Executive Summary—Infusion Pumps

 You’re doing well here:

Plymouth Hospital’s IPM Intervals are equal to or exceed the BB

average.

Repairs are equal to or less frequent than the BB average for allpump categories.

Issues to consider:

Opportunities to reduce IPM and Repair time.

Model 6201 exceeds typical expected life and Model 6301 isentering the range for the “end of life”.

Six models of your pumps have been discontinued.

 You’re doing well here

Your IPM interval of 24 months is longer than the 12-monthinterval most frequently reported for the 6201 and 6301 infusion

pumps and their repair rate is the same as your colleagues.

The IPM intervals and times for 6101, Colleague 3CX, 2001 and

2010 are consistent with the BB data.

Repairs are less frequent than or equal to the BB average for allpump categories.

Issues to consider

IPM times for 6201 and 6301 are higher than the BB average. You may want to double check your procedures as you may be

able to save over ½ hour for each model.

Your average repair times are significantly higher for all of yourmodels when compared to BB data.

BB average times should reflect working time only (not travel

time or wait time). If your time recording procedures reflectthose other time categories, your averages will be higher than

the BB average.

Issues to consider

Model 6201 has exceeded and Model 6301 is entering the

range for the typical expected life. If they meet your clinical

needs, they do not have to be replaced only for this reason. Ifyou replace them, ECRI Institute recommends using pumps with

Dose Error Reduction Systems.

Issues to consider

The following models appear on your inventory and on our

discontinued devices list:

--Flo-Gard 6201, 6301

--Colleague CX3 (your listing is “Colleague 3CX”)

--Med Fusion 2001, 2010, 3500

Check with each manufacturer to ensure that you will have

access to parts and service for discontinued devices or identify

alternative sources for parts and service, if required.

BiomedicalBenchmark™ Recommendations

Inspection and Preventive Maintenance:Review your current procedures and compare them to ECRI

Generic Procedures and User Contributed Procedures in BB.

Consider the use of automatic pump testers if you are not

already using them.

Repair:

Determine the amount of repair time that is associated with

battery failures and replacement.
