A Review of Some Biblical Miracle

    John 2:1-12

Jesus had just chosen special men to follow Him and be His friends. Two days later, Jesus and

His new friends went to a wedding, or a celebration kind of like a birthday partyexcept it's aparty for a man and woman who are getting married.

Jesus' mother Mary, whom He loved very much, was also at the wedding in the town ofGalilee. Mary came to her Son, Jesus, and told Him about a problem: Just like a birthday party

usually has cake, a wedding in Jesus' time usually had a special drink called wine. But the

guests, or people at the wedding, drank the wine, and it was all gone. Mary asked Jesus for His

help. He answered, "Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come"(John 2:4).

Even though Mary did not understand Jesus' answer, she told the servants, or helpers, to listen

to Jesus and do what He said.

On the table, there were six jugs used for holding water. Jesus told the servants to fill each jugwith water. Then, He asked them to dip a cup into the jug and take some of the drink to the

man who was in charge of the wedding.

(The servants knew that Jesus had turned the water into wine, but the man in charge did not

    know it.)

The man in charge drank some of the drink and said to the man getting married, "This is

wonderful stuff! You're different from most. Usually a host uses the best wine first, andafterwards, when everyone is full and doesn't care, then he brings out the [kind of wine that is

not that good]. But you have kept the best for the last!" (John 2:10TLB).

This was the very first miracle, or event that seems impossible to explain, that Jesus ever did.

His new friends now believed that He was sent by God to save the world from their sin, or thebad things we think about, do, and say.

After the wedding, Jesus went with His mother, brother, and friends to a different city calledCapernaum.

    Q. What do you mean by a Miracle?

    A. A Miracle is the manifestation of a supernatural Power controlling, in some degree, the Common

    or established laws of nature.

The Death and Re-birth of Lazarus

    John 11:145

Mary and Martha were sisters, and their brother, Lazarus, was

very sick. Mary and Martha knew Jesus could make Lazarusbetter. So that's what they asked Jesus to come and do.

Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, but He did not go seethem right away. After two days, He went to see them, but

    Lazarus had died by then.

Mary and Martha were very sad. They could not understand why

Lazarus died. They could not understand why Jesus did not come

to make him better right away.

Jesus was sad that Lazarus died too. He cried with Mary andMartha. But Jesus had a plan. That is why He did not make

Lazarus better when Mary and Martha asked Him to.

Jesus told Mary and Martha that He would bring Lazarus back tolife, even though Lazarus had died and been buried behind a big

    rock.

Jesus told people to move the big rock where Lazarus had beenburied. When the rock was moved, Jesus thanked God. Then He

    said, "Lazarus, come out!"

Lazarus came out and was alive again! Everyone was very

happy. Many people believed Jesus was the Son of God becauseof how He made Lazarus alive again.

Jesus cared about Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. He cares aboutyou too!

    Luke 17:11-19 (New International Version)

    Ten Healed of Leprosy

11Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between

Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had

    leprosy[a]

met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice,"Jesus, Master, have pity on us!"

14When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And asthey went, they were cleansed.

15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a

loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked himand he was aSamaritan.

17Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Was

no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19Thenhe said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

    Matthew 8:5-13

    The Faith of the

Centurion5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for

help. 6"Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible

    suffering."

7Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him."

    8The centurion replied, "Lord, I

do not deserve to have you comeunder my roof. But just say the

word, and my servant will behealed. 9For I myself am a man

    under authority, with soldiers

under me. I tell this one, 'Go,'and he goes; and that one,

'Come,' and he comes. I say tomy servant, 'Do this,' and he

    does it."

10When Jesus heard this, he wasastonished and said to those

following him, "I tell you thetruth, I have not found anyone in

Israel with such great faith. 11I

say to you that many will comefrom the east and the west, and

will take their places at the feastwith Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in

    the kingdom of heaven. 12But

the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, wherethere will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

13Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it

would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.

    Exodus 14:5-31

From Egypt, God sent the Israelites south, to avoid possible conflicts with the Philistines. They

were on the edge of the Red Sea when the Egyptian army ran them down. The Israelites were afraid

because they were trapped against the sea and the Egyptians had a well trained army with chariots

and horses. Moses told the Israelites to "be still" for "The Lord will fight for you." Is there a single

army that can stand against God? No. Does God need our help to defeat his enemies. No.

The angel of the Lord and the pillar of cloud stood between the two groups. The cloud lit up the

night. Neither camp approached the other. God told Moses to lift his staff and hold it over the sea.

While Moses did this, God sent an East wind to blow against the sea. Soon there was dry land forthe Israelites to cross over upon, and walls of water on both sides. The Israelites crossed over.

