Whatis the SCFBIThe Self Closing Flood

Barrier (SCFB) is a

unique, effective flooddefence system that has

been protecting PeoPleand property fromfloods caused by tidal,

river and flash floodingfrom heavy rainfall forover a decade.

lts automatic instant reaction to imminent floods has been proven to provide

optimal protection against extreme high water levels'

The SCFB can be builr ro prorecr residential properties and whole communities,

as well as industrial or other strategic areas'

Easy to install and constantly ready to deploy in a flood situation, this innovative system

can be ¡nstalled in any length and uses the rising flood water to deploy.

once fìtted the barrier needs no human intervention or Power source and is

virtually maintenance free,

The patented SCFB has

already received 6 awards:

Gold medal for the best Civil

Technical lnvention in theWorld24e Salon lnternational des lnventions'

Best-suggested solution to a real

problem connected with

improvements of conditions of society

Research Centre Battelle EuroPe.

Most original and creative developed

plan for "Civil Engineering, Public

Works & Constructions"Prince of Monaco.

Nominated for the best invention in

the Netherlands

Bronze medal for construclions

lmpex USA

Nominated for the Dutch National

Millennium Award.

I nstal lation and oPerat¡orì.

The SCFB has been used in many terra¡n locations.

Once the SCFB has been installed, the floating

entrenched wall consisting of polyester is

practically invisible under normal water level

conditions. The wall is reinforced by laminated

steel strips and protected by Kevlar for impact

strength. On top, a steel lid locks in the

entrenchment space under normal (non flood)

conditions.

Once the water rises to approximately l0 cm

beneath the flood level, the basin of the barrier

fills up through a fìlling-pipe in a pit.The

polyester wall rises and floats. As soon as the

basin is totally filled, the closing surface will

"lock" the barrier into a watertight position.

Now the water can rise further withoutflooding the protected area.

Once the water level subsides to a normal

level, the basin is drained through a drain pipe

with non return valves or by a pump. Once the

water has left the basin, the wall returns to itsresting position within the basin. The lid on top

of the wall then closes to Prevent the inflow of

waste or debris.

K.y benefits.

No warning srsrem or warning time required. The serf crosing Frood Barrier(SCFB) rises instantly throughihe rising water level.

The SCFB is not energy driven and operates without any human intervention.

The only tried and resred barrier that has been used rime and rime againaround the world in actual llood events, with a ll}%success rate.

The system offers fut protection !o commerciar and residentiar communitiesas long as necessary or required.

Optimal protection against exlreme high water levels - barrier height up to2.5m and installed to any length.

Designed to last in excess of 50 years. rn its resting position che barrier andits components and seals are fully protected and dån,t wear.

R.emains virtually maintenance free for many years.UK Flood Barriers offers a l0 year inclusivárnr¡ntunon." package oninstallations.

ln its resting position, the barrier is invisible and fully self prorected.

Can be linked to telemetry system for remore monitoring and control (earlywarning system alerts people to its imminent erection).

Cost analys¡s

Cost analysis of the SCFB compared with mobileflood barrier solutions and permanently attendedllood barrier solutions.

ln this analysis mobile (or demountable) flood barriers, permanently attended flood barriers (or hinged lloodgates) as well as the Self Closing Flood Barr¡ãr (SCFB) havebeen assessed for the evenr of Éailure ana.o.pìrea i'n

- -terms of their total annual cost lìgures, as indicared by theDutch Water Board.
