But the men’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon is the main event on campus, though the track teams are hosting New Hampshire, Vermont and yep, you guessed it, Maine. Dartmouth began a four-game home stand with a 64-59 loss to Quinnipiac on Wednesday, suffering through season lows in all three shooting catego- ries (36.9 FG pct., 27.8 3FG pct. and 50.0 FT pct.). Sophomore Chris Knight has been on a scoring spree of late, producing 20 points for the first time in his career against Albany on Nov. 30, then post- ing a career-high 23 versus Quinnipiac. He is aver- aging 15.6 points a game, fifth in the Ivy League. While Adrease Jackson has seen his scor- ing numbers dip of late, it has not affected his rebounding as he has had 10 boards in each of the past two games. The sophomore is fourth in the league with 7.3 rebounds a game. Long-distance shooting has been a big weapon for the Big Green this year, but they managed just five 3-pointers against Quinnipiac, and none from Brendan Barry. Yet he still ranks third in the league in triples per game (3.2) and second in 3-point accuracry (.558). Both James Foye and Ian Sistare are among the top 10 in the conference in threes per game, and both have hit more than 50 percent like Barry. Series vs. Maine Dartmouth leads the overall series, 13-11, win- ning five of the last six meetings including a 73-66 victory in Bangor on the very same date last year. Taylor Johnson had a career-high 29 points in the win with Chris Knight and Brendan Barry contributing 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Big Green are just 5-6 against Maine at home and lost the last showdown at Leede in 2016, 73-68. The Big Green are 119-112 all-time against cur- rent America East schools, including a win over Albany back last week. Scouting the Bobcats Maine struggled out of the gate, dropping its first eight games, though two of the defeats were in OT — 74-63 at North Texas and 63-59 at Saint Peter’s. It took double overtime for the Black Bears to record their first win, a 75-68 thriller against a 6-1 Fordham team out of the Atlantic-10. That win ended a 15-game skid that dated back to last season. Maine is one of 11 teams in Division I averaging less than 60 points a game at 58.9 ppg. Isaiah White (14.4 ppg) and Andrew Fleming (12.1) lead the Black Bears in scoring with the former shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor, and the latter leading the team with 19 3-pointers. But 3-point shooting has not been a strength overall with the team hitting just 28.3 percent (54- of-191) overall. Only Fleming has more than one with a percentage above 33.0 (9-of-24, .375). Fleming is also Maine’s top rebounder at 6.4 per contest with Vilgot Larsson backing him up at 4.9 a night. Overall the Black Bears have been bested on the boards by nearly six on average. Free throws have been anything but as the Black Bears make less than eight per game at a 62.4 percent clip. Richard Barron (Kenyon ’91) is in his first year guiding the men’s team after coaching the Black Bear women from 2011-17. He is the older brother of Walt Barron, who was coached by Dartmouth SID Rick Bender at Davidson on the baseball diamond. DARTMOUTH (4-5) VS. Big Green Men’s Basketball 2018-19Dartmouth College

Dartmouth vs. Maine — Dec. 8, 20182

Asst. Coach Pete HutchinsPlymouth State ’05 • 3rd year

Hutchins served as the head coach at New Hampton School — where he went to school — in New Hampton, New Hampshire, for nine years and earned NEPSAC AAA Coach of the year honors in

2015-16 after leading the Huskies to a 21-8 record. After studying for one year at UNH, Hutchins

completed his degree in history at Plymouth State in 2005. A team captain as a senior, he also helped the Panthers to a 24-6 record and the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament as a junior.

Dir. of Ops Ben DavisWheaton ’06 • 2nd year

A former assistant coach for McLaughlin at Stonehill, Davis joined the staff in October of 2017 after four years as the head coach at D-III Mount Ida.

The Mustangs improved their record in each of his

four years, culminating in 12 conference wins and a 17-10 overall record in 2016-17, leading to Davis’ selection as the GNAC Coach of the Year.

Davis was a four-year letter winner at Wheaton and was instrumental in ECAC Championship titles in 2005 and ’06.

