MUD 18 TAX REPORT2011 Tax Rate:

At our September meeting, your MUD 18 Board voted to reduce the tax rate from $0.44 to $0.43 per $100 of assessed value. Over the life of the district, the Board has been able to, not only avoid raising taxes but also, for most years been able to declare a tax reduction. In 1995, the MUD 18 tax rate was $0.8317. The District's tax rate over the last several years is shown in following table:

2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011

0.56 .51 .51 .50 .49 .45 .44 .44 .43

Year

Rate per $100 assessed value

In 2011, the District sold $4.58 million in bonds primarily to fund the drilling of a water well in the Catahoula Aquifer and to add a second water plant adjacent to the new well. The plant will include a 25,000 gallon pressure storage tank and a 400,000 gallon ground storage tank. Also included will be two - 2000 gallons per minute cooling towers and a motor control center to operate the plant and well. These new facilities will not only satisfy the requirement for a 30% reduction in our use of the Jasper region of the Gulf Coast Aquifer, but will also increase water storage capacity that will help the District manage supply if the drought conditions persist into next year. The new plant should be operating by early 2012.

The Board is pleased that the District is able to expand the facilities AND provide a tax rate decrease. Our tax bills are calculated partly by the tax rate and also by what the Montgomery County Appraisal District (MCAD) declares as the official taxation value for our homes. The tax payment is due in January 2012.

The Bentwater Ladies Organization is switching into high gear to close out 2011. After an activity-filled October and Novem-ber with BLO events such as the Coushatta Gambling and Golf and Houston Nutcracker Market bus trips, Bric-A-Brac and the Chili Cook-Off, the ladies are preparing for two of the biggest events of the year.

We will begin December with the always-popular BLO Holi-day Dinner Dance, December 2nd-3rd at the country club. Because of space limitations and the popularity of the dance, there are two evenings of identical meals and band offered for our enjoyment. Many thanks to Betty Lou Morgan, Donna Gilbert and Connie Smith for putting their hearts into making these dances a special treat for all BLO members.

Following on the heels of the Dinner Dance, Bentwater Ladies Organization hosts the Annual BLO Holiday Home Tour, December 7th-8th from 4pm – 8pm in the evening. Our seven homes will be decorated for the holiday season as homeowners will open their doors to between 500-600 visitors over the two-night event. Each homeowner is given the opportunity to select their favorite charity to receive their share of the ticket sales. As this event is underwritten by various individuals each year, almost 100% of the proceeds are given to the chosen charities. In the past, each homeowner’s charity has received approximate-ly $1,200. We hope to equal or exceed this amount this year. Charlsie Rogge, Pat Wagner, Debbie Austin and Connie Stout are the members of the holiday home tour committee this year.

We offer our heartfelt thanks to the 2011 Holiday Home Tour

homeowners for opening their homes for our tour. They are Laurie and Sam Burtch, Sandy and Gary Eiland, Lyn and Greg Hullinger, Marlene and Len Keeling, Wanda and Michael Mor-gan, Julie and Roger Rodriguez and Dee and Bill Soderman. We know that everyone will enjoy visiting these lovely homes on Wednesday or Thursday evening. Tickets for this event are on sale in the Bentwater Country Club office for $15 advance or for $20 at the door.

The homeowners will be honored at a preview party, underwrit-ten by Connie Stout, on Tuesday evening, December 6. At this time, each home-owner will be presented with a pen and ink drawing of their home done by a Montgomery High School art student. This preview party also gives the home-owners a chance to see the other homes on the tour as they will be in their homes Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

And if that is not enough to keep us busy, the BLO outgoing and incoming board members will meet on Monday, Decem-ber 5 to box up Cookies for the Staff. This holiday tradition is anticipated by Bentwater employees each year. Many Bentwa-ter Ladies Organization members bake cookies - hundreds of dozens of cookies - that are collected and boxed for all of the departments at Bentwater. From the gate staff to the ground-skeepers, to the golf shop and the front office and dining room staff, each group receives boxes of cookies to enjoy. It is just a small way for the Bentwater Ladies Organization to say thank you to the staff for making our lives in Bentwater easier and more enjoyable. If you would like to donate some freshly baked

cookies, you can bring them to the Harborview Room at the Yacht Club between 11am -1pm on Monday, December 5th.

