Being Lost Means Finding

Adventures [open]

[SO HEY, I guess this is Theo's first appearance. How excitingo3o Come talk to her because she is friendly and awkward andhas no idea what's going on. And neither do I, for that matter!]

This...is not my classroom, Theodosia Sharpe thought dumbly. She could have smacked herself. Wow, Theo, what brilliant  piece of deductive reasoning will you come up with, next?  For wherever she was, it was obviously not a classroom. Itseemed to be... An alley? But...but I was just...how - She spunaround, expecting to see the hallway she had just come from.Instead, Theo found herself face-to-face with a brick wall. Itproved to be as solid as it looked when she attempted to walkback through it.I suppose it was a bit much to hope I'd transferred to Hogwartsby mistake, she thought, wincing. Still, this does seem to bethe perfect start to a new adventure, doesn't it? Turning backaround and taking several tentative steps towards the alley'sentrance, she was forced to ask herself, Okay, so I've ruled out Hogwarts. But then, what IS all this?

A town. She was in a town. One filled with people, no less. Notall of them human, and most of them in the company of adorable and/or dangerous-looking creatures. Oddly enough, this seemed to fascinate more than frighten her. Eyes wide andmouth agape, Theo stepped out into the town square."This is impossible," she breathed. "This is - it's...it's..." Shetook a moment to consider the appropriate word, thenexclaimed loudly, "This is FANTASTIC!"

[We are in the same boat. =3 No idea, but people told me topost and I am posting.]

"And what's so fantastic about it, exactly?" Salimity asked. She tried to keep the scorn out of her voice, and maybe shehad, but maybe she hadn't. She was i rritated at the moment.

She stared at the emerger-from-the-alley, gave her a one over, then pinned her as a new comer.

'I put my thinking cap on today, didn't I?'

Not like Sal wasn't a 'new comer' herself, but she had been herein this strange place a day. They called it the Planet, and people

dressed funny here. Belts, goggles, boots, vests - it was all sohistoric. And she felt compelled to assimilate into the Planet's

society in order not to stick out so much. Overall, Salimity

thought everything about the place was creepy, but there wasno magic to transport her back it seemed - or anyone else forthat matter - so she was stuck.

Not like that was a bad thing.

About the only bad thing at that instant was hunger. Buying

clothes to feel better resulted in her having no money tosurvive. No matter, a person could live without food for five

miserable days if they really wanted. She just needed to thinkabout getting more money.

And hanging out at the entrance of an alley certainly gave off

the wrong sort of vibe in getting money, but at least she looked

somewhat normal in this crazy land.

Crazy world. Not exactly fantastic in her books.

[Yaay, someone else new! xD I am excited.]

"And what's so fantastic about it, exactly?"

Theo jumped at the sudden voice, almost as if she had forgottenthat these wonderfully strange new people could see and hearher just as plainly as she could see and hear them.

She turned and eyed the stranger, not unaware that she wasbeing examined, herself. The girl was not much taller than she

was, and looked for all the world to be like any other human inthis strange place. The logical thing to do, in Theodosia's mind, was to find out as much as she could from her. As a torrent of questions poured out of her, she promptly forgot about the oneasked o f her.

"Where is this? How did I get here? I'm not dreaming, amI? How is this possible? What are all those differentcreatures with those people? Where did they get them?Where can  I  get one of them? Where can I get some newclothes? What about food? Where am I going to live? Myname's Theo - Theodosia Sharpe - who are you, anyway?"

With this last question, her ever-present grin widened and she

stuck out her hand expectantly for the other girl to shake.

Salimity closed her eyes for a second. A long second. It was asif she were blinking away the image of the girl in front of her,but when she opened her eyes the girl would still be in front of her, ever hopeful and way too excited to be away from normal.Salimity knew the girl would still be there - Theo did she sayher name was? - because when Salimity tried denying herexistence here on this backwater planet, her situation didn'tchange.

"Should have just kept my mouth shut," Sal muttered to

herself, opening her eyes once more. She stared at the offeredhand. "I'm not shaking that," she stated bluntly.

Her next reaction was to lie in order to answer Theo's questions, but Salimity corrected herself mentally. She didn't know enoughabout Isnit Weyrd to lie. And in a place this bizarre, a lie couldactually be a truth without her knowing it.

Salimity held her arms out away from her body, gesturingaround the street. "I'm your welcoming party I guess."'Really should have kept my mouth shut,'  "And welcome toIsnit. Or Weyrd. This place." Salimity tried to quick thinkthrough the list of questions thrown at her in such a short

amount of time with some difficulty.

"Unfortunately, you're not dreaming. And I don't knowanything about those things, except that they bond topeople who are worthy. Something like that at least. Idoubt either you or me are worthy of such a  gift  just yet. Istole these clothes. And I don't know where I'm going tolive just yet or where my next meal will come from. MaybeI'll get back to you when I take care of myself first,"Salimity replied, taking care to pronounce each word with slowcare. It was odd how she knew her language, but spoke this justas fluently.

And when Sal thought about everything weird on the planet, she

no longer wanted to think about it.

Frowning, Theo eyed her rejected hand wearily. I know I washed them today... she thought to herself. She shrugged it off, her

grin returning. This opportunities this world had to offer weremuch too exciting to let a little rudeness get her down.

