We understand that summer in Vermont is short-lived and worth savoring, like a slice of fresh cut watermelon. It is also a time of wonder in a child’s life, when school routines magically melt away, replaced by plenty of play and other leisurely pursuits.

The Y is here to help your child discover his or herself. Y camps are filled with creative, physical, recreational, team and skill–building activities all with an emphasis on good, old fashioned make-your–own-fun. Everyday we make sure every child also experiences a sense of belonging, personal achievement and learns skills for developing positive relationships.

New campers and returning campers feel equally at home with the Y. They are supervised by counselors trained in the Y way, each one modeling our Y character traits of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

On the following pages you will find Y camps for every age and interest from our youngest school age campers to teen participants in the Y Leaders In Training (LIT) Program. Y theme-based camps at Camp Koda follows a child’s emerging special interests from “a world of wild things,” to imaginary trips to outer space, all set in convenient school site locations in Chittenden, Franklin and Washington counties.

Y Camp Abnaki in North Hero has hosted generations of boys in its traditional day and residential program. Camp Greylock is its co-ed cousin, a day camp in Kingsland Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh that offers free daily bus transportation from pick up sites in Burlington, South Burlington, Charlotte, Williston, Winooski and Colchester.

We are proud of our longstanding track record engaging young Vermonters in the best of the best season in our most beautiful state. We can’t promise daily sunshine, but we hope to provide the backdrop for the Best Summer Ever!

Sincerely,

Marsha FaryniarzSenior Vice President

GENERAL INFORMATION

ABOUT THE YThe Y is a non-profit organization with a mission to build a strong community by involving youth, adults and families in programs and activities that develop spirit, mind and body. The Y is here to serve our community. No one is turned away, regardless of ability to pay.

Y CAMP PHILOSOPHYWe recognize that in the summer kids need a safe and stimulating environment where they can develop skills, have fun, and build positive relationships with peers and adults. At Y camps we provide creative, age-appropriate activities that promote social, physical, intellectual and emotional growth — all through recreational play and hands-on activities.

STAFFWe select our counselors for their emotional maturity, experience with children and knowledge of camp. Staff and counselors always model the Y character traits of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and are given additional training in child development, conflict resolution and behavior modification. Counselors are at least 18 years old. They are certified in First Aid and CPR and hold all necessary water safety lifeguard certifications. Many are returning counselors!

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Everyone belongs at the Y, regardless of ability to pay. CAMP GREYLOCKState-licensed traditional day camp for 6 - 15 year olds located in Kingsland Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh. Daily lunch served and transportation provided from pick-up sites in Burlington, Charlotte, Colchester, Ferrisburgh, South Burlington, Williston and Winooski. Nine weekly sessions are offered. Camp Director: Pronto Parenteau 652-8139 or [email protected].

Get out into the great outdoors! Camp Greylock is located lakeside at the beautiful Kingsland Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh and offers an experience certain to make your child’s summer full and memorable. Camp operates Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm (not including transportation time.) Camp is open and staffed from 8AM to 5PM for the convenience of those who wish to drop off and pick up their child. We also offer free daily bus transportation from Burlington and its surrounding area. The Y even takes care of lunch!

A Day in the Life at Camp Greylock There is a lot more than just fun and games going on at Camp Greylock. We focus on three areas that research shows makes summer camps great: 1) Building Skills, 2) Making Friends and 3) Developing A Sense of Belonging. Our intentional focus and range of recreational activities help children feel a sense of belonging and personal achievement. We also teach hands-on skills in specific areas like arts and crafts, archery and even the Gaga Pits and Carpet Ball tables. Our weeklong wacky traditions and rituals are also super popular with the campers.

Your child will spend as much time outside as possible enjoying swimming, canoeing, art, archery, team sports, drama and exploration of the natural world. On rainy days, the main house offers protective cover and plenty of space for indoor recreation.

TransportationThe Y provides free bus transportation from the Greater Burlington area with pick up and drop off stops in Burlington, Charlotte, Colchester, South Burlington, Williston and Winooski. If fewer than 3 children are registered for a stop, families will be asked to pick an alternate location. For your bus pick up location, see page 8.

Tiered PricingRecognizing that families have differing abilities to pay, we offer three pricing tiers:

• TIER A is our historically low rate and does not reflect the true operating cost of camp expenses ($205)

• TIER B better reflects our operating expenses including repairs and maintenance ($230)

• TIER C helps us to cover long-term depreciation and growth ($255)

This program is voluntary and offers an opportunity for families to support the true cost of operating the camp. The tier you choose in no way influences your camper’s experience. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

Y “LIT” PROGRAM (LEADERS IN TRAINING) Learn the skills necessary to become a great leader. Participants in our LIT program gain valuable leadership and job skills working alongside counselors and under the direction of the program supervisor. LIT programs are hosted at Camp Greylock and several Camp Koda locations. Each teen is expected to fill out an application and provide two written references. Interviews will take place upon receipt of a completed application.

Cost: The LIT program is $200 per 2 week session (there are no partial session options).

Requirements: Details and a free t-shirt are supplied upon acceptance. For more information about the Camp Koda LIT program, contact Sara Robertson-Ryan at 802-652-8150 or [email protected] and for the Camp Greylock LIT program, contact Pronto Parenteau at 652-8139 or [email protected]. For Camp Greylock free transportation pick up locations, see page 8.

Throughout the week, campers participate in archery, swimming, sailing, kayaking, arts and crafts, and much more! Campers also learn about themselves, build skills, a sense of values, and a positive attitude about themselves and others. Most of all, camp life is about new friendships and making happy memories.

The form is included in the Summer Camps 2015 Brochure or can be found online at gbymca.org.

Failure to Make Payment:If your payment declines, the Y will attempt to reprocess the payment one time before contacting you. If the account is not paid in full or communication is not made with the Business Office, the Y reserves the right to cancel the child’s enrollment in the program. The child’s enrollment in any other Y program will not be permitted until the account is paid in full. It is the sincere wish of the Y that none of the above steps will need to be taken. All of the payment due dates and payment policies apply to families receiving financial assistance.

Financial Assistance:The Y is committed to serving families regardless of their ability to pay; therefore financial assistance may be available to those who qualify. We welcome you to apply by submitting a Y Scholarship Form found at gbymca.org. Prior to seeking Y tuition assistance, you must apply for state subsidy.

Withdrawals, Schedule Changes & Non-Attendance:The $25 per session deposit is non-refundable. If withdrawal occurs after the payment deadlines, tuition will not be refunded. A $10 schedule change fee will be charged for changes that occur less than seven days before the session’s start date. Non-attendance will result in cancellation from all registered sessions if communication with program director is not made within 48 hours of the absence.