Finally, congratulations to the 2012 Bentwater Ladies Orga-nization Board who will, by the time you read this, already be working on activities for the new year. President: Jill Cambern V-President: Lynne Keener Secretary: Ellen Hart Programs: Lyn Hullinger Barbara Michels Treasurer: Nancy Sappenfield Asst. Treasurer/Membership: Karen Walker Parliamentarian: Pat Dinhoble

The final event of the year will be the December luncheon and meeting on Monday, December 12th at the yacht club. The program for the month will be the Amen Chorus, a group of 20-30 Bent-water residents organized by Keith Ann Gearn, who sing their own arrangements of a variety of music. They will be singing the songs of the season at the December luncheon. The chorus is always open to anyone who would like to come and sing once, twice or become a more regular sing-er. They take their music to many locations, the community church, neighbors in need of cheering up and will be singing at one of the homes on the Home Tour.

Bentwater Ladies Organization began in 1993 with 57 members and has grown to a group of more than 500 members. Our inter-est groups are the heart of our organization along with the special activities that BLO sponsors each year. We try to have something for everyone, a place to meet your friends and be informed or enter-tained at our monthly luncheons, monthly art and antique groups, dining groups, card groups and a sewing group.

If you have not joined the Bentwater Ladies Organization before, what are you waiting for? There is something here for everyone. The January meeting will be on Monday, January 9, 2012. We hope to see you there.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from Bentwater Ladies Organization!

caring for the beautifulgarden club

On a beautiful, sunny morning Bentwater Garden Club mem-bers traveled to a Houston garden center, Plants for All Seasons. Miriam Hemmeline was familiar with this nursery and orga-nized the outing. Many members had never been to this garden center, despite the fact that it has been in business for over forty years on FM 249.

One of the owners of Plants for All Seasons gave a presentation to the members concerning different types of roses and how to care for them. Everyone was interested to learn about the different types of roses that don’t require a lot of care. Kathy Arnoldi, Ann Davis, Stephanie Hatley, Bonnie McCracken and Phillis Podlipny were pleasantly surprised to each receive a beautiful rose plant from the generous owners of Plants for All Seasons.

Lucky door prize winners of gift certificates were Kathy Arnol-di, Miriam Hemmeline and Bettie Hultquist. Each of these members enjoyed using their certificates for either plants or other attractive gifts from the gift shop.

Members completed the tour with a delicious lunch at Gianna’s Italian Kitchen in Tomball, enjoying the use of a private room and further discussion on types of roses that have been suc-cessful for them. Some members elected to also visit The Arbor Gate Nursery nearby. It was certainly an informative and enjoyable day for all.

The Bentwater Garden Club always welcomes new members to join their group.

Trees In StressBentwater POA has eagerly accepted the volunteer services of one of our property owners who is highly educated with mul-tiple degrees, as well as experience, in forestry and wildlife, to assist us in evaluation of stressed trees in our community dur-ing this extreme heat period. He will accompany our degreed agronomist or other experienced staff members in personally inspecting the stressed trees.

Stressed trees not yet inspected will be marked with a GREEN ribbon.

If a trees’ condition is determined to be unknown at this time even though the leaves have turned brown, the POA will mark the tree with a BLACK ribbon to denote that further evaluation will be delayed until a few months after spring, 2012, at which time we will be able to determine if the tree is salvageable.

There will be exceptions where trees must be removed now due to disease or no hope of recovery. Trees in stress that have been inspected and scheduled for removal will be marked with an ORANGE ribbon.

Please note no trees may be cut down or removed without approval of the POA. Upon removal of a tree upon your home site, you may be required to replace the tree with a certain size and type of tree approved by the POA.

Trees infested with Pine Bark Beetles are addressed immediate-ly upon discovery pursuant to a POA Board Resolution dated December 8, 2000.

Applications for tree removal and/or installation are available by contacting the POA office. Questions and concerns may be addressed to:

The Bentwater Ladies Golf Association will close out the 2011 year with the always popular Jingle Bell Brunch on

Saturday, December 3. This is a fun event where the ladies are decked out in their finest holiday wear. All of the club champi-ons will be honored at this event as well as the ladies who won tournaments, competed in interclub, and other LGA events.

Congratulations to the Weiskopf Team for retaining the Bent-water Cup for another year, defeating the Miller team 45.25 points to 37.25. The weekend began with a pre-game rally at the home of Lyn Hullinger. Saturday morning the teams faced off and not even a hole-in-one on Weiskopf 14 by Donna Gil-bert could boost the Miller team to victory past the long driving ladies of Weiskopf. It was a fun day for all and everyone knows that the Miller team will be more than ready next year.

