Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our MissionAs a people in the Roman Catholic tradition, called together by Christ, we seek to grow in faith, hope and love. We gather to be fed and healed by Word and Sacrament, which strengthens us to build Christ’s Kingdom on earth and sustains us on our pilgrim way to heaven. Through our call to evangelize we invite all to join us on our journey of faith as we serve, teach, proclaim and give witness to the Gospel of Jesus.

“May Jesus live in all our hearts.” St. Julie Billiart

ADULT FAITH AND SPIRITUALITY

Faith Filled Adults

Today we will hear the prophet Ezekiel use a

technique called allegory in our first proclamation.

This allegory addresses a political situation (which is

often the case).

Hearing this text without understanding allegory one

runs the risk of drawing the conclusions that Ezekiel is

prophesying about forestry. Here is what you need to

know: The cedar is King Zedekiah, the last king of

Judah, a puppet ruler. Jerusalem owes its recapture

and destruction in 586 BC to Zedekiah. Zedekiah was

a coward. The tender shoot or sprig is Jehoiachin,

Zedekiah’s nephew, who thanks to uncle Zed, is now in

exile in Babylon.

God is the God of reversal, through the prophet God

tells us that he will make high that which was low and

low that which is high. We hear in this proclamation

that God will assert his design for Israel and that all

nations will acknowledge God’s sovereignty. Upon

reflection, we recognize that God’s saving plan is alive

in our world then and today. Paula Raposo, Pastoral Associate

WE COMMEND TO GOD... and remember in prayer the soul of our recently de-

ceased parishioner Violet Powell. Eternal rest grant

unto her, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her.

Mrs. Powell is the mother of Fr. Bob Powell, who

served at St. Julie’s for many years. Expression of

sympathy can be sent to Fr. Bob and his family at 110

A Blessing for Fathers

God and Father of all creation, we come before you

today with humble hearts. You are our model of a

loving father. When we fail and fall short of your

expectations, you are always there at the end of the

day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes

of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to

give up.

We hold up these men in our midst who act in the

world as fathers to their children or models of fathers

for others. Bless them in their moments of doubt and

frustration with their children. Give them warm and

open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the

words needed for encouragement and perseverance.

We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
