting started. In the church we talk about change a great deal and just like in every other area of life, sometimes we hate to see it come and sometimes it can’t come fast enough, but it does come, or else the church dies.

The question then is not, should churches embrace change, the question is what changes should we embrace and why. Let me begin by saying that God’s word is never on the change table. His word is the bedrock on which we build our faith and God’s Kingdom. God’s mission for the church is also not up for discussion, the Great Commission of Matthew 28 is very clear. We are to go and make disciples. So what should change? Anything and everything that hinders us from carrying out God’s call for the church. How do we reach out more effectively to share the good news with our community? How do we create a more inviting and worshipful atmosphere in our buildings and grounds?

What we do matters and we need to always be in the process of realigning our resources for maximum kingdom growth.

HANDS AND FEET Preschool class ages 3-6 will be on Wednesday nights beginning September 7th from 6pm-7pm this year. Allie will be doing a Bible lesson, arts and crafts/game and then they will wrap up with a music and worship time. Re-Alignment Class: Are looking for people who may need help around the house. It can be yard work or light repairs. You can email them at [email protected] or call the church office. They will need names, addresses and description of the need. Youth: Hey everybody! The youth have had an amazing summer! In between Camp Baldwin, Stay at Home Work Camp, Vortex Springs, Waterville and all the projects we did at home....we haven't had much time to breathe. We feel like the summer has been a deepening in our walk with Christ....and we are excited about all the awesome stuff to come! The scripture memory contest that Clint and I have been doing is back on in full force with the addition of two of our young men who wanted to join. Fifteen verses every week? Voluntarily? By teenagers? What is this world coming to?! In addition, we are starting a new Bible study on the book of James and have three young ladies who have taken it on themselves to memorize the entire book....and are working on five verses for every week.....WHOA! We also have our second annual Goodwill prom coming up on September 25th. This year we have asked our two sister churches to join us. This guarantees our event will be even bigger and better than last year! If you want to "SEE" what the youth are up to, come follow us on our Facebook page: Pfumc Youth Erin McClellan. Children: The new school year is officially upon us now, so myself and everyone else here at Pine Forest are lifting up our children and teachers in prayer for open minds and hearts. We started back with our Wednesday night dinners last week, followed by children’s Bible study from 6-7:00pm. It will be a wonderful time of food and fellowship each week. I am also very excited about the possibility of collaborating with our up and coming drama department on fun projects, maybe as soon as the end of the year. Looking forward to what September brings. Kathryn Prayer Shawl Group: Has given every senior adult a shawl this year and continue to give out shawls to new members and to the sick. These shawls are lovingly handmade and prayed over before they give them out. Ladies Friendship Circle: The September meeting will be at 10:30am in the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Dorothy Lee will be talking about “Cooking with Herbs” and the group is asking you bring your favorite salad dish to share. For the October 18th meeting they will go to Naval Air Base Museum for a movie and lunch in the Café. Mission’s Happenings: Richard’s Memorial Teams serve every 4th Sunday January—September. Teen Challenge will be performing for us on October 2nd at both services. Tailgate: Has lunch prep on Wednesday’s at 10:00am and on Thursday’s at 10:00am they take food to the homeless with the exception of the last Thursday of the month when they serve breakfast they leave at 9:00am. Sports Department: We hope to start back our open gym basketball and bible study in September. We will do kids basketball Dec - Feb (registration in November).

If you are a committee chair or Sunday School Leader please contact the office and tell us about your ministry so we can get it in the newsletter.

From the Prayer Closet

From Jesus Calling............ENTRUST YOUR LOVED ONES TO ME; release them into My protective care. They are much safer with Me than in your clinging hands. If you let a loved one become an idol in your heart, you endanger that one—as well as yourself. Joseph and his father, Jacob, suffered terribly because Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other sons and treated him with special favor. So Joseph’s brothers hated him and plotted against him. Ultimately, I used that situation for good, but both father and son had to endure years of suffering and separation from one another. I detest idolatry, even in the form of parental love, so beware of making a beloved child your idol. When you release loved ones to Me, you are free to cling to My hand. As you entrust others into My care, I am free to shower blessings on them. My Presence will go with them wherever they go and I will give them rest. This same Presence stays with you as you relax and place your trust in Me. Watch to see what I will do. Genesis 37:3-4; Ephesians 3:20; Exodus 33:14 Release your loved ones to God and see what He will do! What prayers has God answered for you? Let us hear from you!

What does C³ mean? Create Disciples The Great Commission tells us that our primary task as Christian people and as the church is to make disciples. But what is a disciple? A disciple is someone who is fully committed to he lordship of Christ growing as reflections of God’s love, character and holiness. In order to do that we have to commit ourselves to growing as disciples so that we can help others become disciples. Connect in Community. Real life transformation happens in authentic relationships. We want everyone to be able to join with others in real Christ centered relationships that will help us grow in discipleship but also develop true friendships. We do this in small groups, Sunday school, ministry teams, fellowship meals, and any other opportunities where people can gather and do life together. Commit to Serve We are all part of the Body of Christ and each of us has unique gifts. Following Jesus as a disciple means using those gifts to offer God’s love and share God’s story with others. We encourage everyone to get involved and find a place to serve. There are plenty of opportunities to make a difference.

Library Corner If you haven’t already been in our church library, please come check it out! It’s in building 2 (behind sanctuary). We’ve done a complete makeover and it now has a comfy chair to relax while you browse. Did you know we have an artist among us who has done 6 beautiful paintings for the library? You’ll be amazed. There’s a story in each one. Come and see what inspiration you can find. The books can be checked out for a month at a time. There is a 3-ring binder on the table to sign out/in your loans. Besides books, we have several CD’s and DVD’s available for you to borrow for 2 weeks at a time. Reference books are also available for you to use while you are in the library. Please do not check them out. Thank you. Also, behind the door we have several large ancient maps if you would like to check on locations in the Middle East, genealogies, the travels of Paul, and other information. Now… here’s where you can help. I would like several volunteers to read some books from our library and offer a synopsis and recommendation for me to put in upcoming newsletters, so that we can share what God has blessed us with. Thank you to all those who have donated to the library. If you are interested in donating, we will accept spiritual inventory only. Secular donations should go to public libraries or thrift stores. Happy reading! Margie Shelton
