    Bettys Life Synopsis

Betty Jean Smith, 80 years, (nee Brown) was called into Gods presence on October 9, 2015.

She was born to Thomas and Georgia Brown (nee Wallace) on September 10, 1935 in RichmondIndiana. The family moved to Columbus when Betty was 3. She was preceded in death by Thomas

Brown, father; Georgia Knight, mother; Eugene Knight, step-father and David Brown, brother. She is

    survived by Robert A. Smith, husband of 57 years; children Robin L. Brown (Terry Brown) of Dayton;

Robert D. Smith (Sumie) of New York City; Darin A. Smith (Kimberly) of Denver and Karl F. Smith,

IV (Valerie) of Cincinnati, William C. Brown(Carol), brother; Edith Wallace, aunt; Aaron J. Smith

(Pat),brother-in law; Ronald A. Smith (Ida), brother-in-law and Carol E. Smith (nee Johnson), sister-

in-law. She had 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Betty attended St. Cyprian Catholic School for 5 years. She also attended Pilgrim Elementary

School and Champion Junior High School. She graduated from East High school in June of 1953.

As told by her, she became fond of a boy, who was 2 years her junior. After 4 years of courtship,Betty married Robert on March 22, 1958. She was a clerical employee of Motorist Mutual, Fort Hayes

Recruiting Center and DCSC until summer of 1961 when she became a homemaker with the birth of

her rst child. In 1992, Betty began her position as a dutiful and cheerful receptionist at Nationwide

Childrens Hospital and retired after 20 years. Many still remember Miss Bettys uplifting words and

    encouraging smile.

In 1947, Bettys mother started attending the Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith under the leadership

of the late Karl F. Smith. At the age of 12, Betty received Christ as her personal Savior. Over

the years, she was active in the Young Peoples Group, the Young Peoples Choir, Couples of

Pentecostal Experience (COPE), shut-in visitation, intercessory prayer and fasting. She also served

as an adult usher and kitchen aide. Betty grew up in a culture in which everyone wore their Sundaynest to church on Sunday morning. The women carried gloves and pocketbooks and wore hats.

Betty knew how to wear her hats and not let the hats wear her. The front of the hat was worn just

above the eyebrow and tilted slightly to one side. She certainly wore her hats with style and grace.

Her Christian membership includes Church of Christ for 30 years, Southeast Mission for 12 years,

Christian Assembly for 25 years and Genoa Baptist for 2 years. She was a woman of deep faith and

    prayer.

Betty was a truly humble, beautiful woman of God. She will be remembered as a dependable and

thoughtful sister, fun and caring friend, loving and devoted wife, and affectionate and dedicated

mother. Many have enjoyed her warmth, listening ear, godly words, and joy. Her devout life has

been a tremendous example to her children and grandchildren which has deeply impacted them.During her life time, her moniker changed from Angel Face, Betty Boop, Mom or Mommy to

Girlfriend. She can be described by the followingOde to a Devout Wife (excerpt from Proverbs

    3:10-31).

Ode to a Devout WifeA good wife who can nd?

She is far more precious than jewels.11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,

and he will have no lack of gain.12 She does him good,

and not harm, all the days of her life.13 She seeks wool and ax,and works with willing hands.

14 She is like the ships of the merchant, she brings her food from afar.

15 She rises while it is yet nightand provides food for her household

    and tasks for her maidens.

16 She considers a eld and buys it;with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

17 She girds her loins with strength

and makes her arms strong.18 She perceives that her merchandise is protable. Her lamp does not go out at night.

19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

20 She opens her hand to the poor, and reaches out her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes herself coverings;her clothing is ne linen and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates,

    when he sits among the elders of the land.24 She makes linen garments and sells them;

she delivers girdles to the merchant.25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,

and she laughs at the time to come.

26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

27 She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her:

29 Many women have done excellently,

but you surpass them all.30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,

but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,

and let her works praise her in the gates.

    Loving you softly;

    Robert

RememberingBetty Jean SmithWe all know that when anyone is taken in death, people who scarcely knew the

person will praise him or her for traits we didnt know they had. Sometimes people

are so lavish in their praise of the one taken from us, we hardly know to whom they

are referring. This is not so with Betty, who was a family-oriented woman, caring

much about the impression she made on her husband and children.

The following traits stood out like a beacon on a high hill in the darkest night

Betty had to be kind and gentle she had a family and she was a child of

    GOD.

She was a straight talker she had a family and she was a child of GOD.

She could speak a gentle, soothing word to a troubled soul she had a family

and she was a child of GOD.

She well-knew the power of prayer she had a family and she was a child ofGOD.

Betty had the above traits, and I can readily attest to them. She was a well loved

person and a staunch child of God .

    Respectfully submitted,

    Aaron J. Smith