Asst. Coach John AndrzejekColumbia ’14 • 1st year

Andrzejek begins his first year with the Green in 2018-19 after enjoying a terrific season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the 24-5 Johns Hopkins squad.

In 2016-17, he was the di-rector of basketball operations at the University of San Francisco, which went 20-13 for the program’s second-most wins in a season in over 30 years.

A philosophy major, he graduated in 2.5 years from Columbia while serving as the Lions’ team man-ager before being hired as the director of operations.

Asst. Coach Justin BradleyGuilford ’13 • 2nd year

Originally hired in 2015 as a volunteer assistant, Bradley returns to Hanover after a two-year stint at Williams.

Bradley helped the Ephs advance to the NCAA D-III Final Four in 2017 and achieve

a top-five national ranking both years. Three play-ers earned All-NESCAC honors during his tenure, including 2018 Player of the Year James Heskett.

This past May, Bradley was listed as an honoree on the NABC Under Armour 30-Under-30 as an up-and-coming young coach.

Dartmouth Director of Athletics and Recreation Harry Sheehy announced on April 25, 2016 that David McLaughlin was hired as the 28th head coach of the Big Green men’s basketball program.

“It is my great pleasure to bring David on board

as our men’s basketball coach,” Sheehy said. “He brings a wealth of experience along with great passion for the game. He is a strong tactician with a terrific history of developing players. I could not be more excited looking to the future for Dartmouth men’s basketball.”

The first season of that future in 2016-17 had the Big Green in the race to qualify for the inau-gural Ivy League Tournament going into the final day of the season. Although Dartmouth ultimately came up short with a road loss to undefeated Princ-eton, McLaughlin had rewarded the Big Green faithful with an exciting season featuring a mostly youthful roster. Dartmouth finished the season 7-20 overall and 4-10 in the Ancient Eight, includ-ing just the second season sweep of Penn in the previous 58 years, while Evan Boudreaux earned all-district honors from both the National Associa-tion of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).

McLaughlin came to Dartmouth after serving three years as the associate head coach and recruit-ing coordinator at Northeastern University, during which time the Huskies posted a combined record of 52-48. In 2014-15, he helped guide the Huskies to a 23-12 overall record and a regular season co-championship in the Colonial Athletic Association, as well as the CAA Tournament Championship to secure the school’s first bid to the NCAA Tourna-ment in 24 years.

Three of Northeastern’s players earned a total of five All-CAA honors, including Scott Eatherton who was the 2013-14 CAA Defensive Player of the year and Quincy Ford who garnered the CAA Tournament MVP award in 2014-15. McLaughlin also secured eight student-athletes for the classes of 2019 and 2020 from six different states, including Massachusetts, Florida and California.

Prior to his tenure at Northeastern, McLaughlin was the head coach at Division II Stonehill College in the Northeast-10 Conference. Under his tute-lage, the Skyhawks — which had been 11-45 in the two seasons before he took over — enjoyed terrific success with a combined 189-99 (.656) record in his nine-plus seasons (2004-13), including a 135-80 (.630) mark in conference play. Six times Stonehill won at least 20 games, topping out at 27 during the team’s run to the national semifinals in 2005-06.

The Skyhawks qualified for the NCAA Tourna-ment on five occasions (2006, ’09-12), twice win-ning the East Regional Championship to advance to the Division II Final Four (2006, ’12). McLaughlin also led Stonehill to two NE-10 regular-season

championships (2006, ’10) and an NE-10 Tourna-ment championship (2012), as well as a spot in the top-10 national rankings in four years.

The NABC Regional Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2011, and the NE-10 Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010, McLaughlin is the all-time wins leader at Stonehill. He mentored a total of 14 All-North-east-10 Conference players, including three first-team selections, as well as a player who received the NCAA Elite 89 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average among the teams competing at the 2012 Division II Elite Eight.

He produced three-straight NE-10 Defensive Players of the Year to highlight the program’s regular place atop the NE-10 and NCAA Division II defensive charts. Three Skyhawks earned NE-10 All-Rookie Team status during his tenure, and he produced three-straight NE-10 Defensive Players of the Year (2010-12).

