Remember, legitimate telemarketers have nothing to hide
However, criminals will say anything to part you from your hard-earned money.
Be cautious. You have the right to check out any caller by requesting written information, a
call back number, references and time to think over the offer.
Legitimate business people will be happy to provide you with that information. After all, they
want the "bad guys" out of business too. Always be careful about providing confidential personal
information, especially banking or credit card details, unless you are certain the company is
legitimate. And, if you have doubts about a caller, your best defense is to simply hang up.
It's not rude – it's smart.
If you're in doubt, it's wise to ask the advice of a close friend or relative, or even your banker. Rely
on people you can trust.
Remember, you can Stop Phone Fraud - Just Hang Up!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Belvedere Community League is currently working with other groups to identify our options for course of action to ensure Area residents, businesses and the impacts to these groups are strongly considered before the project listed in the article below moves forward. B.C.L. is not against social housing or social resources, which is clear by the amount we already have in our area. This new proposal is also in complete contradiction to the vision and development plan that has been communicated to area residents and businesses over the past 12 years. We are however very concerned that we have already exceeded our tipping point when it comes to the large concentration levels of the same or similar housing in the area.
B.C.L. has continually worked with our government representatives at all levels, the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Police Service, Fort Rd. B.R.Z., area schools and school boards, to ensure the positive growth of our mature neighborhood. We believe this proposal will be detrimental to those efforts, and the future development of the area. Please watch for our upcoming newsletters for further information on this issue. Should you require any further information feel free to leave us a note/letter in the hall mailbox or email us at [email protected] and we will get back to you.

Permanent supportive housing planned for Fort Road's Station
Published on: September 27, 2016 Edmonton Journal - A new plan to put permanent supportive housing for the hard-to-house into Fort Road’s Station Pointe development got the OK Tuesday at City Hall. Coun. Ed Gibbons, who represents the area, had misgivings, worried social housing done poorly could turn the neighborhood around Belvedere LRT Station into another “undesirable” area like Abbottsfield.
“Ask the police, ask the social workers, ask everybody, (Abbottsfield) became an undesirable affordable area. That’s what we’ve got to be careful of,” Gibbons said, pointing to several other social housing projects near the proposed Station Pointe site. “I don’t want this to turn out the same as Abbottsfield.”
Abbottsfield is an east-end neighborhood made up of row housing and walk-up apartments where 80 per cent of the residents rent. The 2011 federal census found a high concentration of poverty, with 73 per cent of households earning less than $60,000 a year.
On Tuesday, executive committee voted to allow the sale of a 2.4-hectare plot of land to Homeward Trust for a mix of 42 units of supportive housing, along with 20 townhouses to be sold 15 per cent below market rate and 156 market-rate units in an 18-storey condo tower. After the land sale, Homeward Trust will consult with neighbors about what it intends to build and secure funding.
The Belvedere land is part of a major redevelopment effort along Fort Road dating to 2004 and earlier. The city bought out industrial land holders, cleaned up the site and offered five large lots for sale for high density residential.
Page 4 www.belvederecl.com Face book: Belvedere Community League FEB-MARCH 2017
So far, only one lot is being built on.
Gibbons said his community is comfortable with social housing, but there needs to be consultation and strong operating plans. He was frustrated neither Homeward Trust nor city administration told him this land sale was coming forward.
Susan McGee, executive director for Homeward Trust, said the supportive housing will be run similar to Ambrose Place, a facility in the core area with nursing and other support staff on-site. At that McCauley-area site, having a home and support allowed chronic alcoholics and drug addicts who live
there to cut emergency room use by more than half in the first year of operation.
“In (Station Pointe), we’ve set aside $1 million a year to ensure there are adequate supports on sites,” McGee said. She said the city has studied how social housing is concentrated across the city and didn’t identify this area as an issue.
Mayor Don Iveson said the project will avoid creating an over-concentration of poverty because it’s mixed income to begin with. Plus, the supportive housing portion will have the type of wraparound services needed to stabilize those with complex addictions and mental health challenges.
