By the time that children enter Year 3 they are more than ready for the new challenges and opportunities that the next stage brings them. At BHHS we recognise that the curriculum should offer breadth for our girls to benefit from an enhanced provision, where the girls are at the centre of what we do.

From Year 3 the curriculum broadens and we believe that having specialist teachers, specialist rooms and resources is essential to develop each girl’s potential. At BHHS we recognise that in all areas pupils benefit from inspirational staff that bring a passion for their subject and help to challenge and engage their pupils. A large, well equipped Music Room supports a huge range of musical opportunities and is complimented with extensive support from specialist music teachers. Our extensive Science Room with purpose built facilities means that the Science curriculum is focussed on practical skills and developing independent learning, whilst our Art and Design studio incorporates a kiln for ceramics and design technology facilities.

Our sports facilities include netball courts and a large Astroturf. All girls have the opportunity to get involved in netball, hockey, rounders, running and athletics and an extensive range of inter-school matches which are organised in a number of age ranges. Swimming, gymnastics and dance are also enjoyed within the curriculum and as extra-curricular opportunities.

I.T. is totally integrated into learning and not only is there extensive use of a large I.T. suite, but increasing amounts of mobile technology.

Spanish and French are taught by specialist teachers and their “hands on” approach is supported with extensive role play and I.T. based activities.

In Years 3-6 the girls move to specialist rooms and we believe that not only do they benefit from specialist teaching and facilities, but that they become more resilient, organised and independent.

BHHS offers the stability and assurance of quality through its membership of the Girls’ Day School Trust which is a nationwide network of some 24 girls’ schools. The majority of our girls move though to the Senior School located on Montpelier Road. The shared ethos and the continuation of the girls only approach make it very attractive to girls and parents alike. Junior School girls have the best possible preparation for the Senior School with many of them sitting and winning scholarships. Bursaries into Year 7 are also available.

The Year 3 day is between 8:30am – 3:30pm, term time only (with drop off time from 8am and pick up time until 4pm). Breakfast is available from 7:30am and after school care until 6pm, both at an additional cost. Holiday clubs are also available by other providers, again at an additional cost.

A healthy nutritional lunch, cooked on our premises, is provided.