McLaughlin was named Stonehill’s interim head coach in January 2004 after three-and-a-half seasons as an assistant coach, and hired on a per-manent basis later that year. In his first full season, he navigated the team to a 20-8 finish in 2004-05. Every one of his players graduated during his time as the head coach, spanning nearly a full decade.

Before joining the staff at Stonehill in 2000, McLaughlin served as an assistant coach at Wesley-an University for two seasons. He also spent time on the Suffolk University staff and was the head coach of the gold-medal-winning Northeast entry of the 1999 Bay State Games. McLaughlin served as a head coach at the Collegiate Basketball Invitational for four years, coaching top Division II senior players.

McLaughlin was a four-year letterwinner at Colby College, graduating in 1997 with a degree in history and going on to earn his Master of Educa-tion from Suffolk in 1999. In May 2000, McLaugh-lin earned partial certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

He and his wife, Jenna, have three children — Sydney (11), Ryan (10) and Colin (8).

Teddy Bear Time on SaturdayDartmouth encourages fans attending the men’s

basketball game against Maine on Saturday to bring along a teddy bear or other stuffed animal to throw onto the court at halftime. All of the animals will be donated to the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD).

Season Lows vs. QuinnipiacComing off extensive travel to the West Coast

and Ireland, Dartmouth struggled offensively in its first of four consecutive home games when it hosted the Bobcats on Dec. 5. The Big Green suffered through season lows in all three shooting percentages (36.9 FG, 27.8 3FG, 50.0 FT) in the 64-59 loss. And while Dartmouth entered the game second in the country in 3-pointers made per game, it managed to hit just five.

Knight Lights It UpSophomore Chris Knight lit up the scoreboard

against Quinnipiac with a career-high 23 points, his second-straight 20-point outing. The forward hit 10-of-17 shots — both personal highs as well — including his only 3-point attempt of the night, plus 2-of-3 at the line to account for his point total.

tinues to improve each time on the floor, setting a new season high in scoring in five of the last six games. Against Quinnipiac, the rookie hit 5-of-11 field goals with a trey as he finished the night with a dozen points. Over the last five games Samuels has averaged 9.4 points while shooting 47.2 percent overall and 44.4 percent from long range.

Chairmen of the BoardsSophomore Adrease Jackson has been very

active on the glass the past two games, collecting 10 rebounds in each of the last two games. His 7.3 caroms per game rank fourth in the Ivy League, while Chris Knight is fifth at 6.6. Another Big

Big Green Men’s Basketball 2018-19Dartmouth College

Dartmouth vs. Maine — Dec. 8, 20184

Green player got into the rebounding act against the Bobcats as Brendan Barry hauled in a career-high eight boards as well.

win in another CountryDartmouth played its first-ever games outside

of the United States when it participated in the Bel-fast Classic on Nov. 29-30, making its 91-77 victory over Albany in the consolation game of the Samson Bracket its first on foreign soil.

3 for 20While 3-for-20 would not be a good shooting

percentage, it was a terrific result for Dartmouth against Albany at the Belfast Classic on Nov. 30 as three players scored at least 20 points for the Big Green — Brendan Barry (25), James Foye (20) and Chris Knight (20). Both Foye and Knight reached the 20-point plateau for the first time in their careers, while Barry’s 25 points were one shy of his personal best set in the season opener this year. They are the first trio of Dartmouth teammates with 20 or more points in a game in at least 21 years.

Knight Makes All-TournamentSophomore Chris Knight was selected to be

a member of the Belfast Classic All-Tournament Team for the Samson Division after averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds for the two games in Northern Ireland, including a career-high 20 points in the 91-77 victory over Albany. The sophomore hit 60.9 percent (14-of-23) of his shots from the floor, including his only 3-point attempt, and 7-of-8 at the foul line.

Lighting It Up•After hitting 17-of-33 3-pointers against Albany

but only five versus Quinnipiac, Dartmouth ranks third in the nation in 3-pointers made (12.4 per game) and seventh in percentage as a team (.429).

