BEST PRACTICES – FLAG FOOTBALL In addition to General Guidelines Fall Sports 2020

General (Grades 1-4) 1. All practices should always be conducted outdoors. Practices should be canceled in
extreme heat or inclement weather rather than moved indoors. 2. Field markings will include a line for spectators to stay 6 feet back from side line. 3. The minimum amount of cones will be placed on the field to mark the field dimensions. 4. Each player is encouraged to have their own football. Football should be sanitized after
each practice and game. 5. No congregating or team meetings. 6. No scrimmaging other teams to cut down on the potential exposure from another team 7. Players should condition in small groups. After conditioning period, teams should limit the
amount of time practicing 7v7.
Athletes 1. Cloth face coverings are encouraged but not mandatory. 2. Mouth pieces should remain in the mouth and disinfected regularly. Players are
discouraged to playing with the mouthpiece. 3. Personal items are not shared; each players brings their own water, food, etc. 4. No benches; players and coaches are positioned 6’ apart. One team is positioned on the
home side; the other on the visitors side. 5. Gloves, long sleeves and long pants are permissible. 6. Flags must comply with the CYO Flag Football Rules. Flags cannot be shared. See CYO rule
book. 7. When subbing into the game, the athletes must know exactly who they are going in for to limit
down time for subs. 8. There will be no physical contact between the subs. 9. No celebrations after a touchdown. Athletes will remain 6’ apart.
Spectators 1. No restrictions on the number of spectators. 2. Bring your own chairs. Must be 6’ from next family. 3. Spectators must be 10’ from the sideline and the bench area. 4. No dogs. 5. Maintain social distancing at all times.
Coaches 1. Three credentialed coaches only in the bench area that are spaced 6’ apart from players
and other coaches. 2. No game card the day of the game; submit game card online the day before the game. 3. Each team will provide 2 game balls that is sanitized before each practice/game.
Official 1. One per game. 2. No pre-game meeting with captains.
Game Modifications 1. Field markers will be placed at the goal line and 25 yard line (half of the field). 2. Substitutes can enter the match when beckoned by the official while maintain 6’ between
the substitute. Substitutions are encouraged to occur closer to the center line. There will be no physical contact between the subs.
3. Players must retrieve balls that are kicked out of play - spectators may not touch the ball.

Rookie Tackle Football - Grades 5 & 6 Football as a contact sport it’s considered a higher risk than other sports.
Additional precautions may be necessary to minimize the risk and subject to change.
General 1. Eligibility is determined by the General Sections. . 2. Only players within the same sections may participate on the team. 3. No player may attend practice without a completed pre-participation form COVID-19 release. 4. EACH COACH MUST TRACK EACH ATHLETE EVERY PRACTICE IN THEIR POD BY USING THE
ATHLETE MONITORING SHEET. Any athletes who responds yes to any question must be sent home. See attachment.
5. No two-a-days or any form of them (i.e. films etc.). Three is the recommended number of practices per week; four is not permitted. Each practice duration is no more than one hour and 30 minutes.
6. No indoor practices. 7. Players must sanitize their own equipment; no sharing equipment. 8. No scrimmages. 9. No congregating in parking lots, locker rooms etc. 10. At least two stations of hand sanitizer must be available. Athletes must sanitize their hands
during breaks and upon leaving the facility.
Teams in these grades will follow the physical distancing guidelines in three phases: Phase 1: Seven calendar days from the first date you begin practice (consider as conditioning phase).
The entire team will be divided into pods of 8 or less. Gatherings may be 8 or less. One or two certified coaches will remain with the same pod for 7 calendar days. Attendance/Monitoring is taken every day. If a player is sick or absent, it is documented
in the team’s attendance log. Each head coach of the unit must submit the attendance log to the head coach of the team and the team’s head coach must submit to the AD at the end of each practice. See attached.
No equipment; no footballs; no contact. All drills conducted within 6’. If any player or coach who gets a fever or other symptoms, the entire unit is quarantined for 14 days.
Phase 2: After completion of Phase I and a no documented cases, a team may move in Phase II and begin a new period of tracking cases. All teams must comply with the five practice day of acclimation period. All athletes joining the team for the first time at any point during the season must participate in the 5 day acclimation period prior to any contact drills.
Practice day 1 & 2 – Helmets and footballs only. No contact.
Practice day 3 & 4 – Helmets, shoulder pads and football. No contact
Practice day 5 – Full pads and football. No contact.
During the first five days of practices, athletes may engage in conditioning, speed, strength and agility drills. Dummies may be used if disinfected after each practice.
All drills conducted within 6’.
Practice day 6 and beyond – To be announced.

Practice day 7 and beyond – Full contact and these conditions mandatory if not already a common procedure:
Temperatures must be taken and recorded. Athlete monitoring form continues to be completed before every practice.
Masks in and masks out for athletes; all coaches and athletes hands are sanitized. During all water break, hands sanitized; ball disinfected. All coaches on the sideline must be 6’ apart. No team meetings; no lingering after practice. Only players and coaches at practices; parents must remain in their car. Small pockets of people
encouraged at each practice No benches should be set up at practices.
Phase IV: Competitions Begin Opens – September 12
Check this Out! Football Cleaning Tips Each player must disinfect after every practice their own equipment (helmet, shoulder pads etc.). Coaches must sanitize the balls throughout the practice session and before and after each practice.
6th Grade – 8 players on the field
At least five A players shall be on their line at the snap and may have any legal jersey number. After the ball is ready and before the snap, each player of A must momentarily be within 12
yards of the spot where the ball is to be snapped. Each A player (regardless of jersey number) who at the snap was on the end of the scrimmage
line (total of two) and each A player who at the snap was legally behind the scrimmage line (possible total of three) is eligible
5th Grade – 7 players on the field
Participation – This rule is being modified based upon he quarter/half discrepancy.

Green Cards: All eligible coaches who attended the recertification program, will receive their green cards through their AD after they have returned their gold card. Gold cards were to be returned the day of the recertification or mailed to CYO (7911 Detroit Ave. address).