The LGA winners of Partners tournament were: Kathy Catlett and Diane Dill Faye Chapman and Diana Henigan Darlene Bumstead and Levera Meadors Faye Powell and Eva Sewell Connie Landgraf and Laura Burtch Julie Blackburn and Patti McGraw Jan Purvis and Mary Zimmermann Beryl Korb and Kathy McBane Debbie Lira andMarion Sheldon Jane Iribarren and Faye Schlemme

The final tournament of the year was the Boot Scootin’ Boogie on November 8. There was a full field and lots of fun. Winners were announced on the Bentwater website in November.

Another fun event was the Golf Swap Party, hosted by LGA president Tani Traver. It was an opportunity for the LGA members to clean out their golf closet, of new or gently used clothing, golf clubs, shoes, and trinkets that are so hard to part with. The party was held on October 20th where many ladies parted with things they no longer wanted while others walked away with some great finds.

The LGA has also initiated a new program this year called Tee It Forward. The ladies have adopted seniors living at a nursing home. These seniors will be entertained at a small pre-tour party followed by an escorted tour of the seven homes on the BLO Holiday Home tour before returning to their residences.

At the fall meeting of the LGA, held after the Bentwater Cup, officers for the 2012 year were elected. Congratulations to the winners:President: Debbie Glass Vice-President: Rae Jean Young Secretary: Biddy Scharnberg Treasurer: Terry Fisher Playday Chairperson: Rita Kimble

In all, the 2011 LGA year was filled with about 40 play-days, several tournaments, nine-hole and 18-hole club champion-ships, dozens of interclub and off-site golfing activities, golf clinics and rules workshops, and guest speakers like professional golfer Carol Mann and Allison Jarett, regional director of the USGA. There were activities for all skill levels and lots of fun for everyone.

The New Year begins soon. It might be chilly, but what’s a little cool weather after the spring, summer and early fall we had? Get out and enjoy.

Pastor Lee Rushing of North Shore Church and many others were recruited in the process. Dawn Cleboski, General Man-ager, Bentwater POA, ensured that all went well and helped immensely as advisor. We wish to extend a hand of gratitude to all involved for an exceptional job well done!

In October, we hosted our monthly luncheon with Leonard Glass, Ship Pilot, as our guest speaker.

Two weeks later, we held the annual Oktoberfest with sau-erkraut, brats and beer supplied by the MOB. All members and spouses were invited. Everyone that attended thoroughly enjoyed the outing in the Park in the Meadows once again.

In November, we prepared some of the best chili on earth at the Chili for Charities Cook-Off with MOB members, Frank Hus-band, Robert Miner, John Wigenbach and Ron Arnoldi taking the lead. It always seems to disappear prior to the voting. This affords an outstanding outdoor family outing for all the MOB members to come out and support their team involved in this charitable event.

In December, we will be enjoying an event that was very popu-lar last year, the Christmas Dinner Theatre being coordinated by Jim Hamilton. We will also have an outstanding Holiday Program similar to last year when Carrie Wilmes from the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society entertained us in an exceptional manner. This program was held at the Yacht Club and received rave reviews from all that attended. As we near the end of the year, new officers (servants to the Members) will be selected and presented to the Membership.

Come out and enjoy the fun and fellowship with the MOBSTERS.

It’s a life of fun, excitement, independence and luxury surrounded by friends. The best way to experience this life is to enjoy an evening at one of our many member events. We have a number of them each month that offer different opportunities for dining and dancing with a variety of cuisines. The event displayed in our photos are from the Cajun Fall Festival and the Seafarer’s Buffet, both featuring great live entertainment bands. Delicious food, great music, and dancing in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Conroe doesn’t get much better than this. Add your friends into the mix… and that makes for a perfect evening!

Roger and Sandie Hughes have been living in the Bent-water community since 2006. Recent-ly they came into the fitness center and sat down with the Director of Fit-ness and personal trainer, Meredith

Robertson, to discuss what options they may have for achieving a weight loss goal. Training and achieving a certain goal is all about what works for you.

Roger was set up to go through a couple of training sessions. In these training sessions, Roger learned how to properly use all the machines in the gym and how to perform free weight exer-cises. Once he had the knowledge of how to use the equipment and had a workout routine set in place, he felt he was ready to tackle the gym on his own. Roger Hughes is now in the gym 4-5 times a week blazing through his workout accomplishing

his fitness goals. To date, Roger has lost a total of 52 lbs. and has gone from a size 40 down to a 34. Way to go Roger!