•The 112 treys are more than half of the Big Green total made all of last season (200) and puts Dart-mouth on pace to hit 373, which would shatter the program record of 263 set in 2001-02.

•Dartmouth started the year with four straight games with at least 10 3-pointers, its longest such streak since a six-game stretch in 2002.

•Brendan Barry ranks eighth in the country at 55.8 percent (29-of-52) behind the arc while Ian Sistare (54.1) and James Foye (53.8) are short of the made 3-pointers to qualify for the rankings.

laSt meetingDartmouth 73, Maine 66Bangor, Maine — Dec. 8, 2017

Taylor Johnson scored 12 of the final 15 Dartmouth points to carry the Big Green to a 73-66 victory at Maine. Johnson finished the night with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting as Dartmouth picked up what would be its only road win of the season.

The Big Green began the game well, hitting four of their first five shots en route to an early 11-3 lead, but Maine battled to take a 23-18 lead with 6:30 left in the half.

Dartmouth reclaimed the lead by the intermission, 32-27, as Johnson capped the stanza with a 3-pointer.

In the second half, Dartmouth continued its scoring surge, quickly building a 13-point lead at 40-27. But the Black Bears went to a full-court press and turned several turnovers into some easy buckets during a 15-3 run.

The Big Green trailed by two, 52-50, when Johnson sank a pair of free throws. Brendan Barry then drained two of his four triples for a 58-55 lead.

Johnson took over from there, scoring the next 10 Dartmouth points. Although Maine managed to tie the score at 63, Johnson responded with his fourth trey of the night, giving the Big Green the lead for good with 1:47 to play.

exceptionally accurate shots as the Big Green bur-ied 17 3-pointers against the Great Danes. It was Dartmouth’s second-most triples against a Division I team with the most coming against … Albany on Jan. 20, 2001. The Green have now hit 15 or more long balls three times this year after reaching the total just four times in previous seasons combined.

Sour Second HalfFor 23 minutes, Dartmouth played San Fran-

cisco to a near draw out on the West Coast, trailing by three up to that point. But the Dons rattled off 15 straight points to take control of the game and send the Big Green to an 84-65 defeat on Nov. 24. Although Dartmouth has scored seven more points than its opponents after halftime this year, it has been outscored in the second stanza in the last five contests by a combined 45 points.

Worst Loss in a DecadeAfter starting the season winning three of its

first four contests, Dartmouth ran into 22nd-ranked Buffalo on Nov. 21. The Bulls handed the Big Green a 110-71 loss, their largest margin of de-feat since a 97-58 game at Yale in February of 2008. And the 110 points were the most by a Dartmouth opponent since Brown hung 111 on the Green back in 1975.

Sistare Shines in DefeatWhile Dartmouth would rather forget its loss

to No. 22 Buffalo, junior Ian Sistare had a game to remember with a career-high 18 points. Sixteen of those points came in a five-minute stretch in the first half after the Big Green had fallen behind 15-0. Sistare came off the bench and ended the run with a bucket before adding a three-point play and three trifectas to give him a new career high before 10 minutes had elapsed.

Second Time in Triple DigitsDartmouth defeated Division III Elms College

on Nov. 13 by a final of 100-54, the team’s second game scoring at least 100 points this season (the other was a 114-39 win over Newbury on Nov. 6). The last time the Big Green hit triple digits twice in one season came 30 years ago (1988-89) when they scored 103 points in victories against both St. Francis (N.Y.) and Harvard.

ian iotasIn the 100-54 win over Elms College, Dart-

mouth’s two junior Ians — Carter and Sistare — each contributed 15 points. Carter hit 5-of-9 field goals with a 3-pointer for his first career foray into double figures after sitting out last season, while Sistare missed just one shot all night (4-for-4 FG, 2-for-2 3FG, 5-6 FT).

Board ScoresSophomore Chris Knight took to the boards

against Elms College, hauling in a career-high 11 rebounds in the victory. It was his second double-digit game on the glass this year, having had 10 in the season opener against Newbury.

