Principal’s Message Week 10 Term 2
Term 2 will conclude on Friday 5 July. I hope that everyone has an enjoyable break and returns refreshed
for Term 3. Students return to school on Tuesday 23 July.
I will be on long service leave for the first two weeks of next term. Cam Pryce will be relieving Principal in
my absence while Lana Howlett will relieve in the Deputy role. I have the upmost confidence that it will be
business as usual while I am away.
Congratulations to the girls’ soccer team who were successful
in their game against Glen Innes. The girls had a
comprehensive win beating Glen Innes 5-1. Such an amazing
achievement with several members of the team backing up
after a week of hockey!
Thank you to Miss Campbell for supporting the girls and
providing them with the opportunity to be involved in this
competition. The girls will play Moree in the next round.
Last week Sophie Parsons, Lucy Deiderick, Jeanie Inglis and
Millie Lehman represented Ben Venue as part of the North
West Hockey Team. The girls played particularly well and had
a great time.
Congratulations to Sophie Parsons who has recently been
selected in the North West Softball Team. This is the second
year in a row that Sophie has been a member of this team.
6M Market day
Last Friday 6M hosted their Market Day fundraiser for the Year
6 excursion. This was a highly successful day and the
culmination of a term of planning. Congratulations to 6M.
An Evening with ACOS - Important Information
Once again some of our students are preparing for the biennial event An Evening with ACOS to be held
at Lazenby Hall, UNE, on Wednesday 7 August (Week 3 Term 3). We have been informed that tickets for
An Evening with ACOS will be on sale through the Trybooking website. This website will accept payment
using both credit and debit cards. Tickets to the evening performance will be $20.00 each and the
website will stop taking bookings after all available tickets have been sold. There is no option to hold
tickets and pay later, nor can you contact local schools to get tickets. A limited number of tickets will be
available for the dress rehearsal at a reduced price of $5.00 per ticket. We will notify parents when
bookings have opened.
Semester One Reports
Semester One reports will be sent home to families this week. Students will bring their reports home
in sealed envelopes. If your family circumstances have changed and you now require a second copy of
the school report please call the front office so your details can be updated.
We don't allocate formal parent/teacher meeting times in Term 2 as we held these in Term 1, however, if
you would like to discuss your child's report with their classroom teacher, please contact them at the
school to make a time to meet.

National Consistent Collection Of Data
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent
Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD
process requires schools to identify information already available in the school
about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative
requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability
Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,
supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve
educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more
broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

2B and 2M Newsletter In Science this term, students have been exploring the life cycle and growth of living things. We have conducted
hands-on activities and investigations to compare the growth of mealworms and bean plants under different
conditions. We have been learning about mealworms and plants. We have learnt about the life cycle of the
mealworm. It starts as an egg, then hatches into the mealworm, after this it becomes a pupa before it turns into a
darkling beetle. Did you know that mealworms can go through their complete life cycle without any added water
as they are very efficient at extracting water from their food? We have also been observing the growth bean
plants under different conditions. We are growing one plant in the dark and the other plant in the light. It is really
interesting because the plant that is in the dark has grown taller than the plant that gets sunlight, but it is white
and looks unhealthy while the one in the light looks healthy and green. (Nora, Ryka, Tuleigh, Myarah and Louise)
We have been learning about the life cycle of meal worms and bean sprouts. We have our meal worms in two containers and one is in the dark and the other is in the light. We have been feeding them apples, carrots, celery and oats. The meal worms have been changing and they have been shedding their skin. Some of them have turned into pupas and soon they will start to turn into darkling beetles. We have been drawing them each day in our Science books. (Sana, Esabelle, Liam and Wayne)
In our History unit this term, students have been learning about ‘The Past in the Present’. We have been learning
about the importance of local historical buildings, significant people from the past who helped shape our
community and local events from the past and why they are important to our community.
During Week 7, we went on an excursion to the Old Teachers’ College. This is some of our students writing from
our visit.
Broom, broom went the bus as it stopped in front of the old Teacher’s College. We clambered out of the bus and
walked straight past the five or six rocks that was a memorial of the big jail. After we passed that bunch of granite
stone we walked over to the steps where 2B were having a photograph of the class on the sparkling front steps.
Then Mr Wilson was waiting for us. “Welcome to the New England Conservatorium of Music!” he started to say,
when I remembered that Aunt Evelyn taught at this school and my hand shot up into the air like a bullet. Mr
Wilson answered my comment and I said, “Do you know Evelyn?” and he said yes he did.
We went inside and Mr Wilson showed us into the Principal’s office and showed us around. There was a photo of
a man who donated over one hundred thousand artworks and there was a painting of the gardener.
I enjoyed the excursion and learning about all the historical facts about NECOM.

“Hop on the bus! We are going to the Conservatorium of Music!” said Mrs
McClelland. Click, clack, click, clack. 2B were walking down the steps with
Mr Wilson walking beside them. 2M stood up and Mr Wilson took us inside
to look at a photograph. Then he started talking about the picture of the
man in the photo, he was once a gardener at NECOM. The next room was
the performing room and we got to sit on the seats. Then the next room we
looked at some old uniform and clothing of the students who went to the
Teachers’ College. There were old lunchboxes. The last thing we looked at
was a stained glass window with a man and a scroll. It looked like lights everywhere. “Time to go,” said Mrs
McClelland and we went on the bus and back to school. It was a fun and interesting excursion.

Armidale Secondary College Open Evening
All future students and their families are invited to attend an Open Evening at
Armidale Secondary College. Come and chat to staff and students, visit our
classrooms and enjoy a BBQ while watching our Creative Arts students
perform. Our most recent plans for the new build will be available for viewing.
