Project

Beppu is a town located between the sea and the mountains. The city was foundedon April 1, 1924, and it is famous for its hot springs. Beppu is in ita Prefecture onthe island of Kyushu, Japan, at the west end ofBeppu Bay.

Beppu contains eight geothermal hot spots, which are sometimes called "eighthells of Beppu". About 4 million tourists visit this city annually, making it the mostimportant destination for local tourism in the category of hot springs.

The eight hot spring areas in the city are called Beppu Hatto by everybody, andsome of them have a long history since the beginning of the 8 th century.

Tourist can take a bath in this hot springs with different type of water andproperties that can help you relax and even cure health problems. In Beppu youcan find free or inexpensive hot springs some of them in wonderful resorts.

The hot springs are also used for people for different things. For living peoplecollect the water making wells and it is use for all the housework, for gardening theflowers are cultivated in a house heated by thermal steam. From this water you can

take Yunohana, one of Beppus special product for baths in home. This source alsogives energy to people avoiding environmental damage, this energy is use forpower generation and heating.

In beppu are 4 seasons, winter, spring, summer and autumn. There are someparks and tourist sites in beppu, for example:

Lake Kagurame: It is a lake of 1km around. Between the middle of June and thebeginning of July, three hundred thousand irises of eighty different kinds will pleaseyour eyes with their beautiful colors to harmonize with surrounded nature.

Other place is Uchinari Terraced Paddy Field: Here people live in harmony withnature. Uchinari Terraced Paddy Field was selected as one of a hundred scenicpaddy fields of Japan by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Thisplace is visited especially in summer when farmers irrigated rice fields.

Yuru River Gorge: Located on the upper reaches of the Yufu River which flowsbetween Mt. Yufu and Mt. Tsurumi, it is a gorge of about 12km long and 15-16mdeep. Its beautiful scenery with about 40 falls and a beautiful curve of bare rockcreated after a great many years produces a fantastic atmosphere. It is a hiddenplace of the city to entertainment with the seasonal flowers and the grandeur of

abundant nature.

Minamitateishi Park: was maintained as a city park in 1971. In this 10.85 ha park,23,000 trees of about 140 different kinds which are mainly Oita native are planted.

Among others, the weeping ume tree that blooms in March is very famous.

Mount Tsurumi: Located in the Aso Kujyu National Park, it is the highest peak ofthe Tsurumi Mountains. You will surely be enchanted by her dynamic looking. It issaid that she erupted 1100 years ago, and still now the smoke rising up from thevolcano can be seen. She entertains you throughout the year with the

rhododendron kiusianum and the cherry blossoms in spring, the fresh green leavesin summer, the scarlet-tinged leaves in autumn, the rime in winter and the splendidview of the city. Mt. Tsurumi Climbing Rally is held in every spring. The participantsstart from the place of sea level, make their way around highway and climb up tothe top of the mountain of 1375 meters high without a rest.

Festivals

In Beppu they celebrate differents festivals. Beppu Hato Onsen Festivals, it is one

of the representative festivals of Beppu to appreciate abundant hot springresources. During the festival, the whole Beppu city will be caught up in hot springfever with full of events. Also some municipal hot springs will be offered free ofcharge.

Mt. Ogi Fire Festival, this is one of the main events of Beppu Hatto Onsen Festival.Flames silhouetted in the night sky to add a brilliant touch to the Onsen Festivalsignal the beginning of spring.

Beppu Early Evening Summer Festival, there are many attractive stands, food or

goods, in front of Beppu station during this festival. Wearing beautiful yukatapeople dance at Noryou ondo taikaih in the end of this event. They havespectacular features and a breathtaking symphony of light and fireworks by Beppubay.

In Beppu you can find different types of accommodation and that help to find theperfect place to have the better holidays, for example if you want : Minshuku ,this is a type economic place to stay for days. Ryokan, in such hotels there toomuch confort . accommodation in a temple offers the possibility of staying in atemple. There are establishments which for a time were created for religious

purposes and were later sold to private companies, but many of them remain todaytemples that house visitors. In these establishments have to follow some very strictrules of behavior. Love hotels, hotels with hundreds of rooms designed to passonly a few hours. Due to the lack of privacy in Japanese homes, many couples stillliving with parents, go to these hotels in the capital to spend time.

Types of transport : bus , bicycle , motorbike , car rental.

The activity to do is a wordsearch and a crossword with the most importantvocabulary in the presentation about Beppu. For the first group that finishes theactivity there will be prizes.