Big Green Men’s Basketball 2018-19Dartmouth College

Dartmouth vs. Maine — Dec. 8, 20186

like to See you SwettSophomore walk-on Ben Swett scored the

first points of his career when he drove for a layup against Elms College on Nov. 13. He would have also had his first 3-pointer, but as he was shoot-ing, a teammate was whistled for an offensive foul, negating the shot that swished through the net.

Career Nights Lead to VictorySophomores Adrease Jackson and Chris

Knight both recorded career highs in scoring in the 82-80 victory at Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 11 with the former tallying 25 points and the latter 19 (since bested). The 6-8 Jackson did most of his damage from downtown or the charity stripe, drilling 5-of-8 triples and all six of his free throws. While Knight did hit his first career 3-pointer, his most important work came in the final nine minutes when he posted 13 of his 19 points to help fend off a Greyhound ral-ly. Both players blocked three shots and led the team in rebounds (eight for Jackson, seven for Knight).

Near Miss at DavidsonAfter Brendan Barry hit a 3-pointer with 5:45

left in the first half to put Dartmouth ahead, 27-26, the Big Green enjoyed the lead throughout the rest of the game … until the final minute. The Wildcats, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago picked to finish third in the Atlantic-10, tied the game with 54.7 seconds left on a 3-pointer, then sank three free throws after a questionable foul with 4.7 ticks remaining. Dartmouth still had a chance to tie the game, but a 3-point try at the buzzer was blocked.

Records Fall in Season OpenerDartmouth got a chance to see all 14 active play-

ers for a minimum of five minutes in the season-opening 114-39 victory over Division III Newbury. While the 114 points are “only” the second-most by a Big Green team, the 22 3-pointers, 31 assists, 64 rebounds, 61 first-half points (though the record for either half is 63), 45 3-point attempts and 82 field goal attempts all set new standards in the Dartmouth annals.

Knight and DayChris Knight recorded his first career double-

double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the sea-son opener against Newbury. This double-double is just the fourth by any current member of the Big Green squad, and the first of those four to come in a Dartmouth victory.

boy oh foyeMaking the most of his first collegiate start

in the season opener was junior James Foye. He produced 18 points while matching a career high with eight rebounds. It was the first time Foye had scored in double figures in college as he also set personal bests with seven field goals.

Hardly a SlajchertRookie Wes Slajchert wasted no time in show-

ing off his skills in the season opener, drilling four treys for 12 points, dishing out five assists, blocking three shots and stealing the ball twice. That’s a pretty full stat sheet, especially for someone whose name is pronounced SLACK-ert.

Let’s Not Forget the DefenseLost in the staggering offensive numbers in

the season opener was the clamps put on by the defense. Newbury converted a mere 22.9 percent (16-of-70), the lowest for any Big Green opponent over the last 20 years. Dartmouth also held the Nighthawks to six field goals and 15 points in the second half, the fewest allowed over the last 20 seasons as well.

Preseason PollDartmouth was pegged to finish eighth in the

preseason media poll. At the top is Harvard with 137 points and a dozen first-place votes, beating out Penn (122 points, five first-place votes) and Yale (115, one). Princeton is listed comfortably ahead of Brown for the fourth and final berth at the Ivy League Tournament with 92 points compared to the Bears’ 64. The bottom three shape up with Cor-nell (54), Columbia (43) and Dartmouth (21).

Welcome Back CarterWhile Smith only played in three games a year

ago, forward Ian Carter missed out entirely on his sophomore season. As a freshman in 2016-17, he played in 19 games, averaging 2.1 points and 1.3 re-bounds. Dartmouth is hopeful that he can continue his development and provided the Big Green with some low-post presence on the glass.

Oh Captains My CaptainsFor the first time in 19 years, and just fifth time

ever, Dartmouth will enter a basketball season with three captains guiding the squad. The players with the honor this season are senior Guilien Smith along with juniors James Foye and Ian Sistare, who just happen to be three of the four members of the team from New England. The last time the Big Green had three captains was in 1999-2000 with Chris Ellis, Shaun Gee and Jason Kemp leading the team.

