WHAT’S INSIDE It’s that time of year again! Twice a year, BGSIG distributes a newsletter providing information about
upcoming conferences, highlights of recent behavioral gerontology publications, and spotlights on behavioral-
friendly programs. The current newsletter features information from the ABAI 2011 business meeting, ABAI 2012 call for papers,

BGSIG GrowsThe number of members attending the annual business meeting has increased from 8 in 2009 to 27 members in Denver!
Since March 2011, BGSIG has been on Facebook and Twitter. We currently have 60 Facebook likes and 26 Twitter followers!
Student Researcher AwardEvery year the Behavioral
Gerontology SIG provides one student researcher with a cash award for $50 at the ABAI conference.
Congratulations to Ryan Gutterson, this year’s Student Researcher winner. Ryan presented a talk entitled “Training Caregivers of Elders with Dementia who Exhibit Challenging Behavior to Take a Functional Approach” at the 37th annual ABAI conference in Denver, CO.
Ryan graduated in December 2010 from California State University, LA with an M.S. in Counseling, specializing in applied behavior analysis. He’s beginning
an MBA program in the fall at UCLA’s Anderson School of Business, hoping to focus on OBM.
Ryan was first interested in aging research after having a
conversation on the behavioral variables influencing “sundowning.” He is a recent member of the SIG and is looking for future collaboration with fellow behavioral gerontologists.Ultimately, Ryan would like to own and operate a business that
provides behavioral services to a variety of consumers, including older adults.

Call for Papers:To mark the 30th anniversary of the publication of the seminal paper on the functional analysis, JABA is announcing a call for papers. A special section of the Winter 2012 issue will be dedicated to research articles, reports, and discussion or review papers on the functional analysis methodology. All papers must be submitted no later than December 21, 2011 to ensure publication in the Winter 2012 issue.
