Better Homes, Better Places - Doncaster Housing Strategy 2011-14 We want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to access a quality, affordable home within a sustainable community’ Work is continuing to develop ‘Better Homes, Better Places’ the new Housing Strategy for Doncaster 2011-14 Following consultations we have identified 4 outcomes to improve housing in Doncaster: ¾ Better Quality Homes ¾ Better Housing Choices for People ¾ Better Places to Live ¾ Working Towards Achieving Excellence These form the priorities for both the Housing Strategy and housing elements of the Borough Strategy. These priorities are broad and can apply to all areas of Doncaster. However, there are differences within and between areas and specific local issues – needing local focus and solutions. Our detailed area investment needs and opportunities will be outlined in ‘Better Homes, Better Places’. Progress – August and September 2010 A Consultation Event was held for Members in August A Consultation Event for partners was held in September The housing pages of the Borough Strategy have been drafted and considered by Overview and Scrutiny Committee A Working Group has been set up to look at area priorities and investment needs A Working Group has been set up to look at our knowledge – Evidence Base A draft Housing Priorities document will/has been approved for wide consultation A Consultation Plan has been approved to inform, consult and involve as many people as possible in the development of the Housing Strategy Next steps Formal consultation on Housing Priorities will take place between 1 October and 30 November Details of our proposed Housing Priorities will be sent to members, staff, partners and be available on our website Press releases and further information will be issued to spread the message about our new Housing Strategy More consultation events will be held for Members in October and November Consultations with staff and partners will take place in October An independent organisation will carry our public consultation in November Our future priorities for housing investment will be considered in detail once the impact of the Comprehensive Spending Review is known Results of all consultation responses will be reviewed and a draft new Housing Strategy and Delivery Statements will be drawn up by Christmas 2010 ‘Better Homes, Better Places’ will be adopted in February 2011 and set out housing priorities for 2011-14 ‘Better Homes, Better Places’ supported by our Housing Evidence Base and Housing Area Priorities will be a key element of our Local Investment Plan Learn more and have your say by contacting Mandy Preskey on 01302-737032 or visiting our webpage see link below: Better Homes, Better Places - Housing Strategy Consultation for Doncaster 2011-14