International ExperienceTwo members of the Big Green hail from

outside of the United States — Isaac Letoa (New Zealand) and Aaryn Rai (Canada). Letoa even played for the New Zealand National Team (Junior Tall Backs), playing in the U19 FIBA World Cham-pionships in Cairo in July 2017.

Transfer to Sit Out SeasonTrevon Ary-Turner, a transfer from Weber

State, joined the Big Green this fall but won’t see any game action on the court due to NCAA transfer rules. Ary-Turner must sit out this season before resuming his eligibility in 2019-20 and is the second transfer for Dartmouth in the past five sea-sons. Quinten Payne sat out the 2014-15 campaign after arriving from Ball State.

fresh facesAside from Ary-Turner, Dartmouth welcomes

three members of the Class of 2022 to bolster the roster. Six-foot Taurus Samuels is a three-star point guard from Oceanside, California, who cap-tained his Vista High team to a 23-9 record while recording 19.6 points, 5.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. Another guard, 6-5 Wes Slajchert, is also from California (Oak Park) and was the Ven-tura County Start Scholar-Athlete of the Year when

he captained his school to a 21-7 record by posting 10.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game last year. The Big Green also added a forward from Madison, Mississippi, in 6-6 Garrison Wade. Also a captain, he led his squad to the state championship and amassed 19 points and 19 rebounds in the title game to earn MVP honors.

how long ago was 1959?Dartmouth made its first postseason appear-

Dartmouth vs. Maine — Dec. 8, 201822

Dartmouth 114newbury 39

Hanover, N.H. — Nov. 6, 2018

Dartmouth scored its second-most points ever while setting program records with 22 3-pointers and 31 assists in a 114-39 win over Division III New-bury. Brendan Barry had a career-high 26 points on 8-of-10 long balls to lead five players in double figures, and Chris Knight recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior James Foye also had a career night, doubling his previous best with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with four 3-pointers to go with eight rebounds. Adrease Jackson came off the bench to produce 14 points and nine boards, and rookie Wes Slajchert displayed his long-distance prowess by knocking down 4-of-6 from the perimeter for 12 points to go with five assists.

The teams traded triples to start the night, but Dartmouth quickly erased any doubt about the outcome of this one by scoring 28 of the next 30 points for a 31-5 lead.

Barry answered the next Nighthawk bucket by scoring the next 11 Big Green points in an 80-sec-ond span thanks to a trio of 3-pointers. By the inter-mission, he had 20 points, and Dartmouth did not slow down in the second half, matching its first-half total of 11 treys to help produce the second-largest winning margin in Big Green history.

DAVIDSON 79DARTMOUTH 76

Davidson, N.C. — Nov. 9, 2018

The Dartmouth men’s basketball team led by as many as 12 points in the second half at Davidson and still had a three-point advantage into the final minute, but the host Wildcats staved off the upset to take a 79-76 victory over the Big Green.

Dartmouth hit 15-of-33 3-pointers while hold-ing Davidson to just 4-of-18 outside the arc. But a Carter Collins triple from the corner in front of the Wildcats’ bench tied the game with 53.7 seconds left, and Kellan Grady hit three free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining after being fouled on a 3-point attempt to give Davidson its first lead since the score was 26-24 with under six minutes left in the first half.

After calling a timeout at halfcourt with 2.7 seconds to go, Dartmouth drew up a play to free Brendan Barry, who hit 8-of-10 triples in the season opener on Tuesday and was perfect in three at-tempts on the night. The cross-court pass to Chris Knight was immediately fed to Barry, who looked to be open on the far wing, but Collins closed fast enough to get a piece of the ball and send it off course, preserving the win for the ’Cats.

Ian Sistare had a career-high five 3-pointers in just six tries to match his personal best of 15 points, while Adrease Jackson led the Big Green with 16 points and eight rebounds while replacing an injured Will Emery in the starting lineup.

Baltimore, Md. — Nov. 11, 2018

Dartmouth fought off host Loyola (Md.) and survived a last-second 3-point attempt to defeat the Greyhounds at Reitz Arena, 82-80. Adrease Jackson and Chris Knight each recorded career highs with 25 and 19 points, respectively, to help the Big Green earn their first road win of the season.

