A Report from your Property Committee
Joan Corbin, Emily Jones, Derrick O’Bradovich, Cameron Greenway, Doug Metzger, Sunny Barr, Clarence Mahoney, and Rick Todd Weddings, Wednesday Night Suppers, Sunday School, Worship, Pioneers, Choir Plus, Bethesda Christian School, Vacation Bible School, Basketball, Bible Studies, Recitals, and those are just a few of the events that have taken place on our campus this Spring and Summer. So what does all this increased activity mean? STRESS! Good stress but stress none the less on our personnel and volunteers, but also on our infrastructure. So with a care-ful eye on our finances and the approval of the Session, the Property Com-mittee has been hard at work on the following project this spring and sum-mer. #1. McArn Hall Improvements. In an effort to better serve the multiple activities that take place in the hall on a day-to-day basis two storage closets were added to accommodate chairs, tables, and equipment etc. A corner cabinet, bulletin board, refreshment bar, shutters, and a new front door com-pleted the project. #2. Sanctuary Painting. After much due diligence and planning the exte-rior painting of the sanctuary is close to completion. Cracks have been sealed, boards replaced, and several coats of fresh white and Charleston Green paint have been added to the exterior of our historic building. #3. Carpet Cleaning and Tile restoration. The sanctuary, Bethesda Christian School, McArn Sunday school rooms, nursery, church offices, and Westminster Hall have all had the carpets cleaned and tile waxed. #4. Bride Room. Painting, sanding/re-staining of the original floor, new shutters, and recovering of existing furniture make the new bride room a real source of pride. Additional improvements to the adjacent bathroom are planned, but will require funding through private donations. Please contact Emily Jones or Joan Corbin if you are interested in contributing to this worthwhile project. #5. Outdoor Storage Building. We have added a 10’x10’ outdoor storage building to help contain and protect the playground equipment (tricycles, buckets, shovels, helmets, toys, etc). Special care was considered to make sure the building fits in nicely with the surrounding Bethesda architectural design. I hope you will find that all of these projects have met the increasing needs of our congregations and that the Property Committee has been good stew-ards with your finances. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask me or any of the property committee members. Sincerely, Marc Jones

Dear Members of Bethesda, Thank you so much for all your caring visits, flowers, food and prayers. I am so blessed to have you all caring for me. God bless you all. Love, Silvia Jonkoff
SACKS OF LOVE
In just a few short weeks our children will be back in school and our Sacks of Love program will again be up and running. Thanks to all who gave during the last school year. We will again serve Camden High School, but this year Lugoff Elgin High School will be served by a church in Elgin. Once school is in session we’ll know how many stu-dents are in need. Our Sacks of Love basket will be in the hall outside Barbara’s office and we hope each of you will think of Sacks of Love when you are shopping and will fill it with donations. As always, your monetary donations are also much needed and much appreciated. Just send your checks to Clara and make a notation for SOL (Sacks of Love). Just a reminder—we need individual portions and these are some of the things we’ll need: juice boxes canned vegetables ramen noodles beanie weenies cookies pudding pasta granola bars 6 pack crackers chips pop tarts canned fruit individual cereals nuts vienna sausages Thank you in advance for your help with this most worthy program. No child deserves to be hungry and every child deserves a chance.
To My Bethesda Family: Everyone has been so wonderful to me during the illness and death of my mother. My family and I appreciate so much all the calls, cards, visits, flowers, offers to help, and especially your prayers. Your love and support have been a source of strength and comfort during this diffi-cult time. I am so thankful and blessed to work and serve in this place with such special people. Clara

They had tons of fun with water, sand, bouncy house and lots of sugary snacks. If was a great way
to pass a hot summer day
(Thanks to Smokin & Grillin for donating their bouncy house for us to use. It was an unexpected
addition to our event. The kids loved it!)

Dear Parents, We are gearing up for a great year of Pioneer Club and Choir Plus! Both of these children’s programs will be on Wednesdays this year. You can sign up your child(ren) for one or both of these programs. Registration will be open for the month of August, and the programs will start on September 14th.
Choir Plus. . .
is a program for children in K5-5th grade and are divided into two groups by age and grade. They
learn vocal and music skills using songs and hymns based on scripture and Christian tradition. They
gain a greater understanding of God's word and their own ability to contribute to the life and
worship of the church. The choirs sing in church on some Sundays throughout the school year and
participate in a musical production each semester. Snack fee for the year is $10 for one child
and $5 for each additional child from the same family.

where your children will learn Christian values, grow spiritually, study, memorize, and apply scrip-
ture, learn practical life skills and develop lifelong Christian friendships. …and have a really great
time doing it! They will receive a club t-shirt and earn badges through bible study and life applica-
tion projects. Supply fee is $25 per child with a $60 family max.

