Belgioioso or Belgiojoso is a town andcomune in the Province of Pavia, region ofLombardy (northern Italy), with a populationof 5,914 (2005).[1]

It is 12 km east of the city of Pavia, betweenthe Olona River and the Po River. Due to itsgeographical location, Belgioioso has becomeone of the southern suburbs of the city ofMilan.

Belgioioso is noted for its medieval castle, theseat of the Belgiojoso family. Francis I ofFrance was held there after the Battle ofPavia.
