BIG CHANGES COMING TO SOUTHBOUND MOPAC AT ENFIELD ROAD! To make room for the future southbound Express Lane all existing MoPac lanes are being shifted into a new alignment that is to the right of the current MoPac lanes. The realignment will occur just south of Enfield Road. The new MoPac lanes will pass over a newly constructed Express Lane underpass/ exit to downtown Austin. After crossing over the underpass, drivers will be able to exit at a new Cesar Chavez/5th Street exit. The current temporary Cesar Chavez/5th Street exit will be closed. The changes will be subtle and some drivers may not even notice them. Anyone wishing to continue south on MoPac should simply stay in the center or left lane like they do today. The right lane will exit to Cesar Chavez/5th Street just like it does today. Drivers in the center lane will have the option to exit at Cesar Chavez/5th Street if they wish to or they can continue south on MoPac just like they do now. The Cesar Chavez/5th Street exit will simply be in a new location that is a little further south. The traffic shift is tentatively scheduled to occur overnight on Tuesday, November 1, if circumstances permit.