"Welcoming party, huh? Neato!" she replied, apparently not

understanding the girl's sarcasm. To herself, she muttered,"Weird, huh? Definitely is weird...but a good weird. "

Oh, how she longed to pester the companions of the oddcreatures, to figure out where they came from, how to bondwith them - essentially, everything about them. But there were

more pressing matters at hand.

"Well...there must be jobs that need to be done aroundhere, right? So, why not go find some? I'm sure we'll be

rolling in money in no time!" Theo beamed. She was alreadybeginning to think of this girl as her friend, completely oblivious

to the fact that the other just wanted to be rid of her.

"Huh. I wish," Salimity said. "About the jobs." With a smirk

she continued, leaning back into the wall again. "But notargets to slot or things to kill." 'Minus these clothes,

naturally,' she thought to herself.

Theo seemed a little too interested in this world for her good."I just got here myself, so anything else you need, go find

someone else," Salimity gestured with her hand about them tothe others on the street. For the most part, they all seemed

oblivious to the two young women.

Silently, Salimity cursed them all. For her current situation andfor looking so damn happy about everything.

The girl's attitude was a mystery. For the life of her, Theocouldn't see any downside to this place. Of course, she'd

conveniently forgotten about the matter of her friends andfamily...

"Are you sure? We could...y'know, help each other out. Or

something. I'm sure we've both got marketable talents..."Her voice trailed off as she tried to think of a way to be useful

to this person.Okay, so, no job skills. What else could I do for a living? she

wondered.

And then it hit her. It was brilliant! Smiling slyly at the othergirl, Theo said, "Actually, I don't know about you, but I'm

going to be a treasure hunter!" She paused, waiting for the

heroic music in her head that accompanied this statement tofinish playing. "You're welcome to join me, y'know.

Interested?"

Oh God. This girl was crazy. Either that, or she really thought

little of her home life.

Sal wanted nothing more but to go home. She wanted to run inthe fields Lev had spoken so fondly of. Longed to stare up at a

clear sky that surrounded the niche where she belonged  like shehad when she was a child.

She wanted nothing more than to find her supposed father andgut him like the hog he was.

That wasn't going to happen now. Revenge would never begranted so long as she was stuck on this rock, with nothing to

do but go treasure hunting with the natives.

Reflexively Salimity's jaw clenched and unclenched. "I don'tthink you'd find much except for useless ship parts

maybe. Might run across a beastie or two. Might beexciting. Sal pried herself away from her street corner her

fingertips absent mindedly straying across her knife hilt as sheglanced up and down the street.

What else was there to do? No one really had need for a bounty

hunter on this planet. All Sal had done was a total of minortheft, a run around in the forest, and then standing on a street

corner watching people walk past.

'That's right. Get up and do something. Get distracted. That'sthe best thing for you to do now. Just don't ever forget his

name or face and you won't be betraying him.'

Salimity's jaw clenched and unclenched again, and her throattightened a bit.

With and quick spin on her heel she rounded upon Theo.

"Where will be traipse around then? There are forestssouth of here that I got lost in and this whole town to

wander about. I'll leave it up to you. In fact, I'll be yourbody guard," Salimity said, some part of her groaning and

dying, not believing that any of this was happening.

Best to distance herself now than deal with it later if she evergot home.

"Body guard...?" Theo repeated stupidly, not quite sure she

had heard the girl right.

Why the about-face? she wondered, though the answer didn'treally matter much to her. Caution be damned; the temptation

of having someone else along to share her adventures with was

too great to resist. Still, might want to keep an eye onher...just in case.

Not letting any of her doubts show, Theo said cheerily, "Whatan excellent idea! So, bodyguard - what did you say your

name was? - let's take a look at those forests. What agreat place for things to happen! Why, when I was little, I

once spent a whole day up in the trees tryin'a find wherethe magpies kept their treasure. And I did, too! Mum and

dad said -"

She paused briefly, a frown flickering across her face so quicklyit was hardly noticeable. "Well, they said I should'a let the

poor birds keep it," she finished sheepishly.

I wonder if they know I'm okay...

[[Bleh, sorry for the crappy short posts and whatnot. I'm stillplaying catch-up with the art contest, see, and it's kinda eating

up all my time and energy. I would've waited til it was all doneand out of the way, but I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten

about you ^_^]]

Salimity was so keen on trying to make herself seem happy thatshe missed Theo's brief lapse of face. Even if she had beenpaying attention, she would most likely have assumed theexpression to be happenstance and ordinary with no meaningbehind it at all.

"Salimity," she replied, slowly the syllables and letting thevowels roll off her tongue. "And yes, you'll be needing abody guard of sorts around these parts, unless you knowanything about fighting."

'Maybe she doesn't doubt the safety of having one, but thesafety of having you around. Because when people hear body guard they immediately think Salimity, right?'

"Which I doubt. I can tell you that you've landed in theTown Square and from what I've been told what hashappened to you has happened to the majority of thepeople here. They get transported from their world to this

one with no hope of getting back." Salimity nodded as if tocement the deal. That's right, no going back, but there alwaysremained hope.
