I know, I know there are not 6 million bicycles in Bucharest... but can you imagine how it would be? At least a million and we would be more than happy, don’t you think?

Right now the streets of our capital city are invaded by cars, and sadly few people are using the bicycle to go to work or to school. Riding the bicycle should become a lifestyle because those 2 wheels are the meaning of freedom. I am positive that we can identify lots of reasons for using the bike, but the most common one is that it keeps you fit. A little exercise harms nobody, as I remember. As an extra bonus you will feel the “happiness of the biker” and most probability you will become addicted.

It was really delightful to see a bicycle boom this spring. More and more, they are easily seen on the street, people of all ages riding their own or rented ones. It’s good to see that several “rent a bike” centers are open in parks or other high traffic areas. More and more people prefer this locomotion mean, even though on Sundays you have to wait in line for the afternoon ride. So, the recipe is simple, either you buy your own bicycle, or you rent one.

What’s next, you may wonder? Start the adventure on the roads of Bucharest and on the cycling tracks. Please, don’t tell me you go riding in the park! You are a true biker, and your route will be hard and full of ordeals. You will have to face the cars parked on the cycling tracks, the crazy drivers, the dogs and... the pedestrians. Yes, people that still don’t have the necessary mentality and “space” for the bikers, but hey, we are the ones able to change that. It is worth trying.

From another point of view, the urban and cultural context in which the cycling is developing stands for this new lifestyle. The only way out for two-wheels is to become the alternative to cars. For this numerous NGOs, clubs, institutions that promote the eco-friendly alternative, along with pioneers of the new urban lifestyle are struggling.

As a conclusion, to run on wheels we need to think positive and hope that soon the urban architects will join this great way of living and will come up with permanent solutions for the crowded future.
