Langkawi Named after the Malay words for ‘reddish brown eagle’. Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast. In 2007 it was declared Southeast Asia’s firest UNESCO Geopark – a geo;ogical and ecological wonderland of 550 million year old rock formations, mountainous rainforest and deserted islands. Surrounded by turquoise sea, the interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. Nature lovers will find the island just as agreeable as the shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees. The island is especially recognised for its excellent diving opportunities and this tropical gem hides a treasure trove of other exciting holiday opportunities.

Kuah is the most important town on Langkawi Island. The town of Kuah lies in the southeast of the main island and is the capital of Langkawi Island in the northwestern part of Malaysia. Though it is not an actual city, local people from Langkawi refer to it as a city. Kuah is a nice and small town with a relaxed atmosphere. There are no big malls, no heavy traffic and also no places to eat on every corner. This tour will take you to best shopping destination in Langkawi - Kuah Town. Under its duty-free status, the island has a large concentration of shopping malls and retail outlets that stock in-demand items from all over the world. From cigarettes, liquor, chocolates to luggage, apparel, perfumes, and cooking utensils. A visit to the town of Kuah is recommended as it is the only place to do some real shopping on the island.

Eagle Square The first thing that you will spot after entering Langkawi is Eagle Square (Dataran Lang in Malay).Located in Kuah Town and next to the jetty, Eagle Square is the place that reflects origin of Langkawi's name. The square is marked by a massive 12-meter sculpture of a reddish brown eagle which is poised to take off. Langkawi's name has been derived from reddish brown eagle, because in old Malay language Helang means Eagle, and Kawi stands for reddish brown. So this manmade statue of the eagle placed on a huge star shaped concrete platform has been created to reflect this background of the island where an eagle is the symbol of Langkawi. Eagle Square is renowned not only for eagle but for its surroundings as well. This culturally rich square is really worth visiting.

Underwater World There are more than 500 species of animals and sea creatures in more than 100 specially designed tanks Here you will see different species of water life, the penguins and sea lions. It is one of the largest marine and fresh water aquaria in South East Asia. Unique to Underwater World Langkawi is the gigantic 15-meter long walk-through tunnel consisting of 500,000 litres seawater which houses many big fishes and sea creatures including the Giant Green Turtle.

Atma alam craft centre The birth place of Langkawi's art of handmade batik was founded by Aza Osman (Oil Painter) and Roshadah Yusof (batik artist / designer) and is a treasure trove of local art and culture. Here all elements are pools together to showcase the true products of local talents in the world of batik. The half-acre floor space consisting of batik workshop, batik showroom, art gallery, batik gallery and handicraft display offers high quality local products affordable to all. Come experience the differences. Atma Alam Batik Art Village is recognised by the Malaysian Ministry of Unity, Culture, Art &Heritage.

Cable Car (Sky Cab) Ride The Langkawi Cable Car, also known as Langkawi SkyCab, is one of the major attractions in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. It provides an aerial link from the Oriental Village at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also the location of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km (1.4 mi), with a journey time from the base to the top of around 15 minutes. It was officially opened in 2003. The entrance for the Langkawi Cable Car, which takes visitors all the way up to Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak, is located in The Oriental Village in the upper northwest of Langkawi Island, near Pantai Kok. Entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, visitors make their payment at a counter before stepping onto an escalator which brings them to the cable-car pedestal.

Kings Palace (photo stop) Kuala Lumpur is a bustling metropolis with unique landmarks that are instantly recognizable worldwide. One of Asia's most dynamic cities, Kuala Lumpur is a melting pot of races and cultures brimming with diverse entertainment options, exciting attractions and modern transportation systems. The city tour starts from the most prominent landmark - The Kings Palace, which officially became the National Palace in 2011. The King’s Palace or Istana Negara was built in 1928 and was originally the residence of a Chinese millionaire. The area is fenced up and at the front of the gate are two guard posts where members of the Royal Calvary guard the entrance. The palace is not opened to the public and the main entrance with the mounted royal guard at the gate is one of the main attractions for visitors to the Istana.

National Monument The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japanese occupation during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960. It is located in the Federal capital, Kuala Lumpur. The National Monument is a 48,562 sq meter space with 5 major components. The components are the monument, the pavilion, the surrounding gardens, the fountains and the war memorial. The Malaysian Houses of Parliament are situated near the monument. It is the world's tallest bronze freestanding sculpture grouping. Every year on 31 July on Warriors' Day, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Prime Minister, heads of military, and the police pay their respects to the fallen heroes by laying garlands at the monument.

National Mosque This uniquely designed mosque embodies a contemporary expression of traditional Islamic art, calligraphy and ornamentation. Its most striking feature is the multi-fold umbrella-like roof which symbolises the aspirations of an independent nation. Standing prominently against the skyline is the sleek and stylish 73m high minaret. The central roof appears to be first glance a partially unfolded umbrella. The building itself includes a hall, a mausoleum, a library, offices, an open courtyard and a minaret. The Grand Hall is surrounded by deep veranda's. They provide a praying area and can easily accommodate up to 5000 people. The mausoleum, situated at the rear of the mosque, stands in a circular reflecting pool and is connected to the main building by a covered foot-bridge. It is circular in shape and is covered by a pleated shell concrete dome similar in shape to that of the Grand Hall but with only seven folds, one of which covers a reserve for the national hero’s tomb.

Merdeka (Independence )Square Merdeka Square is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated in front of theSultan Abdul Samad Building. It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight (time: 12:00 AM) on 31 August 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annualMerdeka Parade (National Day Parade).

Chinese Temple - Thean Ho Temple Thean Hou Temple is one of the oldest and largest temples in Southeast Asia. Southwest of the city, it is a popular tourist attraction and is located along Jalan Klang Lama. Overlooking the Federal highway, the six-tiered Buddhist temple is also known as the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven. Dedicated to Tian Hou, a goddess said to protect fishermen, the temple is also a shrine where many come to worship Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. Built by KL’s Hainanese community in 1894, it is set on a hill and offers wonderful views of the city. Inside Thean Hou Temple is a modern Buddhist pagoda and plenty of Buddha images enshrined in the octagonal hall. There is also a statue of Tian Hou which sits between the Goddess of the Waterfront and the Goddess of Mercy.

KL Tower (Observation Deck) KL Tower is the 7th tallest telecommunications tower in the world with a height of 421m (it dropped one place in the rankings following the opening of Tokyo Skytree in 2012). Its Observation Deck is at a less impressive 276m, being situated on the lowest of the six levels in the head of the tower, but as the tower stands on top of a small hill, it still gives excellent views of Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding regions. KL Tower was opened to the public in 1996, nearly 5 years after construction started. It offers the same sort of visitor experience as similar towers in Seoul and Auckland which I have also visited. The rest of the tower below has a stairwell and an elevator to reach the upper area, which also contains arevolving restaurant, providing diners with a panoramic view of the city.

Petronas Twin Towers (photo stop) The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This amazing building of 452 meters of height (88 floors and 32.000 windows) is one of the tallest in the world. The building is based on the five pillars of the Islam, which can be seen in the round shapes of the towers. The building is designed by Cesar Pelli, a famous architect. In 2004 the building won the Aga Khan price for its special architectonic building style. The PETRONAS Towers have become the figurehead of Malaysia. Within the towers you’ll find the most diverse companies. The largest part of the building is used by PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia. The build has 88 floors, visitors can go up to the 42st floor, at 175 meters height, where a walking bridge of nearly 60 meters length connects the two towers. The bridge is not connected to either of the towers though. This makes sense, because both towers move independent of each other, the bridge just ‘hangs’ between them.
