Can you remember what we do?

Learning objective

I can analyse results and suggest solutions

Remember to/Success Criteria:

-make conclusions from data (results from the lab)-recognise patterns in data-discuss how we affect our environment-discuss what ways we can improve our environment-make a persuasive argument

Can you remember what air pollution is?

Air pollution is anything that causes the air to become contaminated with pollutants

What did we do for our experiment?

What was our prediction?

Results

How can we present the data in an eye catching and easy to understand way?

Class discussion

-In what kind of areas is the air most polluted?

-Have these results confirmed or disproved your predictions?

-What do you think happens when people breathe in air in the most polluted places?

How does air pollution affect us?

Affect your immune system, so that you can catch infections more easily.

Make you cough, splutter, wheeze, sneeze, dizzy and it can make your eyes itch.

Give you green snot, and more bogeys than your nostrils have space for.

Pollution can be blamed for an estimated 350 premature deaths in Birmingham this year.

What could we do to reduce air pollution and to limit our exposure to air pollution?

LONG TERM:

reduce traffic

redesign engines to use less petrol

more electric cars

MEDIUM TERM:

campaign to stop people leaving their engines on when dropping kids off at school (idling)

promote more walking and cycling to school

SHORT TERM:

You could ask to walk a different way to school

You could try to avoid busy roads

Talk about your concerns