WOW it’s summer and temperatures are still rising – the long hot summer…. May ended with the PW birthday celebration and delicious salad luncheon, thank you Emily Jones and your team for another successful meal. Joan Inabinet, author and retired teacher, was our speaker. Joan and husband, Glen recently published A History of
Kershaw County and she graciously shared stories of women that shaped our county from the early Indian period up to the Revolutionary War. Joan will have to join us again and bring us forward in Kershaw County’s progress. We now have plans for our end-of-the-summer luncheon and hope to have all the women of the church come and enjoy this fellowship. We think it will be fun to focus on visiting with one another and sharing vacation stories. We will also install new officers during the get together. We also congratulate, Dr. Cindy Dieringer on her recent award to the Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership. In her quiet way, Dr. Cindy has helped many of the Bethesda family with medical advice and held numerous positions on the PW Coordinating Team as well as being on the Health Cabinet, member of handbells and the choir. Don’t forget to mark your calendars now! And join us for a goodtime on Tuesday, August 9th at 12 noon in Westminster Hall. We will remind you in the church bulletin as time approaches. In the meantime, have a great, safe summer and save up those vacation stories and share your photos with us.
PW Coordinating Team
There will be no PW Coordinating Team meeting in August. Officers, remember you don’t turn over your posi-tion until September. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6th at 2:30pm in our meeting room in McArn. Please call and let me know if you cannot make it.

Presbyterian Women August 2011
Matthew 18:4 "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child, will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Attention Ladies: Young, middle-age, and mature, we would love to have you join one of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle and study the Beatitudes this year. As you read about each of the beatitudes you might look into your own heart and examine your feelings towards them. Are you trying to follow each one of them? I think you will find that you need a rather humble, almost a childlike attitude towards each one of them if you are to be successful in follow-ing them. We invite you to attend either a morning circle or an afternoon circle. One meets at 10:30am the sec-ond Tuesday of each month and the other meets at 2:30pm the second Tuesday of each month. Circle meetings are held from September to May and at Christmas we have a luncheon and again in May we have a “Birthday” luncheon. Please contact Serena Ogburn, Moderator of PW Women or Mary Catherine Norwood, Assistant Moderator of PW Women, if you would like to become involved with Bethesda women and their missions. The fellowship, the Bible study, the projects and the missions are a valuable part of the Bethesda family.

2011 Honorary Life Membership Award2011 Honorary Life Membership Award2011 Honorary Life Membership Award2011 Honorary Life Membership Award
Each year the Bethesda Presbyterian Women confer an Honorary Life Membership upon an individual in recog-
nition of faithful service to our church and its missions. On June 12, 2011, this honor was given to Dr. Cindy Dier-Dr. Cindy Dier-Dr. Cindy Dier-Dr. Cindy Dier-
ingeringeringeringer, a very deserving and hard-working member of Bethesda Presbyterian Women.
Cindy was born in Ohio and became a Presbyterian while attending Grove City College, a small (2000 students)
Presbyterian college in Pennsylvania. As Cindy says, she migrated to West Virginia and North Carolina before com-
ing to South Carolina to do her residency at Richland Memorial. While at Richland, she attended Eastminster Pres-
byterian Church. At Eastminster she was active in choir, handbells, and was a circle co-chairman. In 1994 she moved
to Camden and was employed by Kershaw Health (back then Kershaw County Memorial Hospital) as an emergency
medical doctor. Cindy is the daughter of Frank Dieringer, who resides at the Presbyterian Home in Columbia and
the late Ruth Dieringer, both members of Bethesda. She has one sister, Barbara, a brother-in-law, and numerous
nieces and nephews back in Ohio.
Cindy joined Bethesda in April 1999. Since then, she has been busy with many as-
pects of church life. She is a member of Bethesda Handbells, and she sings alto in the
adult choir. She has served as Moderator-elect and twice as Moderator of the Presbyte-
rian Women. She has also served as Historian and is now Secretary for the Presbyterian
Women’s Coordinating Team. She is an active member of Circle 1. She was responsible
for the Presbyterian Women Spring Gathering that was held at Bethesda in 2006. Be-
sides being active in the Presbyterian Women, she has been a member of the Health
Cabinet for ten years; she helps with Health Fair presentations; she helps with blood pres-
sure monitoring at coffee fellowships; and she has presented a Wednesday night supper
health program. She is Medical Director and advisor for the Automatic External Defibril-
lator program here. She was a member of the elder nominating committee for 2010. She
helped organize and deliver cookies to the emergency teams throughout Kershaw County
right after 9/11—this was a PW missions program. Also, she has advised many of our
church members on health concerns for themselves or family members.
We are so proud of Cindy and thank her for her devotion to Bethesda.
