1. PoliticsI remember learning about the Magna Carta in elementary school and being awed by the impact the document has had on modern politics. It blows my mind that now, I can view the original document and accompanying transcripts and documentaries all from my eReader or my laptop. I can even follow the progression of politics all the way to World War I.
3. Medicine As a former EMT, I know a good bit about medicine, but this Anthology taught me what medicine was like all the way back in the 1200s. It’s fascinating to see how medical science progressed from the days of quack doctors and apothecaries. I loved reading original letters from people like Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale.
2. Daily Life: 1700 –1750I grew up loving the BBC, so I always wanted to live in London. This collection made me wonder what it would be like to live there in the 18th century. I got a glimpse into daily life: where I’d have bought breakfast, what newspaper I’d have read while eating it and how I would have minded my manners when speaking with others.
The British Library Common Core Learning Module provides a history of the world by theme. The timeline setup makes it easy to see the progression of things like entertainment, poetry and daily life over hundreds of years. Accessing history on BiblioBoard brings users full circle—viewing the best of yesterday’s archives on the best of today’s technology. The Common Core-aligned Teaching Guides that correspond to each Anthology make it easy to integrate this magnificent collection into existing curricula.Favorites

Every year, a class reads The Scarlet Letter, and every year, part of my budget is spent replacing the copies that were destroyed in the bottom of backpacks. With BiblioBoard, I’ll never again have to do that.

I’ve been teaching for over a decade, so I’ve had a front-row seat for all of the changes public schooling has undergone. When I started, I didn’t even have a cell phone, but now, all my fifth graders have smart phones and tablets and even laptops. It’s been a challenge to integrate technology into the classroom in a way that is productive (not disruptive) and educational (not distracting). I’ve found BiblioBoard to be an ideal solution, especially because it works on all tablet devices and Internet browsers, and it allows everyone to read along at once.
Of course, as soon as I feel comfortable with technology, the next challenge arises: the Common Core. At first, I had my doubts, but looking into the guidelines led me to believe that the biggest problem is finding a way to make sure everything I’m teaching complies with the standards.
What I love about BiblioBoard’s educational content is the way it artfully pairs primary source
content vital for topics I teach with Common Core guidelines for various ages.Take Christopher Columbus: A Historical Cotllection, for example. Columbus’ discovery of America is a key part of the Early America unit I teach, so I love the documents of Columbus’ notes. Further, the Anthology contains broader histories of both the man and the places he visited, putting the voyages into context. With videos and images alongside the books and articles, there’s content my students will really enjoy.
On top of all this, I can scroll all the way to the right and read the Teachers’ Guides for overviews, vocabulary, discussion questions and tasks for reading, writing, speaking/listening and vocabulary. The guides even list which Common Core standards this particular Anthology meets. This, on top of the fantastic content, makes it easy to fill my classroom with the technology kids love and the content they need to learn.
