Portfolio Performance Reviews Week 10.
All students will receive an A-E report this term which will form a part
of our reporting process. ALL A-E reports will be discussed and can
only be collected at your child’s portfolio performance review. A
reminder that these are taking place in week 10; if you have not
made an appointment as yet, please make contact with the front
office.
These are extremely valuable reviews of student achievement,
learning goals, learning strategies and learning attitudes. Our
teachers have not only been working with your child to achieve
their goals, but, to provide greater purpose and learning direction
with the use of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. In a nut
shell, Learning Intentions provide a purpose for the lesson with
Success Criteria providing information to the student about what
they have to work towards / do to achieve the required standard.
Goal setting, Learning Intentions and Success Criteria is language
which we would like all our students to be familiar with and to know
how use these elements of their learning program to help them to
have growth in their learning. Parents and families talking to their
children about their learning are encouraged to discuss goal
setting, learning intentions and success criteria at home. Over time
your child should be able to convey what and how they are
learning. Your conversations support your child by consolidating
and re enforcing what they are learning at school.
These portfolio reviews will see the implementation of SOLO
(Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome) or otherwise known
as growth ladders (fancy names for an assessment grid). These grids
incorporate Learning Intentions, Success Criteria and Goal Setting.
They are new to students and staff. We look forward to these having
a real impact on student achievement as they are a very powerful
feedback and goal setting tool as part of the assessment process.
Ask as many questions during the meetings as you need to so that
you can start to understand these ‘growth ladders’.
Kind Regards,
Stuart Miller

School Disco
On Wednesday 13th June, the SRC organised and held our annual
school disco. It was, once again, a great success with the majority
of students attending and participating in dancing, singing,
games, competitions and having lots and lots of fun. A big thank
you to our SRC students who helped organise the disco as well as
staff and parents who supervised throughout the night. There
were some great costumes worn on the night and lots of fun
had by everyone. Here are some photos from the night.

Room 6 Forestry Excursion
Last week we travelled to the Honan-Woolwash Biodiversity Corridor. We all rugged up for our adventure. The weather was kind and we managed to plant all of the seedlings by 12 noon, just before the main storm hit. When tree planting, we had to dig a hole deep enough for the roots of the plant. Sometimes a big shovel was needed. Then we tipped the plant upside down suddenly, to dislodge it, careful to catch it of course! The seedling was carefully patted into the ground so that air did not reach and kill the roots. The rain should help to pack the soil and help with this process. A tree guard with a stake was hammered in over each seedling to protect it. We reused these from other excursions that we had been on. Most of the plants from the previous planting had taken well! We noticed a kangaroo trail so we avoided planting along that as it might get hopped on. We were pleased to do our bit towards environmental sustainability. FUNGI…… We were excited to find a lot of fungi in and around the trees. The pinky-red specimen is called “Stinkhorn”. It smells like old meat and is attractive to some animals. They then spread it’s spores around, which then grows in new places.
