We have been working in Liberia and Guinea since 2005 and recently signed a Mineral Development Agreement in respect of four exploration lease areas in Liberia. Our Liberian deposits are an attractive suite of investments which, when combined with our interests in Guinea, have the potential to form the backbone of a world class cluster of mines around an integrated rail and port infrastructure. The continuing growth of our West Africa business has resulted in a number of exciting and challenging employment opportunities. We currently employ more than 300 people in Liberia and equal numbers across the SMFG Joint Venture in Guinea. We are now recruiting a number of specialist positions in Liberia, which include; Project Geologist (Job Number 677050) We are seeking motivated Geologists to work with our Liberian geology team to manage the identification and definition of Iron Ore resources in Liberia. You will manage safety aspects of exploration programs, including participating in safety meetings, carrying out audits, and leading best-practice safety and participate in the evaluation of all iron ore opportunities in Liberia including; drilling, sampling, geological mapping, and geological interpretation. You will ensure quality assurance over sampling, exploration data recording, entering and validation. You will also supervise field geological technicians and drilling earthmoving contractors. To be considered, you must have a tertiary qualification in geology, with a minimum of 3-5 years experience within large exploration/ mining companies in bulk commodities, preferably iron ore. You will also have experience in supervision of drilling programs and demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety. Senior Project Geologist (Job Number 670549) We have an opportunity in our Liberian Exploration team for a Senior Project Geologist to manage, identify and define iron ore resources in Liberia. As a senior member of the geology team will identify and document iron ore targets provincially and on BHP Billiton Iron Ore leases including identifying field exploration targets and supervising and managing drill contractors to execute against the identified targets. Experience working on a major mining or infrastructure project would be a strong advantage, and 5 years working as a superintendent site services & logistics. You will have managed EPCM contractors and vendors and have a good understanding of project financials and the cost management process.

You will be responsible for supervising the exploration team in identification and definition of these resources. As a functional leader on site, you will also play an important role in supporting the Manager Exploration by demonstrating high standards of personal and team behaviour at all times, including health and safety practices. You will be responsible for the planning, implementing and interpreting drilling programmes, including target testing, detailed resource and reserve drilling and drilling to test physical properties of the ore, and you will provide leadership, supervision, technical support and mentoring, including training and development, to a team of local geoscientists

To be considered, you must have a tertiary qualification in geology and demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety. You will have experience within large exploration/ mining companies in bulk commodities, preferably iron ore. You will also have at least 5 years experience as a superintendent geology and in supervision of exploration programs. Your collaborative approach, strong integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity will further ensure your fit for this role. French language skills will also be and advantage but are not essential.

Senior Project Manager(Job Number 673155)

An opportunity exists for a Senior Project Manager to play a key leadership role in developing our ongoing interests in West Africa. Leading a Project Owners' team, you will establish an effective and efficient Project Management Office and manage the delivery of the project to budget and plan together with other functional and implementation managers. You will manage certain advance NPI projects such as office space and residences in Monrovia, employee housing, hospitals / clinics, schools, construction / operation camps, and general in-country administration and participate in the project risk management process and implement and maintain a project quality management plan. You will manage the interface with the EPCM contractor and also manage the selection and hiring of contractors and provide key input to the ongoing strategies for future development of the West African Iron Ore group

To be considered, you will hold a relevant degree qualification in a mining related, engineering or project manager related discipline, and at least 10 years experience in project management of large multi billion dollar mining or infrastructure projects is highly regarded. You will have proven success in project management and execution, experience in managing budgets and an understanding the cost management process. Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well to people at all levels, communicating confidently to establish rapport. Your strengths lie in your ability to build relationships across levels and locations within a business, and you ability to deal with ambiguity. French language skills will be considered advantageous but are not essential.

Manager Earthworks(Job Number 673153)

An opportunity exists for an experienced Manager Earthworks to play a key leadership role, overseeing and project managing all earthworks, road construction activities and drill pad preparation work for our Liberian projects. Providing technical expertise, you will manage the earthworks team and ensure that all national employees are being adequately supervised, trained and mentored. You will develop, implement and ensure compliance with HSEC procedures and systems associated with the exploration drilling program within the Liberian project and develop, negotiate and manage contracts with heavy equipment maintenance contractors. Ensure that frequent environmental inspections of the Liberian project areas occur and work to ensure the successful rehabilitation of disturbed areas and reliable and acceptable data analysis is delivered and effectively catalogued.Ideally you will have a relevant degree in either civil or mining engineering or project management or related discipline, a minimum of 5 years experience as an Earthworks Manager. Experience working on a major mining or infrastructure project in developing countries, preferably in Africa, would be a strong advantage. You will have extensive experience in contractor management and have a good understanding of project financials and the cost management process. French language skills will be considered advantageous but are not essential.

Head of External Affairs(Job Number 669406)

The Head of External Affairs Liberia will work as BHP Billiton's representative in Liberia. As an ambassador and advocate for the company, you will play the main role in building and maintaining the BHP Billiton brand in the country through optimising and maintaining strong relationships with the government of Liberia, international diplomatic corporations, multilateral institutions and NGOs. You will also support the development of new business, co-ordinating and facilitating the company's commercial interests, while upholding theBHP Billiton values as well as governance and operating standards. Constantly monitoring and analysing political, security, socio-economic situations, you will provide input into in country and project risk assessment and crisis management to help protect BHP Billiton's interests in country.Candidates should hold a degree in a mining, engineering or a business related discipline and have at least 10 years professional experience in a leadership or senior management role. Experience operating in a growing and complex business environment, involvement in government and community relations and contract negotiation and management will be highly regarded. You will have managed budgets and have an understanding of the cost management process. You will be motivated, a strong relationship builder with excellent communications skills and have the ability to deal with ambiguity. French language skills will be considered advantageous but are not essential.