Sandie Hughes took a different path to achieving her fitness goals. She decided to spin her way into shape by taking spin-ning classes with Kevin Bedell. Sandie would like to suggest that if you are going to do a spin class, bring a padded seat and don’t allow excuses to get in the way! Mrs. Hughes has achieved her 50 lb. weight loss milestone. She still continues to join in the spinning classes and is still moving towards her goal for a healthier lifestyle.

Mrs. Hughes stated, “My experience has differed from other gyms and facilities in the fact that Bentwater is more personal, with an opportunity to meet and get to know a lot of great people! With smaller classes and a more personal connection with your instructors and trainers, you really get to know one another making it easier to help you stay motivated and keep on the right healthy path.” When asked how she felt about the fitness center staff, she replied “very helpful… and has our cold peppermint towels available after a very tough spinning class. I am always met with a smile!”

Over 35 Bentwater Residents participated in Montgomery County United Way Day of Caring project. This year's event supported Bridgewood Farms; a Montgomery County agency, which provides services to over 140 mentally challenged teens and adults.

“Bridgewood was very appreciative of the strong turnout of volunteers and the enthusiasm displayed,” Bentwater MCUW Leadership Committee member Abe McCoy said.

Teams of Bentwater volunteers helped prepare poinsettias for holiday sales, assisted Bridgewood clients with the painting of handcrafted ceramics, completed garden improvements and repaired the greenhouse facility.

McCoy stated that several of the projects completed would have a direct, bottom line benefit on Bridgewood's financial condition.

This positive support once again shows how much BENTWATER CARES!

General Manager’s Message

As we enter into this holiday season, we look around and see the warmth, peace, and generosity of others magnifying as the season grows. Each and every person we meet and have con-nections with is in need of peace and goodwill, no matter their status or position.

Goodwill spirit as defined by Princeton University is: The friendly hope that something will succeed; A feeling of liking for another person and enjoyment in their company; A disposition to kindness and compassion; A cheerful, obliging disposition.

Although a text may provide definitions of goodwill, we as a community can define it with our heart and actions in immea-surable ways. One specific area that we can impact in our Bent-water community is our association and relationship with our neighbors. Lifestyles and schedules have become so compacted that we may not have been able to take the opportunity to get to know those who are in proximity to us. Extending the spirit of goodwill to your neighbors could include: • Wavingorsayinghelloinpassing • Introducingyourself • Reachingoutandofferingassistancewithdifferentneeds (helping with trash/recycling bins, keeping an eye on their house while they are away) • Sharingaplateofholidayfamilyfavoritecookiesorcandies

An area where Bentwater shines with the spirit of goodwill is to our surrounding community. There are numerous charitable groups and community associations in which Bentwater prop-erty owners are involve (far too many to list them all). Shown below are only a few of the hundreds and hundreds. They are not listed in the order of dollars or volunteer hours donated, they are simply a reflection of the big hearts in Bentwater: American Cancer Society

American Diabetes Association American Heart Association American Legion American National Red Cross Bentwater United Way (The only United Way community in the country) Big Brothers, Big Sisters Boys and Girls Club Boys and Girls Country Boy Scouts of America Bridgewood Farms Child Advocates of Montgomery County Churches, Synagogues and Places of Worship Doctors without Borders FAITH in Montgomery County Girl Scouts of America Grammy’s Cookies for Heroes Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Humane Society of Montgomery County International Rett Syndrome Association Lake Conroe Association Lake Conroe Communities Network Lions Club March of Dimes M. D. Anderson Hospital Montgomery County Crime Stoppers Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Montgomery County Fair Association Montgomery County Food Bank Montgomery County Performing Arts Society Muscular Dystrophy

New Danville Operation Helmet Real Housewives of Montgomery County

Rotary International Salvation Army Spirit Acres Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Texas Children’s Hospital

Each of these groups have benefited from the hard work and caring attitude, and generous donations from people in Bentwa-ter. And there are so many more…

We know you will agree that we have a community filled with warmth, peace, and generosity. Peace and goodwill towards all.

Antiquers On The Hunt!Contributed by Carolyn Russell

Several members of our Bentwater Antique Club made a trek to the Round Top Antique Fair. It was a full day of walking, talking, browsing the shops and lunch at a restaurant named Legal Tender. We returned with lots of goodies, including an early 1900 buffet, china, silver, clothing, accent pieces and jewelry. Adele Hanson, Cole’s Antiques, gave us pointers on covering the overwhelming number of shops.

Anna Richards hosted our first fall meeting and gave a delightful talk about her many antiques and collectables with items mostly from China, although some were from Cambodia and France, among other places. We all enjoyed seeing the beautiful items and indulging in the array of food and talking about our agenda and things to come.
