VOLLEYBALL: U18S GRAND PRIXIn the U18s Grand Prix we defeated Tendring 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-7) in the morning to secure our place in the semi-final against Boswells Blaze. Having played them back in December in the semi-final of the U18s National Cup and lost in straight sets, the squad was keen to take revenge and make a final this year.In an epic five set battle Boswells Blaze managed to hold their nerve and win the deciding fifth set 15-11. The match was a fantastic spectacle and Ernest Bevin College, as one of the very few purely school based teams, can be proud of their performance. The Ernest Bevin College squad is: Adam Baiza (C), Cameron Carrington, Kory Bristol, Eric Chao, Arran Simon, Tino Masanga, Sebastian Espin, Ali Ahmed, Kieron Dyer, Toby Shatimehin, Britton Howe, Jordan Robinson. MVP was Toby Shatimehin. We now focus our attention on finishing the league and gaining automatic promotion to Division 2 and also retaining our London Youth Games title in a few months’ time. Finally well done to Cameron Carrington, Adam Baiza, Arran Simon, Ali Ahmed and Dimetrie Grey who all attended the National Junior/ Cadet Camp in Kettering in March.

VOLLEYBALL: LONDON YOUTH GAMESOur volleyball team representing Wandsworth yet again reigned supreme at the London Youth Games male school volleyball finals at UEL Sportsdock on Thursday 12 March. The team were going for a fourth title in a row and showed their quality throughout the day starting with a 25-14 win over Thomas More Catholic from Croydon. They then saw off the challenges of Park High School from Harrow, Redden Court Academy from Havering and Orleans Park from Richmond to book a spot in the final. There they faced a well-drilled Beths Grammar School from Bexley but they proved too strong on the day with a 25-14 victory.Well done to Ali Ahmed 10AQ, Dimetrie Grey 10EJ, Vinojh Kalaiselvan 10ECB, Umang Patel 10ECB, Ebenezer Aduobi 10EJ. Great team effort!

JUDOThe British Schools Championships is the highlight of the year for the younger EBC Judo athletes, this year we entered a relatively inexperienced squad as all of our older pupils are ineligible due to their high competition achievements.Nadir Dafallah 9MJH recently took part in Pre Cadet ranking events which is a step up in difficulty for him. These events helped prepare him for what was a fantastic performance at this year’s national schools championships winning all his matches to scoop the gold medal and national title.Notable performances were also achieved by Ellis Mersh 9TP who fought his way to the bronze final in the under 55kgs category which he lost, never the less Ellis is certainly one to watch for the future.

This year we entered three year seven’s for the first time, Kheireddine Guemmane 7SH, Ayoub Dafallah 7JDB and Zain Choudry 7DD all fought with great tenacity and endeavour winning several matches but not able to get amongst the medallists, no doubt this experience will serve them well in future tournaments. On the following day the older boys attended the English Open event and Adam Adaman 13RCS won a silver medal. Mohammad Alip 12BXB represented England at a European Cup event in Spain and achieved a very creditable 9th place.

Mr Bonti