As a team, the Big Green were 13-of-23 (.565) from the perimeter, giving them 50 3-pointers over the first three games.

Dartmouth led for nearly the entire game and by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Grey-hounds nipped at the Big Green’s heels until they took a 72-71 lead with 3:56 to play on a layup by KaVaughn Scott. Knight answered with bucket in the paint, however, to reclaim the lead.

The lead would change four more times and the score would be tied twice more until James Foye rebounded his own miss and was fouled going back up. His free throws hit nothing but net for an 81-79 lead with 1:29 remaining.

In the waning seconds, Andrew Kostecka put up a 3-pointer that was off the mark, and Brendan Barry was fouled after securing the rebound with 6.4 seconds on the clock. He canned the first free throw, but the second hit the back iron.

Chuck Champion hit the first of two foul shots with 2.2 seconds left, but the rebound on the sec-ond went out of bounds off of a Big Green player. It did not come back to haunt Dartmouth as a 3-point attempt at the buzzer hit the side of the backboard, finally ending the game with the Green on top.

23Dartmouth vs. Maine — Dec. 8, 2018

Dartmouth 100elmS College 54Hanover, N.H. — Nov. 13, 2018

Dartmouth continued its early-season, long-distance prowess by dropping 13 treys on Division III Elms College in a 100-54 victory. James Foye led five players in double figures with 16 points with four of the long balls, while the Ians — Carter and Sistare — each had 15 points.

All 11 active players on the Big Green roster got into the scoring act with Foye knocking down 6-of-10 field goals and 4-of-7 from deep.

Even with the lopsided score, it was Elms that jumped out to an early lead thanks to hitting three of its first four shots from behind the arc. Dart-mouth quickly made up the 11-3 deficit with a trio of 3-pointers, the last by Brendan Barry to knot the score at 14.

A Foye jumper at the free throw line not only broke an 18-18 deadlock, it started a 16-0 run from which the Big Green did not look back. By halftime, Dartmouth held a 41-22 advantage.

After the first six minutes or so of the second stanza, head coach David McLaughlin went to his bench almost exclusively, including walk-on Ben Swett who scored his first collegiate points.

Buffalo, N.Y. — Nov. 21, 2018

Ian Sistare came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points in Dartmouth’s first game against a ranked opponent in two years, but No. 22 Buffalo had five players score in double figures and pulled away in the second half to defeat the Big Green.

Playing without star guard C.J. Massingame did not slow the Bulls down as they ran out to a 15-0 lead. Dartmouth misfired on its first eight shots before Sistare entered and ended the run by driving to the rim for a layup five minutes into the contest.

That bucket jump-started the Big Green offense with Sistare scoring 16 points in a five-minute span. Knight followed with a three-point play to suddenly close the gap to three at 29-26 with 9:49 still to play before the intermission. But after a Buffalo timeout, the hosts outscored the Green, 21-10, over the last eight minutes of the half to take a 55-39 lead into the locker room.

Sisatare (18) and Knight (13) accounted for 31 of Dartmouth’s points in the first 20 minutes.

Buffalo boosted its lead to 24 on an 11-3 burst to start the second half. A couple of 3-pointers by Brendan Barry and Taurus Samuels briefly slowed the Bulls, but they scored the next nine points and extended its lead to 30 at 83-53 on a fast-break layup — two of 31 fast-break points for Buffalo. The deficit peaked at 41 before settling at the final score.

DARTMOUTH 65San Francisco, Calif. — Nov. 24, 2018

Dartmouth quickly shaved an eight-point halftime deficit down to three in the first minute of the second half, but San Francisco went on a 15-0 run en route to an 84-65 victory. Frankie Ferrari led the Dons with a season-high 19 points, while Chris Knight paced Dartmouth with 15.

Ferrari scored the first seven points to give the hosts an early lead, but Knight added eight straight points of his own, making it a 12-10 game.

Freshman Taurus Samuels gave Dartmouth one of its only leads of the afternoon at 21-20 by raining in a 3-pointer from the right wing. The two teams traded buckets with Guilien Smith and Ian Sistare dropping layups to keep the Green up one, but when Charles Minlend ripped the net from deep, USF went up four, 29-25, and never trailed again.

