Dear Friends, We are without a doubt in a recessionary period, and many of the negative predictions for the economy are now being realized in Italy. However our group ended the first quarter of 2012 with results that c o n f i r m B e s t U n i o n G r o u p ’s leadership in the Italian event services market.Our group intends to face the coming months with a renewed push to improve performance and with the desire to at t ract capable and motivated resources. In this way we will drive change, and transform our business where needed. Our group has secured many new customers which push us to strive even harder toward the creation of a corporate culture that is respectful of both local needs and of our global vision.

In the coming months new and important contracts will be signed. Our group’s shared commitment to excel, and the unique industry know-how we possess, will make all the difference. We will be required to meet new challenges by drawing energy from within to guide us toward a future worthy of our aspirations. Our group will strive to reach our potential through new agreements and alliances, and the Middle and the Far East will be areas of interest as well. In addition, I’m happy to announce that Marilena Ferrari has joined the Best Union Group’s board of directors. This valuable addition to the board clearly demonstrates how important businesswomen are bringing a wealth of passion and expertise to our company. Finally, I would like to send special thoughts to our Emilian brothers struck by the recent earthquake.

Our group, in collaboration with “Republic” promoted and supported a concert by Maestro Abbado to raise funds and additional initiatives in support of earthquake victims are being considered. In our next newsletter we will present our financial results for the first six months of 2012.

The energy to drive change

Splash Adventure Water Park is open for their 2012 summer season in Bessemer, Alabama, and they are ready to sell tickets using OmniTicket Network's Overview Ticketing system. The cities of Milan and Turin join together again this summer in the name of art. The two great capitals of the north and west join forces to form the MITO September Music Festival from September 5th to September 19th. A rich schedule of shows and concerts will bring the audience into the heart of great music, and allow them to discover the most beautiful and hidden urban locations. More than 4000 artists will be involved in 190 events, of which 156 are concerts that will be held in these two cities. It is an event intended to satisfy the widest audience possible.The MITO September Music Festival offers a brilliant artistic program while at the same time making sure the event is widely accessible to all through low admission prices as well by offering many free concerts and listening guides. With a special focus on younger audiences, the event becomes a cultural and musical laboratory of education through the involvement of schools, colleges and universities.

This year the varied program will include a diverse selection of music, from the classical genre, with the participation of the greatest orchestras of the world, to the contemporary forms, dedicated to the figures of the composers Luis de Pablo and Kaija Saariaho. Ancient and Baroque music, to the homage to Giulio Ricordi, will also be included, along with many jazz, rock and pop concerts. The importance of the MITO September Music Festival, now in its sixth edition, is demonstrated by the personal involvement of the mayors of the two cities who, for the first time, have decided to take on direct responsibility for the co-chairmanship of the festival.

Sargent and the Impressionists of the New World

Charta welcomes another big event to the city where Dante was born. The occasion is the fifth centenary of the death of Amerigo Vespucci, the Florentine navigator, a true bridge between the old and the new world. The exhibition will last until July 15th in Palazzo Strozzi, located in Florence, and is dedicated to John Singer Sargent and others big names of Impressionism. These artists flocked to Italy at the end of the nineteenth century, and became especially fascinated by Florence. The name of the exhibition is “Americans to Florence: Sargent and the Impressionists of the New World” and it presents works of artists who, though not entirely impressionists, became the precursors for future generations.We mention for example William Morris Hunt, John La Farge, Thomas Eakinsm, and the true avant-garde like Sargent, Mary Cassatt, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, who were highly versatile and cosmopolitan artists along with some real American Impressionists including the Ten American Painters such as William Merritt Chase and Childe Hassam Frederick. For all of these people, living in Italy and building relationships with European intellectuals was essential.

In view of the mutual cultural exchange that took hold, they also imported more free and unprejudiced ways and lifestyles. In particular the American women painters turned out to be much more emancipated than their European counterparts. Noteworthy are the portraits of women and litt le girls, usually wearing white dresses, symbolizing purity and hope embodied in the new American society.

Beginning on June 26th, “10 Days Played” will be moving to the province of Pavia, in Vigevano, near the “Castello Sforzesco.” This is not just a musical event and includes important guests such as Lenny Kravitz and Ben Harper. The trio of wonders on guitar, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Steve Morse will also be on stage.

Bollate - Festival Villa Arconati

The Festival at Villa Arconati in Bollate is a not-to-be-missed event from Milan which began in 1989, and showcases performances by artists such as Paolo Conte, Paolo Nutini and Afterhours. The festival begins June 26th.

Aosta - Musicastelle in Blue

The Musicastelle Festival at the “Forte di Bard” in Aosta presents some of Italy’s most popular artists, including Niccolò Fabi, Negrita and Nina Zilli. Performances begin June 22nd. On July 13 – July 21 the “Piazza d ’A rm i de l Fo r t e ” w i l l ho s t Musicastelle in Blue, the show organized by the Region of Valle d'Aosta and Blue Note Milano. The show includes internationally renowned singers and musicians like Wayne Shorter Quartet and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Berchidda - Time in Jazz Festival

Moving to one of our biggest islands we’re highlighting the 25th edition of “Time in Jazz Festival” in Berchidda and neighboring municipalities. This event is organized by Paolo Fresu and is scheduled to run from August 9th - 16th. Fire is the background theme and international guests will include Bill Frisell, Omar Sosa and Trilok Gurtu.

After last year’s event where Maestro Andrea Bocelli, along with other famous Italian artists such as Renato Zero, Nek and Andrea Griminelli, shared a concert dedicated to the Italian-Chinese cultural celebrations of the year, the Theatre of Silence will return on July 12, 2012 in its most classic form. The live exhibition by Maestro Bocelli, the true star of the show, will be as always unique and unrepeatable.Due to the quality of the performance, the show sold out in a very short time, however a new opportunity is offered to those who have not been able to buy tickets. Maestro Bocelli offers the opportunity to attend the open rehearsal of the Theater of Silence, which will take place the day before the show. This is a rare opportunity to participate from a different perspective and view the concert preparation of one of the most admired and respected Italian artists in the world.

The amazing venue of the Scaliger Castle of Villafranca di Verona will welcome the return of the godfathers of punk rock: Iggy Pop with his historic band, the Stooges. This one-night show will be their only performance in Italy. The legendary band from Michigan, led by its charismatic leader, reappeared on stage in 2003 after a long hiatus. Their typical live act is based on rough rock and has been a passion and an inspiration for many artists and generations of listeners around the world. The event is scheduled on Friday, July 27.
