We use PBIS, don’t we? Many believe PBIS means being positive
or using praise. Tangible rewards can negatively affect
intrinsic motivation. PBIS was designed for students with
disabilities, but our kids are too low to incorporate this program.
Why should I have to teach kids to be good?
We use PBIS, don’t we?
Why can I not just expect good behavior?
They know better and/or know what they are doing.
I recognize good behavior all the time.
Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehavior to occur before responding. The purpose of school-wide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.
