Key Elements – What’s the problem?
• Following expansion project at the Mine 16Mt – 23Mt WE REALIZED
NEED TO DE-BOTTLNECK our TRANSPORTATION SUPPLY CHAIN!
• We required an architecture to transform our data into “information” to be more resilient.
– What were the means?
• Add Context to data to provide Actionable information
• Juxtapose operational excellence metrics VS business metrics;
• Implement automatic and consistent Event and Excursion Tracking to add Resilience to transportation supply chain;
• Integrate Pit-to-Client decision making and planning through Data Collaboration
• Follow the Money Trail throughout each transportation process along the supply chain
• Implement one consistent Information HUB integrating all systems

Heavy-Haul Equipment Logistic
Strategies Using the PI System
ArcelorMittal is Mines Canada on Quebec's North Shore - The world's number one steelmaker hauls and ships over 26 million metric tons of iron ore products every year for the international steel marketWANTS to
Transform its mining business with supply chain resilience.
Increase speed and quality of logistic decisions to support an increase of 10+ Mt of throughput following expansion.
Use the PI System as an Information Hub to “Contextualize” data and manage all aspects of the supply chain.
Throughput targets of 26Mt were met as shipping capacity increased with no infrastructure investments
• Transform data into actionable information;
• Support KPI-based planning to drive business goals;
• Assist in scheduling maintenance at the right time based on market requirements
• Visibility on all strategic, tactical and
operational planning challenges;
• Increased production and ore
shipments from 23 to 26 Mt with
additional revenue of 120M$ in 2015
Mines Canada
• Reduction in variable production costs;
• Increase visibility of entire supply chain;
• Resilience in adapting to disruptions and plan changes