Trailing 42-34 to start the second half, Dartmouth got a bucket by Smith and a triple by Adrease Jackson to close the gap to three. The Big Green got the ball back twice with a chance to pos-sibly tie the game, but could not convert.

Shortly thereafter, the Dons went on their 15-point run over a four-minute span until Knight broke the spell. That bucket was two of just six points over a 12-minute span for Dartmouth, so its six 3-pointers in the final 5:20 were not nearly enough.

MARIST 76Dartmouth 58

Belfast, Northern Ireland — Nov. 29, 2018

Dartmouth shrunk a 20-point deficit down to seven with fewer than five minutes to play, but Marist withstood the run and defeated the Big Green in the first game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic, 76-58. Brian Parker led the Red Foxes (2-4) with 18 points and six assists, while Chris Knight had 16 points and seven rebounds to pace Dartmouth.

Trailing 56-36 after Marist opened the second half on a 15-5 surge, the Big Green slowly fought their way back into the game, whittling the deficit down to 13 at 58-45 on a Brendan Barry 3-pointer, the 100th of his career, with still 12:47 remaining.

Knight kept Dartmouth within 13 with his putback dunk four minutes later, only to have David Knudsen knock down his second triple of the second stanza to make it a 63-47 Red Fox lead. Freshman Taurus Samuels popped a long ball of his own to spark an 11-2 Big Green run as Knight pro-vided six of those points, making it a 65-58 contest with 4:27 on the clock.

But Marist held Dartmouth scoreless the rest of the game, tallying the final 11 points to seal the deal. Parker started that scoring with a basket in the paint then converted the second of two free throws. Marist sank its final six foul shots, boosting their final total at the line to 14-of-15 (.933).

Brendan Barry put on a long-distance clinic, drilling seven 3-pointers as Dartmouth sank a total of 17 to defeat Albany in the consolation game of the Samson Division of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic. Barry finished with 25 points for the Big Green while James Foye and Chris Knight both set career highs with 20 points apiece.

Adrease Jackson got the fireworks started with a triple on Dartmouth’s first shot of the game and Barry rained down his first attempt on the next possession. Knight took over for the next three minutes, tallying eight straight points for a 14-9 lead five minutes in.

Knight’s last bucket started a 17-0 run for the Big Green as the 3-pointers started to come more quickly. Foye and Will Emery hit long balls, followed by Barry and Foye again before Knight capped the four-minute outburst with three points the traditional way, and suddenly Dartmouth sported a 20-point lead at 29-9.

The lead reached as many as 28 points when Barry drove to the rim for a layup, making it a 43-15 contest with just under seven minutes remaining in the half.

The Great Danes were able to cut that deficit in half to 14 on several occasions, but never got any closer.

Chris Knight poured in a career-high 23 points, but Cameron Young countered with 21 as visiting Quinnipiac defeated Dartmouth in a back-and-forth affair that featured 18 lead changes. The Bobcats snapped a two-game slide, while the Big Green lost for the first time on its home court this season.

Early in the opening half, Knight provided eight straight points to keep Dartmouth tied at 13. A short while later, Knight and Taurus Samuels — who finished with a season-high 12 points — added baskets to give the Green a 19-15 advantage, its largest lead of the evening. But the Bobcats outscored Dartmouth over the final 4:33 of the half by a 12-3 margin to take a five-point lead into the locker room at 27-22.

Knight gave Dartmouth a 49-48 lead on a buck-et in the paint, and Samuels added a free throw to put the Green up two, 50-48, with 5:06 remaining in the game. But Kevin Marfo scored on a putback of a missed 3-pointer that started a 9-0 Quinnipiac run that lasted nearly four minutes.

Samuels ended the scoring drought with 1:09 to play, and Dartmouth was able to close the gap to three, 59-56, on a Brendan Barry layup with 27 sec-onds left. The Bobcats doubled that lead by hitting 3-of-4 at the line, but Samuels drained a three with 4.9 seconds to go.
