SHARING OF PRAYER CONCERNS Pastor Mike

UNISON PRAYER God of Heaven and Earth, thank you for Mary and Elizabeth: how they went day after day after day carrying the weight of your plan; anticipating with joy new life within them. Thank you for Jesus: delivered with pain and in blood, bringing new hope to your world. As we pray for the ones we mention and the ones we hold silently in our hearts, bring fresh hope and joy to each one and to us. Thank you for being the God of steadfast love, and never leaving us hopeless.

THE ANTHEM (recorded) Mary Did You Know Music by Mark Lowry & Buddy Greene Carol Johnson, soloist

VOLUNTARY Rondo, from Piano Sonata No. 15 Ludwig van Beethoven in D Major, “Pastorale” (16 Dec. 1770-1827)

Note: In art, literature, and music, the Pastoral(e) is a work depicting rural life, after the Latin word for shepherd, pastor. The genre dates from the third century B.C., when the Sicilian poet Theocritus included sketches of country life in his Idylls. Beginning around the thirteenth century A.D., musical pastorales included those performed at Christmas by Italian shepherds, playing their bagpipes and drums. Handel imitated this in the “Pastoral Symphony” from Messiah (1742). Beethoven continued the tradition in two large compositions subtitled “Pastorale”: the Piano Sonata No. 15 and the Symphony No. 6, which ends with a “Shepherd’s Song: Happy and Thankful Feelings after the Storm.”
