MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS RECEIVED

1. DISCOVERY DURING POST-DOCTORATE IN THE UK

During Post-doctoral research (1992-94) conducted at the University of Newcastle, Royal Victoria Hospital and Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, I discovered novel field of research i.e. PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES IN VARIOUS INSECTS AND THEIR ROLE IN INSECT RESISTANCE TO INSECTICIDES. Afterwards, certain students have completed Ph.D. and still more are doing research leading to their Ph.D. degrees. Dr. David Mantle (Head Regional Neuro-Sciences Centre General Hospital, Newcastle) gave this view point in his certificate awarded to me on the conclusion of Post-doctoral research that I discovered novel field of research. Moreover, Dr. Richard M. Wilkins (Senior Lecturer Department of Agri. and Environmental Science Newcastle) in his lecture delivered on 16.3.2001 during International Pakistan Congress of Zoology held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad confirmed my discovery as first of its kind as no research work had ever been done in any lab. throughout the world.

2. DISCOVERY DURING PH.D. IN THE PUNJAB UNIV. & UK

During Ph.D. research conducted (1982-87) at the Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab, Lahore and partly at the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Science, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, I discovered new areas of research and determined for the first time several enzyme activities (such as amylase, lactase, maltase, invertase, trehalase, protease, lactate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, cholinsterase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase) and various macromolecules (such as glucose, fructose, trehalose, glycogen, cholesterol, total lipids, soluble proteins, total proteins, free amino acids, urea, uric acid, DNA and RNA) in 6 th

instar larvae and adult beetles of red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum. Their role in insect resistance to insecticides was also reported. Since this field was developed/discovered for the first time in T. castaneum, hence several students have subsequently completed their M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in this area of research after my discovery.

3. ACCREDITED PH.D. SUPERVISOR BY MIN. S&T