By morning, the Egyptians chose to follow the Israelites. They brought their fancy chariots, but God

clogged the wheels so they would not turn. They began to realize they were fighting against God.

God told Moses to stretch out his hand over the sea, that it might return to its normal depth. When

he did this, every single Egyptian soldier and all their chariots were destroyed in the sea.

When the Israelites saw they were saved, they sang praises to God. Miriam (Moses' sister) led the

women in praises to God in song.

    JONAH WAS

    SWALLOWED BY

    A GREAT FISH.

    WHY?

God requested that Jonah go toNineveh and deliver a specialwarning to the people, but Jonahhad other ideas! So, Jonah boarded a ship going to Tarshish, the OPPOSITE direction, hoping to escape

    God and His request!

But, as the ship was sailing along, the LORD created a very powerful wind that flung the ship violently andthreatened to sink it!. (Jonah 1:4)

All on board was terrified, and the men began shouting and praying to their gods. (Jonah 1:5) (During all ofthis, Jonah was peacefully sleeping.)

"How can you sleep at a time like this?"(the captain shouting at Jonah). "Get up and pray to your god!Maybe he will have mercy on us and spare our lives."(Jonah 1:6)

As the storm worsened, the crew decided to cast lots, to see which of them had offended the gods and

caused the terrible storm. Jonah lost the toss!

"What have you done to bring this awful storm down on us?" they demanded. "Who are you? What is yourline of work? What country are you from? What is your nationality?"

And Jonah answered, "I am a Hebrew, and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, Who made the sea andthe land."Then he told them that he was running away from the LORD! (Jonah 1:8-10)

This terrified the sailors even more. "Oh, why did you do it?"they groaned, as the storm worsened. "Whatshould we do to you to stop this storm?"(Jonah 1:10-11)

Jonah suggested they throw him into the sea! "For I know that this terrible storm is all my fault."

The sailors tried harder to row the boat through the tumultuous waters, but the storm raged on, and becamemore violent.

They prayed to God, Jonah's God, for forgiveness for what they were about to do; that He would not holdthem responsible for Jonah's death. "O LORD, you have sent this storm upon him for your own goodreasons."Then they tossed Jonah into the raging waters. (Jonah 1:14-15)

The storm stopped IMMEDIATELY! Awestruck, the sailors offered a sacrifice and they praised God andvowed to serve Him.

Daniel, as a young man anda faithful Hebrew, was taken captive to Babylon. During the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar Daniel

interpreted a dream for the king with the help of God! As a reward the King gave Daniel a place ofhonor as ruler over the kingdom for he saw that Daniel was very wise.

After many years, Babylon was captured by the Medes and Persians and King Darius was theruler. He liked and trusted Daniel and made him his chief ruler! This made the others in high placesvery jealous of Daniel and they plotted against him.

They knew that Daniel prayed 3 times a day for he would open his window toward Jerusalem andprayed to God.These nobles thought that in Daniels's prayers they could find a chance to do him harm and evencause him to be put to death.

Therefore, they tricked King Darius into signing a law that no one could pray to any god for thirtydays and if they did, they would be punished by putting them in a den of lions!

Daniel continued to pray three times a day with his window opened. He did not try to hide and prayin secret!

The nobles saw him praying and went before the king telling him about Daniel and he would haveto put Daniel in the lion's den!

The king was very displeased with himself and tried to save Daniel but he was not successful for itwas a law that no one pray to any god. They put Daniel in the lion's den!

God shut the mouths of the lions and they were his pets!

During the night King Darius did not sleep but prayed to Daniel's God. He came early the nextmorning and found Daniel alive enjoying his pet lions! The king was so happy and told his kingdomthat Daniel's God had saved him.

Then the King ordered the nobles who had planned to put Daniel in the lion's den were thrown intothe same den of lions. They were torn to pieces for their mouths were now opened!

    Genesis 8: Raven and Dove

The storm cleared, and after a hundred and fifty days the waters of the flood were gone. Themountains again were seen, and the ark rested on the mountain tops. Noah opened the window of

the ark and sent out birds, first a raven and then a dove, to see if the waters had gone. The raven, a

big black bird with a harsh voice, flew back and forth over the waters until they dried up. The dovewhen first sent out found no place to light, and came back to Noah in the evening. The next time she

brought back an olive leaf in her mouth. And the third time she did not come back, for the ground

was dry. Then Noah uncovered the ark and the people and the animals from the ark came out to findhappy homes. Noah worshiped; the Lord was pleased with his worship and promised that there

should not again be a flood to destroy all things.
